Chaotic Nature Level N/A (Onetime Use) – Pick 1 of 10 randomly chosen abilities basted on racial mix. Can only once after entering the world.

“Is there anything else I should know?” Wolf asked.

“Once you enter the world there is a chance core facets may change or alter due to your influence.” Susan replied impassively.

Dismissing the thought as there was nothing he could do about it he said, “Ok, that seems like everything. I guess we should go ahead and get in the world.”

The room flashed blinding white as Wolf lost consciousness.

Time dragged on as Wolf’s consciousness faded in and out, he couldn’t move or control his body very much. His thoughts were a complete haze forgotten just as fast as they occurred. As time went on he gradually gained more and more control throughout his periods of black. Eventually he started hearing clashes of metal on metal, talking, shouts, screams, chanting, or singing but all of that was muted or indistinguishable. Eventually all sound stopped, time seemed to pause.

Chapter 6 – Path of survival

Finally, Wolf gained the complete awareness to the feeling of being submerged in cold goopy liquid and no air to breathe. He tried to move but was confined in a small sphere. Panic formed in his chest, as he realized he would suffocate unless he did something, so he started punching, kicking and doing anything he could to escape within the confined space. Even though his eyes were closed a grey bar in the middle started drain decrease. Instinctually he knew it was the time-limit until he suffocated. He managed to score a good punch on the wall when something surprised him, numbers floated across his vision.

Ancient Dragon Egg takes 1 Damage (5 damage mitigate)

Ancient Dragon Egg takes 0 Damage (5 damage mitigate)

Ancient Dragon Egg takes 1 Damage (5 damage mitigate)

Ancient Dragon Egg takes 1 Damage (5 damage mitigate)

Wolf continued to struggle punching and kicking in the confined space using up more and more precious oxygen. His head was growing with each passing second. Using the last bits of strength, Wolf’s oxygen deprived brain moved strictly through muscle memory and continued to assault the egg.

Critical! Ancient Dragon Egg takes 7 Damage (5 damage mitigated)

Ancient Dragon Egg has received the Fractured debuff!

Ancient Dragon Egg takes 19 Damage (+10 Damage from Fractured state)

Ancient Dragon Egg takes 18 Damage (+10 Damage from Fractured state)

Ancient Dragon Egg takes 19 Damage (+10 Damage from Fractured state)

Ancient Dragon Egg has been breached. You gain 100EXP

Wolf’s leg went through the breach causing the slime pour out allowing crisp cool air to fill the egg. Gasping and choking Wolf greedily sucked in the air, coughing and wheezing he paused to gather his strength before continuing. He continued to make the breach larger until he could finally crawl out. As he was finally able to crawl out he found himself on a nest of old cloth, dried leaves and branches. The ice-cold breeze cut through him like a knife, dropping his body temperature. His addled mind was dimming from the combination of exhaustion and cold.

You have been inflicted by the ‘Chilled’ debuff, you are suffering from the severe cold. -3 DEX and -2 INT. If you do not warm yourself within the next 2 hours, you will begin to take cold damage

Wolf started shaking uncontrollably as his training kicked in, he gathered detritus to start a fire. Using the dried leaves to act as kindling, a smaller piece of wood to create enough friction on a larger piece. Rubbing it faster and faster a small wisp of smoke trailed up until small embers became visible on the wood. Taking the leaves placed them in the embers, the smoke increased in strength as he blew it. Bright yellow flames sprouted from the leaves blinding him for a few seconds. Once his vision returned he took the now burning leaves, placing them on more kindling greatly increasing the fire. Luckily everything in the cave was dry otherwise it would have been much more difficult to start the fire. Putting several branches on the glowing fire he let the warmth permeate his body wrapping himself with the old moth-eaten cloth in the cave.

  ‘Chilled’ debuff has been removed

Wolf placed several large branches on the fire to keep it going as exhaustion started to overtake him. Curling up near the fire he fell asleep.

  ……………………………………………………..

Wolf woke shivering, looking at what remained of his fire he groaned sitting up. Restarting the fire, he warmed himself. Minutes passed as he became comfortable and tried to come to terms with his new life. The slime that covered his body had dried but remained sticky, causing the tattered cloth to cling to his skin. Taking a somewhat large piece of wood, he wrapped a strip of cloth tightly around one end in a makeshift torch. First order of business was to scout out where he was and what was around. Using strips of cloth to wrap his feet and genitals in rudimentary clothing he lit the torch to get a good look around.

