Jack knew they were fucked. Muncie was prepared to let them burn. Or kill each other. Whichever came first. It didn’t seem to matter to him one way or the other. Jack clenched his hands into fists. He charged the door, jumping through the six foot flames between him and Muncie.
Muncie laughed outside the glass. Jack watched the soundless laughter, strings of spit attached between upper and lower teeth in Muncie’s mouth. Muncie kept his eyes on Jack the entire time. The eyes were black, filled with as much hatred as Jack felt in return. It was a stark contrast to the laughing expressed on his lower face.
Jack slammed his fist into the door. His breath fogged the window. His nose only separated from Muncie’s by a thin layer of reinforced, tempered glass.
“Muncie!” Jack screamed into the window. The guard on the other side laughed harder. When Jack shouted, the sound was so loud the rest of C-Pod stopped in place to watch him. The acrid smoke filled the pod and several men coughed.
“You fuck!” Jack screamed. His rage overflowed. Jack hyperventilated from the adrenaline surge and his frustration. He felt light-headed but not enough to distract him from staring through Muncie’s skull. It had been personal to begin with. Now it had gone to a stratospheric level. Jack made a commitment to never allow Muncie within his grasp again without doing him harm. He didn’t care if the guards beat him. He didn’t care if they tazed him or threw him in the hole for thirty days. He didn’t care if they killed him. Muncie had to pay for this. Blood would be shed.
As Jack slammed his knuckles into the locked door a few more times, Melvin instructed the inmates to extinguish the fires. He waved off the line of men along the corridor wall. Most of the men huddled behind Jack, trying to see what stared back at them through the pane of glass.
Muncie walked away, still laughing. Crawford stared back at Jack. His expression revealed a hint of sympathy. Maybe. Jack didn’t care. All that filled his vision was blood splashed along the walls and floors. Blood that belonged to one man. Blood that he wanted to bathe in. Muncie’s blood.
“MUNCIE!”

Inside the Hole
This series was born out of jealousy.
It’s a fact.
I swore up and down I would NEVER write a zombie story.
Then I learned about the Summer of Zombie Facebook Blog Tour. It was a month long event with about thirty authors of...you guessed it. Zombie fiction. Armand Rosamilia used to run the tour before handing the reins over to Jay Wilburn.
It was awesome!
I found out about all these great writers I previously knew nothing about. I read their stories and fell in love with the variety and originality. The fiction I read wasn’t the typical crap you see on television or in movies. (How about some originality once in awhile, Hollywood?) These authors were selected by Jay Wilburn BECAUSE they looked at the trope differently. And he did a wonderful job showcasing the talents of these fine authors.
That’s when I got jealous.
I wanted to be on the tour. I wanted Jay to make a video diary about my story and how it did something unique. I wanted to share more deeply with the Zombie Blog Tour community. Snatching up all the great books and posting comments on Facebook was only scratching the surface. I needed more. I wanted in.
So, I tried my hand at zombie fiction. And I had fun.
There are no deep-hidden meanings or high-brow themes in my story. The zombies are part of a viral outbreak quite similar to everyone else’s. My zombies are slow-moving and crave human flesh like everyone else’s. Until...
I’m not going to give away the plot or the over-arching story arc. But things will be different. It will be up to you, the reader, to decide if my story is worthy of being considered different. All I wish to do is entertain my readers and give them something fresh to read.
Oh, and to be considered for the next Summer of Zombie Blog Tour. So, how about it, Jay?
If you can’t wait until summer, like me, then make sure you check out the Winter of Zombie Blog Tour on Facebook. The line-up of authors is great once again. Why watch zany episodes of The Walking Dead when you can immerse yourself in the tales of zombies these authors have created?
One more time, Jay, please, please, please consider me for the Summer of Zombie Blog Tour. I am shameless. So what.
