“What about you, Ben?” Mary asked.

Scratching his head, Ben looked extremely uncomfortable. “I guess I’ve always fantasised about a girl forcing herself on me.”

“You are fucking kidding me, right?” Justin screeched. “You’d need to pay someone to force their arse on you.” Justin shook his head in dismay. “As if a woman could ever force themselves on anyone.”

“It does happen,” I protested. All eyes turned toward me.

“Nah, can’t believe that.” Justin’s tone was belligerent.

“You’re telling me a man can’t be raped?”

“It’s a physical impossibility.” Justin was laughing at how preposterous he thought this all was.

“If you don’t believe me, look it up. I’m sure you’ll find some cases.”

“Okay, clever clogs, how come you know so much about it?” Justin looked at me with an amused smile. Enjoying the banter, everyone listened attentively.

“I did an article in one of my classes about rape, and how it not only pertains to women. I’m telling you, it happens.” Taking a sip of my drink, I stared Justin down.

“Okay, tell me. What’s your darkest sexual fantasy, Tyler?” Mary said, trying to get them back on track.

I bit my lip, unprepared for the question to come to me so quickly. I didn’t know whether I wanted to share my darkest fantasy. I had never told anyone before.

I had twenty pair of eyes now on me, waiting for my answer. Do I tell them? Or do I try and make something up?

Fuck it, why shouldn’t I? It’s not as though it will ever happen in my lifetime. My fantasy is just too unreal to ever happen.

“I’ve always wanted to have sex with a stranger.” I bit my lip again, wondering what the others may think of me.

My best friend, Ian, frowned. “You mean meet someone in a club, or wherever, and have a one-night stand?”

I shook my head. “No. I mean someone I have never met. A faceless man who comes to me in the dead of night.”

Justin shrieked with laughter. “Shit, Tyler! Are you saying you want to be raped?”

I threw him a dirty look. “Of course not, Justin. Don’t be crude. I mean a sexy stranger who I know nothing about. Someone I have no clue as to who he is.”

Betsy’s eyes widened. “Oh, my god, Tyler. That really is dark. But I must admit—sexy!”

I smiled. “Just like I thought.”

Justin, not wanting to give up, states, “So you want a faceless man to come to you in the dead of night and have sex with you? With your permission, of course.”

  I nodded. “I believe that’s what I said.”

Justin chuckled. “What’s your address again?”

The room erupted in laughter. Glaring at Justin, I realised this was going to be a long night.

  Excerpt from SIREN

  Prologue

I stand over my father’s grave, wiping the tears that threaten to fall onto the soil beneath my feet. I’m wearing a black dress, which is cut just above the knee, and on my feet is a pair of brand new, black and red Louboutin high heels. I scream class, but I am also the perfect image of a daughter in deep distress over her father’s untimely death.

And what an untimely death it was.

I clutch my chest, heaving sobs of grief as I bend down to lay new flowers at his grave. I have been coming here every single day, bringing new flowers to replace the old ones. I pick up yesterday’s flowers and toss them aside as I trace the line of my father’s name on his headstone.

Here lies Richard Valentine, loving father to two daughters. Born 26th January 1970, Died 15th July 2016.

That was three weeks ago. His body was found buried in Virginia Water in Surrey—only nineteen miles or so from where I live. He was buried deep, but a storm sixteen days ago unearthed his decaying body. He had a stab wound in his back which was determined to be the cause of his death. It was murder, of course, and it is only now that the police are investigating.

At first, they thought he had run away—possibly met a girl, got swept off his feet, and was living by the beach, sipping cocktails with a buxom blonde. My sister kept on the case, though. She tried to tell them that it wasn’t like him to just disappear without at least keeping in touch. I vouched for her to the police, but I also reminded her of that time when he disappeared for a year without a trace and came back just as suddenly as he had left. I knew the real reason why, but I didn’t divulge it to my sister or to the police. That little secret was between Daddy and me alone. The two police officers gave each other that look… The one that says, “Yeah, there’s no foul play here.” They just thought he had found the girl of his dreams and was busy acting the part of the doting boyfriend to his new plaything.

As I think on this, I stroke his grave tenderly and sweep away the leaves that have fallen from the nearby trees. I need to make sure that it is clean and tidy before kneeling down at his grave and throwing my arms over the gravestone. With my arms shielding me from anyone who may be watching, I take in a long, deep breath. A smirk rises on my face as I utter the words, “You always loved it when I threw my arms around you, didn’t you?” I sigh, scooting up to get closer to his headstone before spitting on his grave.

“I hope you’re enjoying your time in Hell, Daddy.”

  Notes & Acknowledgements

For people who are familiar with me and my writing will know I favour the side of taboo. I think myself (along with many others) will agree it’s one of their guilty pleasures. I had the idea for Forbidden Desires about a year ago, but with many of my other books, I sat on the idea for a while until the urge to put it down on paper took hold.

Anyway, enough of my waffling, I need to thank some people.

To Monica Black, from Word Nerd Editing. Thank you so much for editing and proofreading Forbidden Desires. You did a fantastic job with your red pen!

To Francessca Wingfield from Francessca PR & Design. What can I say about you? You always do a kick-arse cover. You never fail to disappoint, my friend. Thank you.

To Leigh Stone, from Formatting by Leigh, thank you so much for formatting Forbidden Desires. You’ve done most of the formatting for me, and also most of the time on a very tight deadline, so it’s a no brainer. The inside—as always—looks beautiful.

To Tracey from Be My Book Boyfriend and Pure Textuality PR, thank you so much for working your butts off—as always—on promoting Forbidden Desires for me. You guys rock.

Obviously, I can’t go without thanking my family. They support me one hundred percent, and for that, I’m truly grateful. I love you all to bits!

And lastly, the readers. Thank you so much for sticking with me, through the good and the bad. I know some of my work hasn’t been loved by all, so I’m eternally grateful with your loyalty. I will be bringing out more books as the years progress, so I hope you enjoy most. Whatever the outcome of what you think or feel, I value your opinion. I will always value a reader’s opinion. As I stated above, you are what helps me grow and develop as an author. I know I can do better. I can always do better.

  Love and light,
