“Just keep your voice low,” says Kristina.
Everyone sits in a chair around a circular outdoor patio table and Kiran asks, “What about the cameras?”
“There is only one out here and I put a plant in front of it last night,” answers Kristina.
“Tell them what you told me last night,” says Evelyn to Kiran.
“There is some major movement around here. Some new orders came in and groups of soldiers are moving off base and something big seems to be happening,” says Kiran.
“What are the orders?” asks Kyle.
“I’m not sure exactly, but I heard three different groups talking last night about three different orders. One group is going into Pennsylvania, the second to New York, and the third to New Jersey to clear cities out, and I think they are calling the order Reset,” answers Kiran.
“What cities are they going to?” asks Kyle.
“It was hard to hear all of them, but I definitely heard New York City for sure,” answers Kiran.
“Tell them what you heard about the new lab experiments,” says Evelyn.
Kiran looks at Kyle and says, “They are experimenting on people. Living people now.”
Kyle looks at Kiran and Kiran continues, “They even took some people from base to experiment on.”
“How do you know that?” asks Kristina.
“Two soldiers were bragging about it on the radio. They were saying how they broke into a house and they took a couple and their kids,” answers Kiran.
Kristina looks at Kyle with a concerned look.
“Do you know who they were?” asks Kyle.
“I just know that they were living on base and the soldiers were ordered to grab them and bring them in,” answers Kiran.
“What should we do?” asks Kristina to Kyle.
“That’s why we are leaving,” says Kiran.
“You should leave with us,” says Evelyn to Kyle and Kristina.
Kyle thinks about what to do and processes the information that Kiran just told him.
“I started packing last night, and we only need to pack Kiran’s electronics and then we are going back home,” says Evelyn.
“I wouldn’t be leaving, if it wasn’t bad,” says Kiran to Kyle.
“I understand, and I don’t fault you for wanting to leave,” replies Kyle.
Evelyn starts to feel anxious and says, “I’m going to start bringing our stuff downstairs and loading our car.”
“I’ll be up in a minute,” replies Kiran and Evelyn goes back into the house and goes upstairs.
Kiran looks at Kyle and says, “Look I’m going to be real with you two. I’m not sure how dangerous it is in here now with the new orders, but Evelyn wants to leave.”
“You think it’s safe to stay here though?” asks Kyle to Kiran.
“Since you two are connected with the lab and you have connections here, I think so, but just be smart,” answers Kiran.
“Do you think we are in danger though?” asks Kristina to Kiran.
“Hard to tell, but it seems like things are changing here. New people, new orders, and new problems,” answers Kiran.
“Anything else you can tell us before you leave?” asks Kyle to Kiran.
“Not all the new people that came here seem to be bad. There is a guy named Major Hoffmann and he seems to have a problem with Colonel Meyers,” answers Kiran.
“Power struggle?” asks Kristina.
“I don’t know, but I heard soldiers talking about how Major Hoffmann got into a fight with Colonel Meyers and it sounded like a pretty awesome brawl,” answers Kiran.
“What were they fighting about?” asks Kristina to Kiran.
“Something about Colonel Meyers doing something that Major Hoffmann didn’t like, and it sounded like it was over Colonel Meyers’ group abusing their power with civilians and women,” answers Kiran.
“So note to self, stay away from Colonel Meyers and his group,” says Kristina.
Kiran stands up from his chair and says, “Just be careful if you guys stay here. You can always come back to my house if you need to.”
“Thank you Keer,” answers Kyle.
Kiran goes back into the house and Kyle and Kristina look at each other.
“Are we going to stay or leave?” asks Kristina to Kyle.
“What do you think we should do?” asks Kyle.
Kristina looks at Kyle and answers, “Putting the big decisions on me huh?”
“Just want your input, we are a team,” answers Kyle.
“Will you be okay with leaving though?” asks Kristina.
“Where will we go? So we go to Kiran’s house, then what? We stay there forever?” answers Kyle.
Kristina thinks about Kyle’s questions and thinks about what they should do in the short term and also the long term.
