Forever Devotion (Forever Safe Romance Series Book 10)

If only he knew how funny I felt this moment was. As we finished, I felt like it was still staring at me, so unintentionally, I stared back, and I watched as it started to harden.
"Did you know, that if you stare like that at a man's dick for too long, you might get fucked?"
"Oh, really?" I inquired. "I don't think you can take any more of this," I teased, sliding up next to him, walking my fingers up his bicep seductively.
"You're right, but I don't think you can either," he countered.
He was correct. I was so sore, I was sure that I'd be out of commission for at least a week with a swollen, tender pussy.
“How about a spa day for you in the comfort of our home, Princess? We can start with a nice bubble bath for two, a massage on the bed, and we can cuddle.” He spoke with eagerness.
“That does sound, rather lovely but what would you get out of it?”
Picking up both of our empty plates, he walked to the door. “I would get the chance to touch you as much as I like, that’s what I would get.”
I couldn’t disagree with that. The man knew how to make a woman smile, and I was well pleased with how everything was going.
“Come on, Princess!” David yelled from the other room. “I’ve got the bath ready!”
Grinning from ear to ear, I jumped up off the bed and ran out of the room toward my heart.

Jamie
Having spent the weekend at my new place, next to David’s side, it was finally time to go back to living in the real world, Monday had come too fast for my liking. I had a job I had to get to and classes to attend throughout the day. First, I had the morning shift at the cafe.
It would have been golden if I was ready to leave his side.
I pulled my car into a parking spot near the back of the shop. Picking up my cell phone for what seemed to be like the one hundredth time in ten minutes, I placed it inside my center console; after texting David to let him know that I had arrived safely.
I'd see him later, no biggie. That is what I told myself, anyway. I missed the man already and I'd only been gone fifteen minutes. I had a three-hour shift, which hopefully, for my sake anyway, would go by fast.
I locked my car behind me after I got out leaving my phone and bag inside so I wouldn’t be tempted to check it every few minutes. I never thought one person could become my whole world over night. Would I change it? Nope.
Joining the other two ladies at the front, I smiled to myself.
“What are you smiling about?” Jade, one of the other cafe employees asked me.
I’d never taken the time to get to know the other women. Sure, I worked with them daily, and I knew their names, but I was the ‘quiet’ one. I only spoke when I really had to, or if I needed something. This had been a job to me in the beginning and nothing more. Her sudden questioning had me wondering if I should have taken the time to get to know them. Was she being sarcastic, or did she really want to know?
“I’m sorry,” I replied. “I’m just having a good day.”
“Well, I can see that,” Jade said. “It’s a boy, isn’t it?” She winked.
I sighed. Yup, it sure was a boy.
Jade was a bubbly girl, but today she seemed overly grouchy. They called her the gamer, a local from town. She had blonde hair with blue tips that she changed every month, bright blue eyes, and a few tattoos hidden under her sleeves.
“Yeah, but he’s more than just a boy. He’s —”
“Let me guess, you’re in love? He is something else? Special?” She shrugged, brushing it off like it was nothing.
"What do you mean by that? It’s true though, he is something special,” I said loudly.
“Don’t listen to Jade,” Sandy spoke up... “She’s just jealous she hasn’t found her man yet.” Sandy laughed. Ah, Sandy. She was an older lady, with salt and pepper hair. I didn’t know her age, but I remember her mentioning once that she was in her late forties or early fifties. She owned the cafe, but often worked the front with her employees.
I knew from the look in her eyes that she loved running this small coffee shop, and nothing would get in her way. This was her pride and joy. It was one of the reasons I loved working here. She didn't press me for anything, she was kind, and the atmosphere was always pleasant.
Jade snorted. “I’m not jealous, I’ll let you know that I did find someone. I’m just tired, this is my last day on the job and I have to move tomorrow, across the country mind you.”
“Oh, really? Let me guess, gamer girl, he’s from one of your online worlds?” Sandy teased. “You young kids need to get out more, find someone local, like in the old days before everything was about phones and video games. That's how I met my husband. He was a local that came into this very cafe when my father owned it before me. Long distance relationships never work.”
