“You alright?” he chuckled.
“I’m fine,” she insisted as she pulled away and straightened her billowy tank-top and sunglasses. “Would have been nice to have a little help before I nearly broke my ankle, but I figured I couldn’t expect as much from someone like you.”
And just like that, Zac was over those dazzling eyes and back on the defensive.
He stomped past the passenger door, wrenching it open before continuing to the driver’s side. “Get in,” he commanded. “I don’t plan to spend my entire night babysitting.”
Jo complied without a word. She squished as close to the passenger door as possible, her arms crossed tight over her chest, even her knees crossed. She despised him, and Zac wasn’t a fan himself. This served her right—if the woman would take a little accountability instead of blaming everyone else for the situation, he’d probably be a lot more willing to help out.
Melting into traffic, Zac turned up the radio without consultation on her tastes, and found he was regretting pressing charges in the first place. The more tension that built in the cab of his truck, the more Zac felt he was the one who was being punished more than Josephine.

“Gem, did you say his name was…Adam Nelson?” Blair rested a hand over her forehead as her stomach took a turn for the worst.
Gemma nodded. “Yeah. Attorney, rich, drool-worthy bachelor. Want me to go on?”
Blair bit her bottom lip as dizzying heat rushed to her cheeks. “He’s sexy stranger.”
“No.”
Blair nodded vigorously so her curls slipped from her tight bun. “How did I not recognize him?”
Gemma snorted behind her palm. “Do you know what this means?”
“Yes.” Blair was moments from vomiting. “I woke up to a man I’ve despised for over a decade.”
