Danielle’s face looked apprehensive, and she took Kyleigh Rose from Nana. “I’m having second thoughts about whether it’s a good idea for us to be away from her overnight.”

Kyle’s sister Samantha moved in to pat Danielle’s forearm. “You just nursed Kyleigh Rose right before the ceremony, and you’ve stored more than enough breast milk to get her through the night and tomorrow morning, Danielle. If there’s the slightest problem—and there won’t be—we’ll call you right away. Now, you two go and enjoy yourselves.”

His dad nodded vigorously in agreement. “Besides me acting like the proudest grandfather on earth, you have a great-grandmother, a grandmother, an RN, and a pediatrician to help take care of your baby for about sixteen hours. I think they can handle a couple of feedings and diaper changes. The only problem will be when little Kyleigh Rose overdoses on all the hugs and kisses.”

Danielle let out a long exhale. “Okay, you convinced me. But I’m sure going to miss her, even if it’s just overnight.” She placed a kiss on her baby’s forehead and slowly handed her back to Nana Rose.

After a few more minutes of hugs and good wishes, the couple made their way to Kyle’s SUV, parked in front of his parents’ new vacation home. As they clicked their seat belts in place, he said, “I guess this will be a little different from our honeymoon night in Las Vegas.”

  “Different, but still very special.”

Kyle started the engine, and when he glanced over at Danielle, he couldn’t help thinking about the last time she’d been in this vehicle wearing the very same lace dress. She returned his gaze, and her expression let Kyle know that they were thinking about the exact same thing.

She smiled and sent him a flirtatious wink. “Let’s go. I want to start building more memories right away.”

Then, before they drove to their second honeymoon retreat, she leaned over and kissed him. Kyle swore his heart was overflowing with gratitude for the love and joy they’d both found.

I never want to forget this. And I’ll make sure that she always remembers it too.
