About the Judges
David Vernon is a full time writer and editor. While he is known for his non-fiction books about birth: Men at Birth, Having a Great Birth in Australia, Birth Stories and With Women, he has turned his hand to writing science articles for newspapers and magazines as well as scribbling the odd short story or two. Some would emphasise the word “odd’. He is currently writing an Australian history book. He is founder of Stringybark Stories. David’s website is: http://www.davidvernon.net
Gregory Blake was born in Melbourne the year Henry Bolte became the premier of Victoria. He is a teacher, artist, author and historian. He has travelled the world; lived and worked as a teacher in Victoria, the Northern Territory and now the ACT. He has illustrated for magazines and books and has written and illustrated a book that examines in great detail the battle for the Eureka Stockade — To Pierce the Tyrant’s Heart. He keeps telling himself that he must write and illustrate more books.
Jamie Hodder’s early passions were for all things to do with shopping, writing and history, in particular, various world mythologies. Now all grown up, he buys for a living and writes for a hobby, but would much prefer it to be the other way around.
He has a long-standing interest in archaeology and anthropology, which extends well beyond looking up old friends. An avid reader of pretty much anything that falls in front of him and can be seen haunting the rows of shelves of bookstores and libraries fossicking for a forgotten gem. He is currently finishing off two novels but is constantly side tracked by his love of writing short stories. He intends to one day publish but is having too much fun at the moment with the developmental process. http://jamiehodder.blogspot.com/
Nadine Smith is a dog-obsessed bibliophile who spent her adolescence in a thesaurus. This improved her vocabulary but warped her social skills. They now match her sense of humour. She has been pursuing happiness and prosperity in the public service with all the success of a unicycle in the Tour de Femme. Her unfinished works include Singularly Unacceptable, A Mango in My Wardrobe and The Blenkinsopp Collection. Nadine has previously judged the Stringybark Flash Fiction Award.