Wolf found he was in a cave like he originally thought. The egg he crawled out of was made of a metallic black material with remnants of the sticky/slimy goop coagulated on the floor. Crunching his face in disgust at the smell emanating from it, he realized he also smelled like it. The surroundings of the egg were a nest of bones, wood, leaves, and extremely old cloth. Rummaging around he didn’t find anything of interest inside the nest so he decided to look further around. The cave was large; the ceiling was 10-15 meters tall at its peak but domed out to about 6 meters. The cave wall had outcroppings and crevices across until he came upon a larger corridor. Knowing he would need to find food and water soon he moved on through the opening. Walking through the cave corridor his torch started to burn out.

  “Shit” Wolf cussed

With a hand on the wall he continued onward, occasionally tripping or stubbing his toes in complete darkness. Without light, he had there was no concept of time passing. What seemed li
ke hours could have very well been minutes, Wolf used some of memory games to keep his mind busy and prevent him from thinking dark thoughts. He felt a breeze on his face and ground became a little more inclined. In the distance, he could see it become a bit brighter the closer he got. As it became brighter his hopes grew, eventually he found himself at the entrance of the cave staring out on a large lush forest going far out into the distance. Taking a deep breath, the smells of pine and spruce filled his lungs, reminding him of his childhood when he would go camping with his father on the east coast.

The cave was nestled in a deep crevice with a small meandering path leading down the mountain. The sun was almost at its precipice warming the land. Following the path down the mountain picking up various rocks along the way to start the knapping process, he entered the forest with a rough stone blade. Wolf used the stone blade to cut lengths of vines and shave bark off the saplings to make rope. Once he had enough strips he began to weave and twist them into small cords. This process took about an hour providing him with a 10ft long rope. Using the tracking skills, he learned from his family, game trails were easy to find. A small snare trap was set in the path of what looked like a rabbit.

After setting two more snares he moved on to find a small spring of water. Drinking his fill, and began to collect wood for a lean-to for the night. While idle he continued to knap a larger blade into an axe head using the fiber cord to bind a sturdy sapling trunk into a stone axe. After tying off the last part of the binding several notification windows appeared before his eyes.

Congratulations! You have unlocked the crafting tree ‘Weaponcrafting” at Beginner Level 1

By unlocking a crafting tree without a trainer you are awarded +1 INT.

Weaponcrafting Level 1 (Passive, Common) – Weapons you create gain +1% durability and .1% extra damage.

You have created a Stone Axe.

  Name: Stone Axe

  Quality: Trash

  Creator: Wolf Mikall

  Durability: 10/10

  Bonuses: None

  Critical Hit Rate: 1%

  Damage: 2-3

  Rarity: Makeshift

  Weight: .5 kg

Surprised at the notifications he examined the axe prompting the window screen to show again.

“Ok, that’s cool. This means some of my knowledge and skills will translate to this world, worth considering. The addition of potentially getting increased stat points from unlocking skills is something to consider further to see what other knowledge translates.”

Most of the newly formed fiber cord was used to lash his lean-to together but he saved enough to create his knife handle. His stomach was growling something fierce, but he knew his traps would need a time before he could check them. With time to spare he set about clearing his campsite. Once he was done with the camp he went to the spring to wash off the stickiness and sweat from the day’s work. Using a spare strip of cloth, he dipped it into the water and began giving himself a ‘bird’ bath.

Muttering to himself, “Man, what I wouldn’t give for a dam hot shower.”

Finishing his bird bath, he drank from the spring until he was full again, and considered washing what he was wearing. Deciding against it this time since it could very well fall apart in the process, he moved on toward his camp. When it was time to check on the snares, the first snare was empty, so he repositioned it in another spot for the night, the second snare had caught something that looked like a cross between a hamster and a cocker spaniel. Focusing on the struggling creature no name, HP bar, or even level was visible, Wolf would just need to wing it. Readying his knife and axe, Wolf stared at the 20kg oversized beaver. Watching the animal struggle, he waited until it began to wear itself out. Once the strength started to wane he moved forward. Brandishing his stone axe, he cautiously stalked up to the unaware animal, from behind he raised the stone axe and brought it down in a controlled fashion.

  Forest Nutria takes 8 Damage

The Nutria turned and bit Wolf on the calf causing him to reel in pain. Grimacing he felt the animal rip a chunk of his leg away. Fury engulfed him as he redoubled his efforts. Blood and gore flew from the animal as he continued to bash it with his axe causing jagged lacerations across the animal’s face. This time the Nutria bit him and pulled him off balance. Falling to the ground he lost grip of his axe. The Nutria tried to mount him but was only partially successful due to being held back by the snare. Biting Wolf’s left arm it began to tug and thrash its head. Wolf grabbed his stone knife blade and started jabbing it in the neck as hard and fast as he could. The Nutria’s jaws still locked on Wolf’s arm fell slack and stopped moving.

