Marked (Dark Ties Book 1) Page 23

by A. Vers

I stare into his dark eyes from so close.

He means it. All of it.

I wrap my arms around his neck. When my hips rise to meet his, he bucks and grinds into me until Caine’s car dips under the power in his frame. “Even with my humanity gone?” I ask.

He smiles and leans into me. “Humanity is nice and all. But I hear sex with a vampire is great. Think of all the positions.” His eyebrows wiggle.

With a laugh, I kiss him hard. “And we’re going to try all of the positions for ... How long, exactly?” I prompt.

He nips at my lip. “Forever,” he demands, hands roaming all over me, each pass hotter than the last.

I smile and hold him tighter as he continues his devious exploration. “Then forever it is.” My head falls back as he laves his tongue over my neck. “But, something you should know... Draven said he sent the Brightex to Georgia.”

Ruin stills. His dark head raises. “Georgia?” he asks, incredulous. “What the fuck is in Georgia?”

“A partner, maybe?” His eyes narrow more. “He said this was only Act One. And that we are on the brink of change or some shit.”

His brows scrunch together. “Were those his exact words?”

“It was more that they were wiping the slate clean. Starting over. A new Earth, I think.”

He pulls back and I lean against the hood of the car. “What? What did you think of?” I ask.

“I have an informant near the capital of Georgia. Over the last few months, there have been reports ... Reports of supernaturals being kidnapped, packs destroyed, covens killed ... And strange creatures terrorizing the state.”

I push away from the warm metal, heart racing. “Creatures?”

“Beings made from shadow. Something older than anything on Earth.” His hands clench. “But for the last week, there has been nothing. No calls, no emails. It’s like the state went dark.”

“It could be coincidence,” he mutters, pacing before me. “But if Draven really sent the Brightex to Georgia, there could’ve been more going on than even my informant knew. But to not hear from him at all ... It has to be bad there.”

“How bad are we talking?” I ask, not sure if I even want the answer.

His dark eyes are bottomless again and hard when he looks at me. “Like war level bad.” A trace of gold light filters into his irises, pushing back the dark. “And I have the strangest feeling it’s coming for us too.”
