Addi pulled out a chair and took a seat next to Sam. “So how’s Dupree Farms?” she asked, her eyes falling to all the paperwork. Sam was well known around the horse circuit now days for the best Thoroughbreds money could buy anywhere.
“We’re doing good.” Sam sighed as she closed a ledger. “Got a horse sale coming up next month that should bring in some high rollers.”
“And how is Caesar’s Empire?” Addison asked about her favorite colt from last year. With a chocolate coat, golden mane and tail, he was a looker, and she hoped he would live up to his name. Addi had begged Sam to match up her favorite mare, Forever Aflame, with the right stud. Sam had her own foal she had overseen; they were always competitive in their marriage.
“I think that he’s ready for breaking. I was planning on doing it next week, but if you want, we can do it while you’re here,” Sam replied, leaning back in her chair and stretching out her back.
“Good, I know he’s a little head-strong but that’s his Sire. Aflame is a great dame, so let’s hope that her temper evens out his.” Addison stood up to stand behind Sam slowly rubbing her shoulders. “And Khan? How is that monster?”
Leaning her head forward to give the redhead better access to her shoulders and neck, Sam moaned. “He’s being difficult as usual. I have to keep him and Turbo in separate pastures. They are always trying to bite each other.”
“Has he been broken in yet? Or can he still barely stand a halter?” Addison asked as her thumbs found a knot in Sam’s neck. She carefully rubbed it out with slow circles. “I can help with the horses.”
“We finally got him to take a halter, but haven’t broke him yet. I know you can, but I figured that since you were home, you shouldn’t be working. Spend the time with Duke and your family,” the blonde answered.
Addison knew Sam was right, but she had always been a working woman, even in her teens. “I know, baby.” Addison kissed the back of Sam’s head. “Just let me know if you need a hand, we still make a good team.”
Leaning her head back so that she could stare up into her wife’s eyes, Sam murmured, “Do you really want to be talking about horses right now? Isn’t there something else you would rather be doing?”
“I can hear the hayloft calling our names,” Addison husked with a wink.
Standing up, Sam held out her hand and they made their way to the hayloft. The older woman grabbed a couple of blankets that she kept in storage and followed her wife up the ladder. “Great view from here.”
“I bet.” Addison looked over her shoulder as she climbed up the last step and onto the wooden floor of the loft. Taking in a deep breath of the barn below and the hay around them, she flew mentally back in time. “Remember the last time we were up here?”
“Yeah, you seduced me and told me that you were carrying our son?” Sam tossed the blankets on the hay and pulled her wife against her. “Was one of the happiest days in my life.”
Addison pulled Sam’s head down for a steamy kiss. “I remember it well,” she whispered before shoving Sam into the hay and straddling her waist.
Reaching up, Sam pushed her hands underneath the sweater the redhead was wearing. “I do too and you are way over-dressed right now.”
“Tell me about it,” Addison groaned as she unbuttoned Sam’s denim shirt in a hurry. It soon joined her sweater on the floor at Addison’s feet as the redhead focused on Sam’s bra which she pushed off a moment later.
Sam sat up as she pushed aside Addison’s hands so that she could suckle the breast that was calling out her name. Her left hand teased the other while her right hand held the younger woman in place.
“God, I missed you Sammie,” Addi whispered into blonde hair as she cradled her wife’s head close to her chest. Her own eyes closed as her head fell back.
“I missed you too and there’s something I want to talk to you about, too.” The older woman pulled away before she got too lost in the moment.
The redhead ran a hand through blonde hair with a smile as she stared down into green eyes. “I’m all ears at this point.” She grinned, leaving her shirt hanging open and her breasts exposed to her wife’s eyes.
“I want to have another baby,” Sam blurted out.
“Are...really?” Addison asked, breathless with excitement.
Sam smiled up at her wife, her own eyes sparkling. “Yeah, I want Duke to grow up with a little brother or sister and I want to be the one to carry our child this time. I’m not getting any younger and Doc Jones says I’m as ready as I’ll ever be.”
“You want to carry it too?” Addi’s eyes got even wider with surprise, but she was happy at this news. She crushed her lips to Sam’s, just living in the moment. “Then who’s going to train the horses? I won’t let you be nine months pregnant with our child out in a pasture in the freezing cold.”
“I can still train, and will hire more help if needed, but I was hoping that I could talk you into it.” The blonde grinned.
“We will see about that.” The driver kissed Sam’s nose before leaning back to look down at her. “I have something I want to talk about with you as well.” When she saw Sam’s open face, Addi caved completely. “This was my last year driving. We need to find someone to replace me.”
“Really...you’ll think about training with me?” Sam reached up to caress her wife’s cheek. “We’re always getting offers to sell the team and I really want to concentrate on something that is ours. Something that we built for our family.”
“You really want to sell off your father’s company, Sam? Think of all it meant to him, it’s how we met.” Addison sounded a little wary of the idea, but she kissed Sam’s knuckles with a smile. “I’ll think about being your exercise rider.”
“We have done everything Daddy ever wanted us to do, but he would be the first to tell me to make my own mark on this world,” the older woman admitted. “We don’t have to sell the company; just the racing team, but we can do anything we want, Addi...let’s try this and if it isn’t what we want, we’ll try something else, but I want us to be a family. I want that more than anything.”
“We’ll come back to selling it, but I do want us to build something together. As a family,” Addison whispered softly against Sam’s lips as she laid her back.
“Here’s to building...” Sam murmured as she slipped her hands along Addi’s strong back to make her way down to her toned ass.
For the rest of the afternoon and later on into the night, they worked on building something that their family could be proud of and would last for generations.
