I laughed. “Would you believe that I’m getting the keys early? He’s giving them to me next week. The paperwork won’t be done for the sale for another three weeks, but we are both sure that all will go through quickly. He’s giving me the keys early, and then he will fly back for the closing.”

“Wow! You’re moving in next week?”

“Yep.” Devon snorted, and I set my coffee mug down and went to him, kissing his head as I lifted him into my arms. “So, if you want to join us, let me know soon. Otherwise, I’m going to have to start the interview process and find a nanny to move in.”

She gnawed on her bottom lip. “I’ll consider it, Trevor.”

I sat on the other end of the couch with Devon, and she threw the cover back and got up. “I’ll get a bottle for him.”

I watched her pass me, letting my gaze drift down her attire. Damn, she looked so fucking cute in my clothes. So much so that something below the belt began to come to life.

I forced my attention off of Davina and back to Devon. “You want Aunt Davina to come live with us, don’t you?” I asked him.

He cooed softly as he reached for my face. I kissed his hand, and he grabbed my bottom lip, pulling it as he babbled.

“See, I knew you did,” I said once he’d let go of my mouth.

I glanced at Davina, and she was grinning as she prepared his bottle.

“Let’s get you changed, and then you can eat, big boy,” I said as I got off the couch. I gathered a diaper and wipes and laid him on the floor.

I had just pulled his diaper back when suddenly, I got sprayed in the face. “Oh, shit!” I grumbled as I pushed his diaper back down. “He just peed on me!”

Davina started laughing. “Did he really?”

“Yes, I took his diaper off, and he just let loose!” I tore my shirt over my head and used it to wipe my face. “Okay, little man, that was gross. Let’s not do that anymore.” I peaked under the diaper. “You done?”

Devon babbled, kicking his legs into the air as he tried to eat his hands. “Someone is hungry,” Davina said from above me.

“Yeah, well, can you feed him so I can wash up?”

“Yeah,” she replied with a chuckle. “I had heard that might happen. It’s a little more dangerous with boys since it points up.”

“No kidding. I never even thought about that.” I put his new diaper on him. “I need some clean clothes for him; he got his pj’s wet.”

Davina collected some from the container off to the side and handed them down. I made quick work of it and then handed him off to her. “If you had asked me a month ago if I could change a diaper and get a baby dressed, I would have laughed in your face.”

“Yeah, but you have it all figured out now.”

I glanced at her, my brow furrowed. “Not all, but I’m starting to figure it out. Like I had no idea that I was supposed to be feeding him more.”

“He’s a growing boy,” Davina said in a playful voice as she grinned down at Devon. “Aren’t you a growing boy?”

He babbled at her, and then she took a seat in the glider and gave him the bottle. One of his hands pushed up against the bottle. “Is he trying to hold it?”

“No, I don’t think so. I think he’s just now learning that he has hands that move, and he likes to touch things.”

I crossed my arms over my chest. “I thought you didn’t know anything about kids.”

She shrugged. “I get a daily email about baby stuff. I signed up when Devon was born. Tells me things he might be doing or things that might need attention. It’s how I knew he probably needed more food.”

“You need to give me that site,” I told her seriously.

“Give me your email, and I will,” she told me.

I went to wash my face and hands and then grabbed a new t-shirt while Devon ate. After collecting my coffee again, I told her my plans for the house, showing her pictures on my phone of the furniture I planned on getting for his room. We talked for a while about other plans I had for the house, and then Devon was finished eating.

“Man, did he finish six ounces that fast?”

“Yeah, he might almost be ready for seven, but I’d give it a couple of days.”

“He has a doctor’s appointment on Monday. I hope they can give me some more advice.”

  “Good idea.”

She kissed Devon and then held him out to me. “I need to get going.”

“Okay, let me get dressed, and I’ll take you home.”

“No, that’s okay. You have things to do, and I can call a car.”

“Davina, I can take you home.”

