Zombie Fallout (Book 13): The Perfect Betrayal Page 33

  Epilogue

“Ah, a pet,” Dewey said as he stared into the adjoining cell.

“Help me!” Springer screamed. The thought blistered around the entirety of his infected brain, though no sound crossed his vocal cords.

“Kill it?” the virus within Springer asked.

“That would do us all a great disservice. No, you will allow him to be. We will use him to our advantage.”

The virus within Springer did not like the idea of the invader being able to stay within the body it now controlled, but it would do as it was told.

“Help me!” Springer cried out again. He’d never felt more panic in his entire life as he struggled to move arms that would not respond; to speak with a mouth that would not respond. He thought he’d gone insane the first time he’d been fed. He’d watched in ghastly horror as the being that controlled him ate with a savage fury, ripping through the carcass of what had once been a person. He could sense the unrelenting hunger in the beast and the instant satisfaction as the still warm meat slid down his gullet. He’d attempted to retreat to some distant corner of his mind, but all exits had been cleverly cut off. He could not escape this prison.

Dewey laughed, though the sound was something more like that of a machinegun mowing down orphans in the middle of the night. It was an evil and cruel thing.

  Author’s Note

I realize this is something I should have talked about in the previous book, but, well, much like Mike, I’m not great at planning ahead. I want to thank Garon Whited of the Nightlord series for reaching out and requesting that we do some cameo work within each other’s books. It was amazing to see the attention to detail he put into his work. So, thank you, my friend!

As for this latest novel, which I desperately wanted to call Zombie Fallout Twelve and Seven Eighths because, as a Boston Sports fan, I’m prone to superstition. As you can see, I’m already setting up for the next installment. When will it end? I don’t know. All I can promise is that when that day comes, I will give it an honest to goodness conclusion and not one of those fade to black, figure it out on your own ones. Until then…I hope you enjoyed the latest!
