My eyes snagged on Jude talking to the journalist and my breath hitched. ‘Yeah.’
Jude ducked as I tossed the paper towards her head and plopped down beside her on the sofa.
‘If I wanted to be on the front of the evening paper snogging my girlfriend, I’d go on reality telly,’ I pointed out.
She grinned, picking it up and grimacing at the picture. ‘At least you don’t have blood running down your nose. What does the article say?’
‘Nothing specific, all smoke and mirrors.’
‘It’ll have to be for now, I suppose. But Knight can’t keep that plane journey a secret, we’ve got him on that. It’s not enough but . . .’
As she trailed off, I slipped the paper out of her hands. ‘It’s something. Come here.’
Her breathing quickened as I beckoned her into my arms. It took a few moments to accommodate my leg, but we’d quickly adopted a few positions that were intimate yet comfortable. I pressed a kiss to her hair while she toyed with the hem of my shirt.
‘I did it again, didn’t I?’ she questioned eventually.
My focus was on her fingertips grazing my skin. ‘Did what?’
‘Pushed you into something without asking first. Out there, I just wanted to show everyone that I love you. It wasn’t only my choice, I’m sorry.’
‘I’m not,’ I replied, tangling her fingers in mine and waiting until she blinked up at me. ‘It was right, darling. You weren’t being selfish, it about us. I didn’t kiss Gemma in public for two years, let alone plaster myself on the front of the newspaper with her. I mean, it’s not something I’ve ever wanted to do, but it beats the last headlines about me. Just don’t sell the film rights, okay? I’d rather that was kept between the two of us.’
Her gravelly chuckle ran straight through me and struck home in the pit of my stomach. I tilted her chin to mine and drew her into a kiss that teased at more. She rocked against my leg then let out a moan when I finally allowed us access to what we both wanted. Not for the first time in the last month, when we came, we came together.