She smiled at me. “It’s okay; you have a lot to get done today. I’ll take a car. It will be easier.”

  “If you’re sure.”

“Absolutely.” She collected her stuff and went back to my bedroom to use my bathroom.

I checked my phone and found an email from Margo. She wanted me to read over some papers before I came in to sign them. That would be easier with my laptop, and I strapped Devon in his bouncy chair while I went to collect it.

I stepped into my bedroom and noticed the bathroom door wasn’t all the way closed. A two-inch gap afforded me a straight view of Davina standing in her pale pink panties as she slipped on her bra. The sight of her heavy naked breast slammed into me. Fuck—instant hard-on. I couldn’t help but watch as she wiggled into the fabric and then did the clasp.

I quickly stepped back out of the bedroom and went back to the living room. Jesus, her breast had been perfect, and I wanted to rush back into the bathroom and strip her bra off. I paced for a moment as I tried to talk myself down. She might be kissing me and not giving me a hard time, but I did not doubt that she’d lose her mind if I tried to make love to her.

Make love—when was the last time I had thought of sex in those terms? I couldn’t remember. It had always been sex, never anything to do with love.

I was in the kitchen, rinsing the bottles when Davina returned. I couldn’t help but stare at her chest, my erection almost painful below my hips. Devon let out a squeal, and Davina laughed.

“Aren’t you feeling playful this morning,” Davina said to him.

“Aren’t we both,” I muttered to myself, but it wasn’t loud enough for her to hear.

“So, you’re going to pick me up at one, right?”

  “Yeah, is that okay?”

“Perfect,” she said as she messed with her phone. She slipped it into her pocket when she finished. “The car should be here in a couple of minutes, so I’m going to go outside and wait. I’ll see you later.”

I should have escorted her down the stairs, should have kissed her goodbye, but I stayed where I was. The last thing I needed her to see was my dick poking my pants out as it begged for her attention. “Alright, I’ll see you later. Thanks for your help, Davina.”

She smiled widely at me. “No problem, Trevor. Good luck today.” She started heading down the stairs as I said thanks.

I heard the door open and then close, and I peered out the kitchen window to see her walking down the sidewalk. I glanced down at my hips; my dick throbbed painfully. Damn, I needed to release that thing. I glanced at Devon, now if only he would take a nap, I could shower and get some relief.

Sadly, he was bouncing happily in his seat, and after sleeping all night, I had a feeling he wasn’t taking a nap anytime soon.

  Chapter Twenty-Two

  Davina

Even though I’d slept on his couch, I’d slept well. I’d also had quite a few rather nice dreams about Trevor that had begun as a fantasy as I’d fed Devon around midnight.

I imagined putting Devon back into his bassinet and then slipping into Trevor’s room to climb in bed beside him. I would curl my body up against his, could imagine his surprise as he came slightly awake and responded to my presence. I imagined him pulling me into his arms, touching me tenderly, kissing me harder, and making love to me in the early morning hours of the day.

It had been hard to go ba
ck to sleep at first because so much of me wanted to follow through on that fantasy. However, I wasn’t crazy, and I knew that sleeping with Trevor wasn’t smart. No matter how I was starting to feel for him, I knew that Trevor wasn’t the man for me. Despite Carol wishing he were.

In the car back to my place, I contemplated his proposal again. Could I possibly live in his house and not get involved with him? I had a feeling that if I did move in, we’d eventually fall into bed with one another. I just couldn’t imagine what would happen after that. What if we did sleep with one another a couple of times, and then we decided that it wasn’t going to work? How awkward would it be to remain living under the same roof?

Not that he’d even suggested that we be more than roommates. I knew that was what he was offering, and perhaps I was jumping the gun here. I sighed as the driver let me out, and I quickly passed the money over to him with the app on my phone as I said thank you and goodbye.

It was only nine when I got home, and I had a while before I needed to start the process of getting dressed. Yes, it was going to be a process because I’d already decided that I was going to straighten my hair, which would take almost an hour by itself.