“Wish we could get a hold of Sheila and Elias,” says Kristina.
Kyle thinks about getting a hold of Sheila and Elias and says, “Let’s see if we can talk with Paxton.”
“Right now?” asks Kristina.
“Yeah, right now,” answers Kyle.
Kyle goes back into his house and Kristina follows him. They both go upstairs, and Kyle tells Kristina, “I’m going to tell Kiran something.”
Kristina goes into the master bedroom and changes her clothes.
Kyle goes into Kiran’s bedroom and he sees that Kiran is starting to box up his electronics.
“Kris and I are going for a run to talk with someone, when do you think you are leaving?” asks Kyle to Kiran.
“It will take some time for me to pack up all of my electronics, but where are you going?” answers Kiran.
“Just down the street, going to see P,” answers Kyle.
“Okay, if we leave before you get back, we’ll stop by there,” replies Kiran.
Kyle steps towards Kiran and Evelyn’s open bedroom door and Evelyn stops Kyle.
Kyle looks at Evelyn and says, “Thank you for bringing us here, it was nice to see you and Kristina and Kaden.”
It sounds like Evelyn is saying her final goodbyes and Kyle doesn’t like that. “It was nice to really spend some time with you. I don’t remember when I actually got to spend this much time with both of you.”
Evelyn hugs Kyle and says, “Just be careful.”
Kyle exits Kiran and Evelyn’s room and goes into his master bedroom and changes his clothes.
Kyle and Kristina exit their bedroom and Kyle opens Kaden’s bedroom door. Kaden is laying in his bed and Kyle says, “K wake up.”
Kaden doesn’t wake up and Kyle and Kristina walk into Kaden’s bedroom.
“K, wake up,” says Kyle with a slightly louder tone than his normal tone.
“What time is it?” asks Kaden with an annoyed tone.
“We are going to see P, and Kiran and Evelyn are leaving,” answers Kristina.
Kaden wakes up and asks, “Where are they going? Why are they leaving?”
“Back to their house,” answers Kyle.
Kaden looks at Kyle and asks, “What’s going on? Is everything okay?”
“Just pack up your things, we might be leaving,” answers Kristina.
“Why would we leave this place though?” asks Kaden as he sits up in his bed.
“We’ll talk when we get back, but just get your stuff organized,” answers Kyle.
Kyle and Kristina say goodbye to Kaden, and they exit their house.
“Are we taking our car?” asks Kristina.
Kyle starts jogging and Kristina says, “Guess not.”
Kristina starts jogging and catches up to Kyle.
Kyle and Kristina are jogging down the sidewalk and they pass several homes in the neighborhood. All the homes are the exact same color and model, and it looks like the homes were built recently.
Paxton’s house is coming up on Kyle and Kristina’s left and Kristina makes it to Paxton’s house first.
Kyle tries to catch his breath as he walks up the front porch steps of Paxton’s house
and over to Kristina.
Kristina knocks on Paxton’s front door.
KNOCK! KNOCK!
Pauline answers the front door and Kristina asks if Paxton is here and that she would like to talk with him.
“He’s here, but he’s probably hung over,” answers Pauline and she invites Kyle and Kristina into the house.
Pauline closes and locks her front door, and she offers Kyle and Kristina something to drink.
Kyle and Kristina each accept a bottle of water and they see Pete reading something in the living room.
“Morning,” says Kyle to Pete.
“Morning,” replies Pete to Kyle and Kyle notices that Pete is reading a large book that is titled Hematology and The Human Immune System as he sits on the beige living room sofa.
Paxton’s living room has more details and items than the living room in the Sinclair’s house.
Kyle notices the bookshelves, the sofa, the end tables, and a couple objects on various shelves on the bookshelves and the end table where Pete is sitting on the sofa. Kyle also sees a satellite phone laying on the end table next to where Pete is sitting.
“How old are you Pete?” asks Kyle.
“Seventeen sir,” answers Pete.
“Have you met our son Kaden?” asks Kyle to Pete.
“Once sir,” answers Pete.
