“That’s not what I’m talking about though, Eliana.” He grabs my arms gently and the urgency in his face holds my eyes. “I can’t live without you. I’ve tried. The sun has no color, the air has no taste. The water is nothing but a hollow, empty void without you.” He kisses me softly. “Without you, there is no joy in my world.”
“Oh, Tsunis.” I kiss him gently. “I found the exact same thing. I had all these wonderful luxuries around me, but I couldn’t enjoy them. They meant nothing to me. All I wanted was you.”
He sits up and we come together again, kissing around our smiles.
“I know it took some time, but I even love this planet.” I grin at him while I turn my eyes up to the thatched roof. “I can’t wait to go swimming with you. How long until the bay is ready?”
“Very soon.” He cups my cheek. “I want to go swimming with you too.”
“I know I went back to the EAO because I felt I deserved more. I worked hard my whole life and I deserved a reward, but I didn’t know what it meant to have someone in my life. I’m sorry, Tsunis. I shouldn’t have gone. The dream meant nothing without you.”
He strokes my cheek, eyes big and soft.
“Don’t ever apologize. You are so much more than I thought you were when we met. You need your job and your skills, otherwise, you aren’t you. I’ll support you, anywhere you want to go, anything you want to do.”
My joy surges in my chest and I throw my arms around him, loving the feeling of our bodies pressed together.
“I’ll never let anything tear us apart, ever again.” He whispers into my hair.
“I’ll never leave you, ever again.” He whispers back. We hold each other in the fading light of his hut, both of us knowing we will never again be left in conflict, hopelessly waiting in grief for comfort we believe can never come.
Because our hearts are together now and nothing will ever tear us apart, ever again. The bond between us is more intrinsic and stronger than the gravity that holds a planet to a star.
I pull myself even closer to him, wanting to impress upon myself that I’m really here, this is actually real.
It’s just me and Tsunis now.
Forever.
