“Yeah, Stretch. I do.”
And just like that night, he slipped one arm around my waist to draw me closer, and slid his other hand beneath my jaw, gently nudging my chin up.
This kiss felt even more perfect than the first one had nine years ago, and this time no camp director and nurse stumbled up the trail to interrupt it. The contours of Adam’s body had changed as he’d grown into it, but somehow, he felt like home. His lips were more sure, and I slid my arms up his chest and around his neck, drawing him even closer, losing myself entirely as he deepened the kiss.
When he finally broke away and leaned his forehead against mine, I gave a soft sigh. “I don’t know if I fell in love with you again after three days, or if I never fell out of love in the first place.”
“Just so you know, Tabitha Winters, you are not my backup plan. You’re everything I’ve ever wanted since I was twenty-one, but I didn’t have the wisdom or guts to see it. But I see you now.”
“Okay, but just so you know, you didn’t have to buy our entire summer camp to convince me,” I teased.
“Sure, I did. How else could I make sure we had the perfect venue?”
I gave a very audible gulp. “Um, ‘venue’ is a wedding word.”
“You’re dead right it is. But don’t worry, Tabby Cat. We’ll have a whole year to plan.”
I laughed and pressed another kiss against his lips. “That should freak me out completely.”
“But it doesn’t?”
“It doesn’t.” And I felt the magic in the roots of my hair again.
Then Adam spent the rest of the night proving that every kiss he gave me would be more perfect than the one before.