Paxton walks into the living room and he looks to be hung over from all the drinking that he did yesterday.
“Morning shit head,” says Paxton to Pete.
“Morning dick face,” replies Pete to Paxton.
“What’s going on Kyle?” asks Paxton to Kyle.
“Can we talk privately?” asks Kyle to Paxton.
“Yeah, just let me get some coffee and I’ll meet you and Kristina out on the back patio,” answers Paxton.
Kyle and Kristina go out onto Paxton’s back patio and they each sit in a nice comfortable patio chair.
Paxton comes out onto the back patio with a mug of coffee and Paxton sits down in a patio chair next to Kyle.
“You doing okay this morning?” asks Kyle to Paxton.
Paxton takes a sip from his coffee mug and answers, “I’m doing much better now.”
“We need to get in touch with Sheila or Elias,” says Kristina to Paxton.
“Why? What happened?” asks Paxton.
“Well, several things. The lab that our former CBD agents work in on base here was damaged and there was blood on several of the windows inside the lab,” answers Kristina.
“What happened?” asks Paxton.
“We don’t know. We went there after we talked with you yesterday and we couldn’t get into the lab. We saw the blood and we weren’t able to talk with anyone about it,” answers Kyle.
“Were there any bodies or dead ones inside the lab? Did you talk with anyone like Commander Pine or Dr. Yen?” asks Paxton.
“The lab was empty when we got there, but we did see broken lab equipment and that blood was on the floor, counters, and windows,” answers Kristina.
“So something happened in the lab, that’s not my department,” says Paxton.
“But we also found out that people are being taken from the base for experiments,” says Kyle.
Paxton gives Kyle and Kristina a concerned look and asks, “How do you know that?”
“We have our sources, but is it true?” answers Kyle.
“I don’t know, the last thing I heard is that the base was about to start testing everyone here. Taking blood, saliva, and every other fluid they can get from people,” answers Paxton.
“Who was doing the testing?” asks Kyle.
“I’m guessing Commander Pine and Dr. Yen, but that’s just a guess,” answers Paxton.
“So how do we get in touch with Sheila and Elias?” asks Kristina to Paxton.
“You don’t, they get in touch with you,” answers Paxton.
Kyle looks at Paxton and he finds it unbelievable that Paxton does not have a way to get in touch with Sheila and Elias.
Paxton drinks some of his coffee and Kyle looks at Paxton’s body language.
“Why were you drinking so heavily yesterday?” asks Kyle to Paxton.
Paxton looks at Kyle and answers, “Just felt the need to decompress.”
Kyle continues to examine Paxton’s posture, body language, tone, and how he replies to Kyle’s questions.
Kyle looks at Kristina and Kristina can tell from the look that Kyle gave her that Kyle thinks something is up with Paxton.
“So there is no way to get a hold of Sheila or Elias?” asks Kyle to Paxton.
Paxton looks at Kyle, gathers his thoughts, and answers Kyle, “Nope, they get in touch with you.”
Kyle feels that Paxton is hiding something and for some reason Paxton is not willing to help him and Kristina reach Sheila or Elias.
“Is it okay if I use your bathroom?” asks Kyle to Paxton.
“Yeah, it’s right next to the living room,” answers Paxton.
“Yeah, your house is the same layout as ours,” replies Kyle.
Kyle goes into Paxton’s house and makes his way into the living room and he sees that Pete is not in the living room anymore and neither is the satellite phone that was on the end table.
Kyle looks around Paxton’s living room and kitchen and he finds both rooms empty.
Kyle hears someone talking upstairs and he tries to listen in on the conversation.
“We should be fine, they are only taking people that they find antibodies in their blood,” says Pete to someone as he walks down the upstairs hallway.
Kyle hears Pete go into an upstairs bedroom and close the bedroom door.
Paxton walks into his house through the back patio sliding glass door and Kyle feels the need to hide, but he doesn’t see anywhere to hide, and he decides to go out Paxton’s front door.
Paxton hears his front door open and he shouts, “Pete is that you!”