Sandy patted my shoulder as she passed me, going up to the cash register to take a customer’s order. I started to make the sandwich while Jade made the coffees.
“So… What do you think makes him ‘special’? If I was asking for a friend.” Jade dragged out the last word.
I clicked my tongue against my teeth. There were lots of things that he did that made me happy. Then again, those things never meant as much to me as his time, or the fact he wanted to be with me.
“He loves me for me, that’s what makes him unique…”
My hands lingered over the package before I handed it over to the man on the other side of the counter.
“Love is a huge word.”
It was. “I know.”
“Have you both said it yet?”
“Yeah.”
Our conversation ended after that. It was as if each of us had our own personal feelings that kept us preoccupied.
The rest of my day basically went the same. I left work, arriving on time for all my classes. I sat through them all daydreaming about the future. At the end of my last class, I left wondering where the heck the day had gone. I’d gone a whole day, not really bothering to pay attention. I’ll just have to catch up tomorrow.
Bouncing down the last step, I jogged to the parking lot, skipping by other students as they went along with the rest of their day.
It was like the end to a fairy tale; I could swear I heard the birds singing and I was possibly seeing everything in a whole new light. A car horn honked at me as I toed the floor mat on the driver’s side of my car.
“Hey, Princess!”
I squealed, looking in the rearview mirror at what could only be my prince charming, David.
“Hey!” I waved my hand at him like some overly enthusiastic crazy lady as I rolled down my window the rest of the way. “What are you doing here,” I called out.
“I just got off work.”
“I missed you.”
Parking his car, he got out, coming over to my driver’s side window.
“And I missed you,” he kissed me.
“I love you,” I ran a finger over his jawline.
“I love you too, Princess.”
I sighed into another kiss he placed on my lips. Pulling away, I laid my head contently on the headrest.
“Would you like me to go grab some dinner?”
I swooned in my seat. “Hell, yes!” Food and good company — the way to a woman's heart was through her stomach after all.
He walked back to his car. “What would you like?”
That was a good question. “I’m not sure, how about you decide this time?” David loved food as much as I did. He was a huge foodie, sometimes I found him taking pictures of his food on his phone to post online.
David got a puzzled look on his face, and his nose gave a cute little twitch. “I’ve never been asked that question before. Usually, other people decide.”
“Well, today is your lucky day,” I drawled. “You get to pick today!”
His face lit up. "How about, pizza and wings?"
"Does it come with wine?"
"And beer." He wiggled his eyebrows. "Meet me
at the house. I'll be back in twenty."
I blew him an air kiss as he backed out and took off down the road.
I watched as his car drive off; like a hawk eyeing its prey.
Tonight, I wouldn't only dine on food. I think tonight called for something more — wild and seductive.

One year later
Jamie
They say that with time you'll know where your heart belongs. For some that might be true. For me, I knew from day one where mine belonged. It had been forever devoted to him, my David. Often, I thought back to when I was in high school. Why hadn't I asked him on dates? Then I thought about the here and now. I read somewhere once that if you changed the past your future wouldn’t be the same.
I guess, how things have played out really weren't that bad. Yeah. I spent my days dreaming of him, but he'd done the same with me.
It was a devotion to the finest level.
When my parents asked me about how it was working out between us on the phone, I always said the same thing, 'True love does exist, you just have to face it head on.' I knew they were skeptical, that was fine. Not everyone believed in this stuff. I doubted it in the beginning, if I had to be honest with myself.
I blinked, then rubbed at the sides of my eyes. Day one down, the rest of summer vacation to go!
What could I say, after a year, I was now enjoying the long summer vacation, waiting to start my second semester of college in the Fall. David and I were great, in fact, we were the best we've ever been.
I shook my head, clearing my thoughts as I walked out of the coffee shop door. My shift was over for that day and David, he was waiting for me in a parked car right outside the shop. My own personal and by far the most striking chauffeur around town.
I waved as I headed over to his open window on the driver's side — handing over his black coffee as I leaned to give him a lingering kiss.
He followed my lips, "Hey, Princess, how was your shift? I missed you."
I drummed my fingers along the side of his door. "Oh, you know — same old same old, I made coffee, served a few sandwiches, and a couple donuts."
His eyes traveled down my body, "I've got a surprise for you, hop in."
