Meow Page 16

by Skye MacKinnon

“I’m not quite sure how to say this, Kat,” Lily begins, staring out towards the sunset. “You know how I tested Ryker’s blood?”

I nod. “Is something wrong with him? Is he sick?”

“No, not exactly. He’s… well, he’s not a cat.”

I can’t help but laugh. “Are you drunk? I reassure you, he most definitely is a cat. You’ve seen him. Four legs, shiny fur, whiskers, an arrogant frown. He’s a cat. No doubt about that.”

“He’s not just a cat,” Lily blurts. “He’s a shifter. Ryker is a shifter.”

  ~ The End ~

Meow! I hope you enjoyed this book! If you did, please leave a review and tell others about Meow. The more readers she has, the more Kat will purr.

The story continues in Scratch, where we’ll find out more about the Fangs and about Kat’s new companions. And yes, Ryker really isn’t just a cat.

  Author’s Note

  Meooooow, amazing reader!

Thank you so much for reading Meow. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever written before, which is exactly why it’s been so much fun to write. I love cats, always have, and yes, I secretly believe that they’re all assassins. They’re just very good at hiding it.

I don’t have cats at the moment, but I do have two bunnies, Darwin and Emma, who do behave like cats a lot: no respect for their humans, always hungry, cuddles only on their terms (usually they want them when I’m busy, and don’t want to be touched when I have the time), able to break into places they shouldn’t be (Emma, I’m looking at you), with the self-confidence of a deity.

So even though they’re not cats, they did inspire the felines in this book a lot. I’ve been wanting to get a cat again, but Emma would probably eat it, so for now, I’m sticking with bunnies. Who knows, maybe I’ll have to write a bunny shifter book one day. Would anyone actually read that?

Anyway, I would like to thank everyone who’s been involved in this book. The readers in my Facebook group who posted pictures of their cats for inspiration (a lot of the cat names in this book are based on those cats). My PA Rachel, whose cat Lily bribed her way into Meow as a character. My street team and beta readers, who always make sure my books don’t have gaping plot holes or cats who suddenly change names (true story). Gina, who made this book look pretty from the inside, and Ravenborn Covers, who made it amazing on the outside. My Flock author family – Arizona, Kelly and Laura – who’ve not complained even once about me constantly posting Meow snippets in our group chat. All the other authors who keep inspiring me. And my real family, for slowly understanding that I’m not quite myself when I have a deadline.

If you need more books to add to your reading stack, flick forward and take a look at my massive book list. No idea where they all came from. Books just seem to happen. And do stalk me on social media, I always love hearing from you.

  Lots of love,

  Skye

  About the Author

Skye MacKinnon is a USA Today Bestselling Author with a slight obsession with bunnies, dried mango and Scotland. And when she says slight... her friends are trying to find ways to trick her into not having a book set in Scotland.

Whether it's set in space (Scottish space, obviously), fantasy worlds (Scottish fantasy worlds, obviously), or Scotland, Skye's tales are full of magic, romance and adventure. Oh, and unicorns. There are a few demons, too.