Congratulations! You have killed a level 1 Forest Nutria; you receive 5EXP

Dislodging his arm, blood was drizzling down pattering on his face. Wolf laid there putting pressure on his mangled arm to help staunch the bleeding. He looked at his HP, MP, STA, and EXP so far.

  HP: 26/55

  MP: 20/20

  STA: 31/55

  EXP: 115/1000

Thinking to himself ‘five fucking EXP for that shit. FUCK! God, this body is so slow!’ He lay there grunting through the pain as it slowly diminished when his HP slowly restored. Wolf wasn’t a stranger to being attacked or hurt in various ways, but this was the first time he had ever been bitten. Concluding that his ‘new’ body wasn’t conditioned or didn’t have the stats to perform the actions he did while he was a soldier on Earth. Examining all the blood that was caked on the rags he called clothes, he realized he would need to start from scratch with his abilities and be more efficient in killing his prey. Having recovered his HP, he butchered the Nutria. He collected several pounds of meat, bones, and most importantly sinew. The duct tape of the ancient world.

Finishing he moved on to the third trap. At the site of his third trap, he found the area covered in blood and foliage greatly disturbed. Wolf quickly backtracked and took a much longer winding path back to his campsite in the hopes that the predator would not find his cave. The sun was just setting when he arrived, so he went to the nearby spring to wash himself off the blood. After cleaning up he built a fire to cook the meat. He built up the fire to last through the night with the hopes of scaring away any of the predators that stalked the night. Tomorrow he would check his character screen, make more fiber cords, make better weapons, set more traps, secure his camp, and find some sort of solution to his clothing situation. With a game plan for the next day he slept. This would be the long path of survival.

The next morning Wolf woke up as light pierced his lean-to. Crawling out he saw the embers still burning in the fire pit. He stoked the fire back to life heated the remaining meat. After washing up he opened his character screen. Looking over it he saw several items that needed attention. Seeing a new field called class and in its field was ‘????’. This was a bit disconcerting as it was not in the original character screen. He moved on to his abilities and facepalmed when he saw the Chaotic Nature ability sitting there unused. Geez, what if he got an ability that helped him drastically?

Using the ability ‘Chaotic Nature’ a window popped up. With the name of ten abilities, Wolf needed to make a hard decision to choose.

He could immediately eliminate most of them except Draconic Fury, Natural Talent, and Elusive Target. When he selected these three the following descriptions were displayed.

Naturally Gifted Level 1 (Passive, Racial) – 10% chance to learn skills and spells through observation. Can occur once every week.

Elusive Target Level 1 (Active, Racial) – 10% less likely to be hit for 5 seconds. Cost: 10 STA, cooldown 30 minutes

Draconic Fury Level 1 (Active, Racial) – Enter an enraged state increasing damage dealt by 5% for 5 seconds, Cost: 15 STA, 5-minute cooldown

These abilities were great and would be useful. Thinking for a few minutes he eliminated Elusive Target as it would simply be a Band-Aid for combat. Also eliminating Draconic Fury due to its ‘glass cannon’ nature. This left Naturally Gifted would be a better long-term
choice. He thought out loud, “I guess I go the slow and steady route.”

Congratulations! You have unlocked the ability ‘Naturally Gifted’ at Beginner Level 1

Naturally Gifted Level 1 (Passive, Racial) – 10% chance to learn a skills and spells through observation. Can occur once every week.

With that decided, he looked over his other abilities in the list. He only had ‘Hardened Scales’ and ‘Ghost Warrior’ at level 1. With that taken care of he proceeded to knap a spearhead, make cord, cutting down branches, and anything else to build supplies and stretched out the hide to dry. By the time he finished it was already noon, heading to the traps. Seeing another Forest Nutria trapped in the first he started his attack more cautiously than before.

Chapter 7 – Soldiers, Slaves, Imperials, Oh my!

Congratulations! You have attained level 2. You have 4 stat points and 1 skill points to distribute

Two weeks passed, and Wolf finally gained level 2. He had killed many various animals and was surprised that tanning the hides was much easier here, the labor-intensive process in his previous life was much simpler here. From his gained level that Wolf received had 4 stat points, he added 2 points to both STR and DEX saving the skill point for later. The reflection displayed on the screen showed a werewolf looking man clad in leathers and furs. His reptilian eye slits stared back, the slight muzzle and ears were darker as were the scales covering his body. The tail that swished back and forth could be seen between his lupine legs. He ended up adding one skill and one trait to his ability list. So far, he found that to progress a skill you needed skill points. This was disappointing as it didn’t encourage practice or training.