"What is it? Is it another one of those ‘I won’t tell you surprises?"
He shook his head, "don't ask questions love, come on."
Jumping in the passenger side, I grabbed his hand, and we held on to each other as the car drove down the same winding, and twisting roads that he’d taken me down a year ago.
Down a dirt road, one that was carved into my mind. The wheat field.
"Wh-what was your surprise," I asked in wonder. Just being here excited me.
He didn't reply right away, instead got out and came around to my side, offering me his hand, "come find out."
Taking his hand, we walked together, down the same dirt path we had ran the first time, with the wind just as crisp.
"Okay. Stop." He slowly came up behind me, and covered my eyes with his hands. "Surprise, remember?"
"Ah, yes. The infamous surprise.” I smirked. “So, are you going to tell me what it is?”
His chest rumbled against my back. “Jamie… It’s a surprise, I’m not going to tell you just yet.”
My eyes rolled under his hands. What could he be hiding all the way out here in the middle of a wheat field?
My mind filled with different ideas and thoughts on what it could be. His hands left little room for me to see anything, well, at least I could still see my feet.
“Okay, we’re here.”
His hands lifted from my face, and I gasped. Set in the knee-high wheat was the same blanket we had first made love on, and an old-style picnic basket with a dozen red roses.
“David…” I started to voice, but couldn’t find the words to finish. “I don-don’t know what to say.”
“You don’t have to say anything, Princess. This is to celebrate us, on our first anniversary.”
His hand enfolded mine, taking me to the blanket; were he helped me find the perfect spot to sit and enjoy myself.
“Oh, David, this is wonderful.”
Sitting down next to me, his leg brushed mine. We smiled at each other dreamily.
“You’re wonderful, Jamie. I love you more than you will ever know.” His hand reached into his pocket, and just like that, the world around me slowed. My sight became a tunnel of vision completely focused on his hand.
“That’s why I bought you this.” His rough voice brought me back to the here and now.
“I’m sorry?”
His gaze locked with mine, David positioned himself in front of me. Opening the small silver box, he held it out for me to see. A ring, a simple, single stone, white gold diamond ring.
“You’re my world. This past year has been the most amazing journey, and I couldn’t picture doing it with anyone else. I want to spend forever with you, Jamie,” he whispered, his voice shaking. “I asked you to be mine not long ago, and I waited to be with only you. Will you marry me, forever?”
“Yes!” I said. My hand was shaking, hell my whole body was shaking. Tears ran down my cheeks as I took the small white gold, ring from the box and placed it on my ring finger. “David, yes!”
His mouth opened and closed like a fish. “Yes?”
I nodded, grinning from ear to ear, so big in fact my mouth was starting to hurt. Through the tears and overwhelming joy, I threw my arms around him and we held each other close.
“Are you sure?” David muttered into my hair. “I know I’m not perfect.”
I snorted. “But who is in this world? I am not perfect either.”
If he was worried about perfection, I was far from being the best. There had been some trial and errors during our year together.
A few of them had made us both laugh at times. Like the time I had done laundry, not knowing that he had thrown in a new navy shirt in with my whites, turning everything a blueish gray color. Or the time I had forgot about the pizza in the oven, having fell asleep on the couch after we had enjoyed ourselves together. Luckily, nothing had set on fire, but the smoke alarms had gone off.
“You’re thinking too hard, I can hear the wheels in your brain turning,” he joked.
I batted at his arm. “Stop that.”
“Stop what?” He kissed the side of my neck. “Stop you from over thinking my words?” He chuckled under his breath as he kissed down my neck to my collar bone. “I think you need a distraction.”
“I think you’re right. I do need one. God, I love you”
“I love you too, my future wife.”
Giving in to his lips, he laid me back onto the blanket. Every kiss was a brand laced to burn its mark on my soul. A passion that was marked by the universe, a love set in time that had waited for us to join. To become one. I couldn’t have thanked the world enough for giving David back to me.
Thinking about my good fortune made me pull him into me a little closer.
“Mine forever,” he murmured over my collar bone.
I shivered as heat shot through me. I was his forever, and he was mine. "A promise," I gasped out. "Forever devotion."