I did, however, take a shower and wash my hair so it would have plenty of time to dry before I needed to work on it with the flat iron. While it dried, I ate a large breakfast and then did some homework.

At eleven, I plugged in the flat iron and let it heat up. I could get that done, and then I would have time while I dressed to make sure it took before Trevor arrived.

While I worked on my loathsome hair, I sang to the music on my phone and danced around the bathroom a little bit. My gaze slipped over the room, and I suddenly wished I’d paid more attention to the size of the bathroom in the in-law suite of his new place. Was it big enough? I knew the master bathroom would have been big enough for three people and all their stuff, but was the in-law suite big enough for all my bathroom accouterments?

Before I applied my makeup, I went and ate a hot dog even though my breakfast was only a couple of hours earlier. I knew it would be a while before we had a chance to eat at the wedding, so I wanted to make sure my stomach wasn’t grumbling through the service.

I applied my makeup, styled my hair by pulling it back on the sides and securing it with sparkling silver clips, and then turned my head from side to side. I looked pretty damn good if I did say so myself.

What would Trevor think of me? Would he like my hair better today as it was smooth and long? When I straightened it, it took on almost four inches, so while normally shoulder-length, it was down my back now.

With a glance at my cellphone, I saw that it was almost time, and I slipped into the dress. The back was cut out under my bra strap, and I gnawed on my bottom lip, wondering if it was too sexy for today. Ugh, I thought to myself. “It’s going to have to do.”

I didn’t have time to find something else, and as I stood back and looked in the mirror on the back of my bathroom door, I smiled. It looked fantastic, I looked fantastic. I slipped my feet into silver heels, colored my lips, and then added a few things to a small gray clutch purse.

Now, I just needed earrings and the necklace. I collected my small diamond studs, and Carol’s lightning necklace and added them to my ensemble. Another peek in the mirror, well, if this doesn’t get his attention, I don’t know what will.

A knock sounded at the door, and I turned off my music, noticing that it was exactly one o’clock. Talk about punctual! I inhaled deeply and released it as butterflies zipped around in my stomach. Man, you would think that I was the one getting married today with how nervous I suddenly was.

I paused at the door as another knock sounded and closed my eyes. “You got this,” I said softly before I pulled the door open.

Trevor looked incredible standing on the other side of the door dressed in a black tux with a light-gray bow tie. His hair was styled much like he normally wore it, but I could see it had a bit more product in it to give it a little flair at the front.

He stepped back, his lips parting as his gaze slipped down to my feet and then slowly back up. He swallowed tightly, his Adam’s apple bobbing. “You look very pretty.”

Very pretty? That was all? I tried not to let the simple compliment get to me. I had hoped for you look amazing, or gorgeous, or absolutely stunning. A very pretty was ranked low on my list of compliments. “Thank you. You look very nice yourself.”

That was a damn understatement. Trevor looked like he could be a tuxedo model with how freaking sexy he looked, but he said I looked very pretty, so he received a very nice himself.

His gaze was slipping over me again, and then he studied my face and hair. “Wow, you even straightened your hair.”

Hey, I guess I should be happy that he noticed. Obviously, no matter what I did, I would never measure up to the women he preferred. I hid my disappointment behind a mask of a smile. “You ready to go? I just need to grab my purse.”

“Yeah,” he said so softly I almost didn’t hear him. Had he changed his mind? Did he not want me to go with him today? Well, too bad. I was going.

With my small clutch and a light cloak that matched the dress, I locked my door while he stood silently in the hall beside me. He walked stiffly beside me, his hand on my lower back, and I almost changed my mind, but I didn’t.

He held the truck door open for me, and for a moment, he just stared at me sitting in the seat. Then he shook his head and quickly closed the door.

Once we were on the road, I tried to bring up conversation to attempt to lessen the tension in the air. “How did it go today?”

