Chapter 40
After sending the message Kol and the others found Floggen drinking in the tavern and making friends the way he knows how. When they walked in he was standing on the table daring anybody to come close and try to take him on as he swung a stool back and forth. As they entered Kol figured it was best to calm down the situation before Floggen got into full scolding mode.
“We better stop him before he gets all worked up.” Kol states heading towards the captain.
“I like when the little guy gets worked up, besides he could use a little sense knocked into that thick skull of his.” Hallthor grunts sitting at another table close by.
“I’ll take care of it Kol, I think you’ve done enough for one day fending off our idiocy and defeating a god in the most stylish of ways.” Sighs Curios still upset about what happened.
Kol almost calls out to him but thinks better of it instead sitting at the table with Hallthor who’s just staring into his drink.
“Hey, you okay?”
“No I’m really not. We were supposed to help you on these quests not hinder you by going crazy.”
“It wasn’t your fault; nobody could have resisted his power.” Kol reassures.
“You did.”
“We don’t know that. For all we know Od allowed me to not be affected so he could toy with me.”
“So you survived.” Floggen says interrupting as he sits at the table. “That’s great.”
“You owe us some answers Floggen, the voice you spoke of came to me and said not to be hard on you for lying to us. I was told it was necessary to help us. That being said I want you to know that all of us decided that we trust you completely and whatever else you may be you are our friend first and foremost.” Scowls Kol a bit.
“Kol, I never wanted to lie to any of you and as much as it pains me I cannot tell you who I truly am yet. Just know that I am here to help you and Vasos if I can, I will protect you all to the best of my abilities.” He answers.
“I just have to say something, I failed out there today Kol. I failed you and Hallthor and I failed myself. That will never happen again, I promise.” Declares Curios.
“The same goes for me.” Hallthor says slamming his mug on the table.
Kol smiles at both of them. “You are both too hard on yourselves, but I understand what you are feeling and I pledge the same to you because I failed you both as well.”
They all cheer before looking at Floggen expecting him to pledge as well.
“Don’t look at me I didn’t fail anybody.” He laughs.
“Sure you did, you didn’t meet the height requirement to be on a grown up quest.” Hallthor hoots smacking him on the back.
Floggen glares at Hallthor for a moment before allowing their laughing to infect him.
“What do you say squirt gun? Do I make the cut or am I too short like Hallthor says?” Questions Floggen.
“You are the perfect height Floggen, just tall enough for me to set my mug on your head so I don’t have to lean over and pick it up.” Answers Curios with a wink.
“And you Kol?”
“I’m tall enough to journey on all of the rides.” Laughs Kol.
“I’m sure you are.” A familiar voice chimes in from behind them.
Kol turns to see Hypatia walking up to the table drawing everyone’s attention.
“It’s been a spell has it not brave demigod?” She asks sweetly sitting down next to him.
“A lifetime too long.” He winks with a bow. “Gentlemen allow me to introduce Hypatia, daughter of Zeus and Hera, goddess of light, the sky and creativity.”
Each of them bow quickly.
“What causes you to grace us my lady?” Hallthor inquires while blushing.
“Marry me, I’m yours.” Curios blurts out before she can answer instantly regretting his lack of control as he changes colors.
“How extremely cute.” Laughs Hypatia. “I come to visit with Kol of course. I was curious about how he was doing.”
“I’m doing much better now that I’ve been graced with your presence my lady.”
“I am glad, so I have heard that your next quest will take you to Asgard. Not planning on replacing me while you are there?”
“I could never replace you.” He answers happily.
“Have you decided how you shall get to Asgard?” Questions Hypatia.
“The ship will take us there.” Floggen blurts out. “I mean…I assume that it will.”
“Normally the ship might, but right now the rainbow bridge is closed. Odin and Zeus have both closed the demigod routes into our homes no one is sure why exactly. As such the ship will take you to the entrance to Asgard but you will have to convince Heimdall that you are worthy to enter and not a danger to the realm.”
“Just what we need the body guard of the gods wanting us to prove ourselves, haven’t we done enough yet?” Complains Hallthor.
“No one would question your deeds or bravery young demigod but I’m sure you can understand anyone who is meant to protect the gods being a little suspicious of everyone.” Hypatia reasons.
“I guess.” Mutters Hallthor.
“We will do whatever is necessary to gain entrance to Asgard and complete our quest my lady.” Kol assures.
“I’m sure you will Kol, you don’t disappoint. Farewell my brave demigod.” She says kissing him on the cheek and then disappearing.
“It’ll never workout kid.” Floggen grunts waking Kol from his day dream.
“Why?” He demands.
“She’s Greek and you’re Norse, it is forbidden by the gods for you to be together.” He states matter-of-factly.
“Man tough break buddy.” Curios says polishing off his drink.
“I’m great at following the rules when my heart is concerned.” Kol mutters thinking about the law.
“How about when your butt is on the line?” Floggen snaps eyeing him. “Because that is exactly what is at stake here if you pursue that girl.”
“We’ll see.” He snaps back.
Interfering in the conversation is the golden bird flying into the bar and landing on the table in front of Kol.
“Saved by the bird.” Kol eyes Floggen. “Let’s see what Vasos has to say.”
Pressing the button they all listen hoping to hear good news, thankfully they’re not disappointed the longer they listen the happier they become hearing that their friends are alive and well and on the way to the second quest.
“So the same thing happened to Vasos that happened to me, but the voice didn’t speak to him that’s interesting. I wonder what has been hidden from the two of us.” Kol ponders.
“Maybe you’re both just finally coming in to your powers completely?” Curios asks hopefully.
“Maybe.”
“What are you going to send back?” Questions Floggen changing the subject.
“I’ll tell him what we’ve learned.” He answers.
“You could tell him that the armor he seeks is on the island of the sirens and unfortunately for him that particular island is where all the monsters appear when they return from Tartarus.” Floggen shakes his head gloomily.
Pressing the button with a frown. “Hey there Vasos, so it was good to hear that all of you are doing well, at present were sitting in a tavern discussing what we’re going to do to get into Asgard. Apparently before we can even get there Heimdall is going to test us in some way to allow us entrance into Asgard, we don’t know what the test will be but I’m sure we’ll pass it so tell Sevrrir that he better hurry or we’ll end up finishing the quests before you. On that note in the spirit of things the losers have to buy the winners drinks for a week! I have some good news and some bad news, the good news is that we know where you can find the armor; it’s located on the island of the sirens. The bad news is that siren island is where all the monsters appear when they escape from Tartarus. I wish we were there to fight by your side my friend be careful and let us know that you are okay.” He finishes.
“We need to get our quest d
one so we could help them if they need.” Curios says.
“We’ll get it done as quickly as possible.” Hallthor says.
“So let’s head out now.” Kol suggests.
“Yes, why don’t we head to the gates of Asgard and get some kind of challenge from one of the toughest gods there is after we’ve all been drinking.” Floggen says mockingly.
“Ok, we drink tonight and head out first thing in the morning.” Kol sighs.
“Yeah better that we fight with a hangover instead.” Laughs Curios.
“To the quest!” Hallthor cheers with all of them joining in.
