asked.

“Well, the school’s arranged for a special bus to pick everyone up from school, and bring them here for the 1980s night. I can’t wait for it,” Danny said.

“Really?” Mandy asked, face beaming with delight at this discovery.

“Yeah, looks like it’s meant to be, and we’ll be going to this together,” Danny said, his voice low, and eyes hungrily viewing Mandy.

Mandy froze after hearing this, her eyes wide with wonder.

“You want to take me? You’ve only known me for a few minutes… You could choose from anyone of the…” Mandy implored, but Danny placed two fingers on her lips, immediately hushing her.

“I know everything I need to know about you, and, I don’t want any of them…I want to take you, and only you,” he said, his voice almost a whisper. Mandy could see the subtle glints of green in his eyes, and was enraptured by his presence. The lights in the skating rink dimmed slightly, and Danny slowly took her in his embrace, and she submitted to him without a qualm. Mandy was so comfortable in his arms, and the chill she nursed in her heart was suddenly provided a warmth which it previously did not possess. He gradually released himself from their clinch, and looked at her. Danny stroked her hair with a sensuality that awed Mandy, and kept her transfixed. It was as if the whole world had disappeared, and it just the two of them there. The lights in the skating rink dimmed further, and Danny cupped her face in his hands, and watched her, his eyes flickering in the low light.

“Has anyone told you how beautiful you are?” he said, brushing his hand on her cheek.

“No,” Mandy gulped, her heart pounding so much she thought she would faint. Mandy shyly looked away from Danny’s consuming glare, but he continued to watch her.

“Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, because you’re beautiful both inside, and out,” Danny said, leaving Mandy spellbound. His face moved nearer to hers, and she closed her eyes. She still could not believe that all of this was happening to her, and that the guy she admired from afar for so many weeks was…now…going…to…kiss…her. Mandy prepared herself for Danny’s approach, and took a little breath. They were about to kiss when the lights in the room turned back on, to Mandy’s disappointment. Danny laughed lightly at this, and said, very softly, “Until next time, and there will be a next time…I’ll see you again Mandy.” Danny gradually walked away from her, and left Mandy in a state of sheer astonishment.

She never expected this to happen, and could not quite comprehend how it all occurred. Mandy found a spare seat as she thought she would collapse from everything that had happened, and remained alone for a few minutes, rehashing the events of the day in her mind. She felt that things had happened too quickly today, but, what did happen was very pleasurable, and not at all objectionable.

She checked her watch, and saw it was now time to leave the skating rink. Mandy proceeded to the desk to retrieve her shoes, and then removed her skates, handing these back to the assistant. Mandy noticed that some girls were watching her with jealousy and skepticism, but brushed this off, knowing the reason why. She also saw some other girls who viewed her in a much more positive light, and it seemed they were enthralled that she was in this position with Danny. Mandy also happened to glimpse the same boys who had teased her earlier, but gave them a look of supreme self-satisfaction, which left them embarrassed at their earlier behavior. With this, Mandy exited the skating rink and boarded the bus, which was being managed by the same teacher, who smiled at her as she entered.

Mandy was more confident than when she first came to the skating rink today, and a sense of happiness was building in her that she knew was very real. She found a seat near the front of the bus, as she wanted to exit quickly once she reached school, to be left alone. She saw Danny enter the bus soon thereafter, and their eyes connected. He sat alongside her in the opposite aisle with one of his friends, his eyes glued upon her. Mandy smiled at him, and he did the same in return. After a little while, Danny looked away from her, and began talking with one of his friends. Mandy turned away, and sat back in her seat.

She was looking forward to this new chapter in her life, and meeting Danny today was a turning point for her. Mandy could not wait for the 1980s skating night to roll around, and the fact that Danny wanted her as his date would make life at school from now on something to look forward to, and not dread. The students had now all assumed their seats on the bus, and, before long, it was off and running. Mandy looked out the bus window, and watched the skating rink building with much longing as it disappeared into the late afternoon, knowing that the next time she would visit would be the time of her life.