Paxton walks towards his open front door and Pete walks down the stairs and asks Paxton, “What?”
Pete and Paxton walk out their open front door and they see Kyle standing near a SUV that is parked in front of their house.
“What are you doing Kyle?” asks Paxton.
Kyle turns towards Paxton and shouts, “Just talking to my brother and his wife!”
Kyle turns back towards Kiran and Evelyn, as they sit inside Kiran’s SUV and Kyle says, “Something is definitely up with Paxton.”
“He’s coming this way,” says Kiran to Kyle as Paxton walks over to Kiran’s SUV.
Paxton notices that Kiran’s SUV is loaded with boxes and bags and he asks, “Going somewhere?”
“Yeah, heading out for a while,” answers Kiran.
Paxton looks at Kiran with a questioning expression.
“Well, be safe,” replies Paxton and then Paxton starts to walk back towards the front of his house.
Kristina walks by Paxton and over to Kyle and asks, “Everything okay?”
“I’ll tell you later,” answers Kyle.
“Can you give us a lift back home?” asks Kyle to Kiran.
“Yeah, get in,” answers Kiran.
“Nice talking with you this morning,” says Kyle to Paxton as Paxton stands on his front porch and he looks at Kiran’s SUV.
Kyle and Kristina get into Kiran’s SUV and Kiran drives back to the Sinclair home.
“What were you doing in there?” asks Kristina to Kyle as Kiran drives down the street.
“Paxton has a satellite phone and I heard Pete talking to someone about blood antibodies,” answers Kyle.
“Is that who they are taking around base?” asks Kristina.
“I think so,” answers Kyle.
“Who was Pete talking to on the phone?” asks Kristina.
“I don’t know,” answers Kyle.
Paxton goes back into his house and he closes his front door. Paxton sees that Pete has the satellite phone in his right hand and Paxton tells Pete to give him the satellite phone.
“Who are you ca
lling?” asks Pete as he hands Paxton the satellite phone.
Paxton answers, “Sheila and Elias.”
CHAPTER 7
DAY 47
“It was nice that Kiran left part of his electronics here,” says Kristina to Kyle as they stan in Kiran’s old bedroom that is now Kaden’s new bedroom.
“Why are you two in my new room?” asks Kaden as he lays in his large queen sized bed.
“It’s nine thirty, wake up,” answers Kristina.
“Why can’t you set that thing up in your room?” asks Kaden.
“Quiet, what did we say about being careful about what you say in here?” answers Kyle.
Kaden rolls over in bed in disgust.
“Any answer from Kiran?” asks Kristina with a quiet tone.
Kyle shakes his head no and answers, “Maybe he’s still getting settled back in their house.”
Kyle puts the headphones, that are connected to the radio, down on the small electronics table that is inside Kaden’s room.
KNOCK! KNOCK!
There is a loud knock on the Sinclair’s front door.
Kyle looks at Kristina and then Kyle stands up from his chair.
KNOCK! KNOCK!
Another loud knock is heard on the Sinclair’s front door.
Kyle walks down his stairs, while Kristina stands at the top of the stairs.
Kyle looks through the peep hole in the front door and Kyle says, “It’s three soldiers.” Kyle slowly opens the door, and the lead soldier asks Kyle, “Are you Kyle Sinclair?”
“Yes sir, is there a problem?” answers Kyle as he sees that the three soldiers are heavily armed and in tan military fatigues.
“No, I need everyone in this house to come with us,” answers the lead soldier to Kyle.
Kristina doesn’t know what to do as she stands at the top of the stairs.
“Where are you taking us?” asks Kyle to the lead soldier.
“To get tested,” answers the lead soldier as he stands in front of the two other soldiers on the Sinclair’s front porch.
“There are seven people in this house,” says one of the soldiers, that is standing behind the lead soldier, as he looks at a large black tablet that is in his right hand.
“Two of the people here left, we only have five now,” replies Kyle.
“That’s fine, but everyone in this house is coming with us right now,” responds the lead soldier as he steps towards Kyle.