His face whipped my way. “What? Oh, yeah, it went really good.” As we drove, he talked about the papers he had signed and what he needed to do next. By the time we arrived at the church, we both seemed to have calmed down.

He opened the door for me again and helped me down from the truck before he tucked my hand into the crook of his arm and led me toward the church. When we got inside, Alex and a few other men were standing around at the entrance. The two men hugged, and Alex turned to me.

“You look amazing, Davina.” He kissed my cheek and introduced me to two other men who were there that I had not met named Bill and Wyatt. Jake raked his eyes over me, looking appreciatively at the low neckline. A slow smile slid over his lips, and Trevor wrapped his arm around my waist, tucking me into his side.

Did he not like someone else looking at me like that? I stayed where I was, content to be close to him as the men joked about Alex being ready to tie the knot. More people began to arrive, and someone came to say that Alex and his party needed to head to the back waiting area.

Trevor turned to me. “I have to go. I’ll see you after the ceremony.”

“Have fun,” I told him as he stared down at me. I thought he was going to walk away, but at the last moment, he leaned down and brushed a kiss over my cheek.

“Later,” he whispered as he stood back up.

Later? As in he’d see me later? Or did he mean something else? The intense look in his eye made me think he was talking about something else, but I had to be mistaken. Or was he going to tell me later that he’d changed his mind about me moving in? Maybe dressing up had shown him that I really wasn’t his type and he was going to tell me it was over. Not that there was anything to be over with, but whatever.

I watched him go and spun around when I heard my name called. Clare rushed to me and hugged me tightly. She pulled back, dropping her eyes to my shoes and back up. “Holy hell, girl! You look incredible! Damn, I bet Trevor about lost it when he saw you.”

I laughed to cover up my disappointment. “Of course,” I said with a fake smile plastered to my lips.

She excused herself a moment later, and I wandered into the sanctuary and stared at the two sides. I guess I was supposed to sit on the groom’s side since I was here with Trevor. I went about halfway down and slid into a pew.

As the church began to fill, I found myself looking forward to the service. I lov
ed weddings, although I hadn’t been to many. That’s what happened when you didn’t have many friends or the ones that you now had were already married. At thirty-two, most of the people my age were well into their marriages or starting second ones.

The music changed, and the men came out a side door and lined up near the front. I had to give it to Alex; he didn’t look at all nervous. I wondered if Lexi appeared as calm. My gaze shifted and landed on Trevor. He really was beautiful, and the sight of him sucked the air from my lungs.

He was searching the rows, and when his gaze landed on mine, a smile spread slowly over his lips. We stared at each other for a long moment, and I swear I saw things that weren’t there. I felt like he was trying to tell me something as he continued to lock eyes with me, but I couldn’t fathom what the message could be.

Before I could even come up with an idea, the music changed again, and the back doors opened as the ceremony officially began. I watched with avid interest as the bridesmaids entered and then stood as Lexi came into view.

She was radiant as she glided down the aisle. Her eyes were bright, her smile strong and sure. There were no doubts in her eyes, no hesitation or wonder if this was the right thing. She knew, and I turned to glance at Alex; he looked bowled over. I frowned; he looked almost like Trevor had when I’d opened the door. Sort of speechless.

I shifted to look at Trevor; he was watching me. Had Trevor been more impressed by how I looked than he let on? He winked at me and turned his attention to Lexi as she reached the front.

I barely heard the words at the start as I was stuck in my own head, wondering if I had been wrong. Had Trevor just been shocked at the sight of me? Unable to come up with words? He didn’t seem like that type of man, but as he shifted and looked at me again, I saw the heat in his eyes. Heat meant for me and I shivered slightly.

  Chapter Twenty-Three

  Trevor

I stood at her door, unable to form words. Time seemed to slow down and with it, my heartbeat. She looked utterly amazing, and that dress—holy shit—that dress looked incredible on her, her waistline accentuated, her bust almost exploding from the plunging neckline. Even the shoes on her dainty feet were beautiful.
