Heartbreak And Past Mistakes Page 23

“Come set your alarm,” he told her as he headed back to her bedroom.

Lyric wanted to do like the cartoon characters did when they jumped up in the air and clicked their heels. She tried to act like she didn’t care but she was happy as hell that he didn’t leave. Once she set her alarm, she went back into her bedroom. Bronx had stripped out of his clothes and left them right on her bedroom floor. Lyric wanted to go off on him but she let it fly. She picked everything up and threw it in the hamper where her dirty clothes went.

“Am I really about to wash this nigga’s clothes? Is the dick really that good? Yep, it sure is,” Lyric asked and answered herself out loud.

She grabbed a night shirt from her drawer and went to her bathroom down the hall to take a shower. If she wasn’t so pissed with Bronx, she went have joined him in her master bathroom. Lyric couldn’t understand how he was mad at her and he was the one who started the bullshit.

Once she was done in the shower, Lyric moisturized her skin and went back to her bedroom. She stopped right there in the doorway when she saw Bronx lying in her bed naked with his erection sticking straight up in the air.

“Take that shit off and come show me how much you missed me. I know that’s why you got that stupid ass attitude,” Bronx said as he looked over at her.

He was her drug, but she didn’t know how she got hooked so fast. Lyric was usually a tough shell to crack but she was vulnerable and open with Bronx, a man that she barely knew. It was crazy because her connection was deeper with him than it was with the men who she’d been with way longer. Some things just couldn’t be explained and their relationship was one of them. It felt right and she didn’t want to overthink anything. Without giving it a second thought, Lyric pulled her shirt off and climbed on top of him just as he requested. As soon as he entered her, everything in her life was right again. Her stressful days at work didn’t matter and neither did her past failed relationships. Lyric had never been interested in bad boys before, but she just couldn’t shake him.

“Kiss me,” Bronx demanded as he sat up on his elbows and looked at her bouncing on top of him.

“I’m still mad at you,” Lyric noted as she twerked on top of him like she was getting paid at the end of the night.

“Shit, I know you are baby,” Bronx moaned.

“Apologize,” Lyric demanded as she tightened her muscles around him and moved a little faster.

“Damn girl, I’m sorry. I swear I’m not fucking with nobody else Lyric,” Bronx said, mad with himself for sounding like a bitch.

He hated the sound of his voice as he moaned and begged her to forgive him. Lyric was spoiled and he wanted to spoil her even more. He wanted to take care of her mentally and physical and whatever she wanted was hers. He was gone and he wasn’t trying to fight it. Bronx had never been afraid to fall in love and he wasn’t ashamed to admit that he was in love with Lyric. Truthfully, it had never happened that fast before but there was nothing that he could do about it. Some things just couldn’t be put into words and him being with Lyric was one of them.

“Good Morning.” Lyric smiled when she walked into the office.

She was all smiles and she had a lot to smile about. Mr. Malone was back from his vacation and he was catching up on all the appointments that she had to reschedule for him. The receptionists were back to working like they should be and she hadn’t had any more complaints from the attorneys. Even things with her and Bronx were going good. Two weeks had passed since their last argument and they hadn’t had another one since then. He made it his business to see Lyric every day, even if it was only to take her out to lunch. He didn’t always stay the night at her house, but that was fine with her too. As soon as she got to her office and put her things away, Lyric went to Mr. Malone’s office to see if he needed anything.

“Just the person that I need to see. I need coffee in the worst way. Find the biggest cup you can and fill it up,” Mr. Malone requested.

  “Rough night?” Lyric asked.

“You have no idea. I stayed up all night trying to catch up on paperwork. I don’t know how I ever made it before you started working here. I can’t believe that I forgot to cancel all of my appointments,” Mr. Malone sighed.

“You have too much on your plate. You’re only one person and you need to relax a little. Give somebody else some of that responsibility. You can’t run all those offices by yourself. You need to hire some help,” Lyric suggested.

“Are you offering?” he asked hopefully.

“Absolutely not,” Lyric said as she started to walk away.

“The pay is good!” he yelled after her.

“I already get paid enough,” Lyric laughed as she rushed out of his office.

As soon as she walked into the hall, Elise, the attorney who was helping Mary, stopped her. Elise was the only white female attorney at the firm. She was a damn good lawyer and she took pride in what she did. She didn’t always win her cases like Javier did, but she always gave it her all. She genuinely cared about her clients and that was rare.

“Lyric, I was just coming to see you,” Elise said as she stopped in front of her.

“Hey Elise. How’s it going with Ms. Mary’s son?” Lyric asked.

“That’s what I was coming to see you about. She’s swearing that her son has only been arrested twice for misdemeanors, but I’m seeing something different,” Elise said as she held up a thick folder.

  “What is that?” Lyric questioned.

“His criminal record,” Elise said as Lyric’s mouth fell open in shock.

“Are you serious? No wonder Javier said that he couldn’t help her,” Lyric replied.

“That arrogant son of a bitch probably wouldn’t have helped her anyway. But, this is a copy that I got from his case file at the courthouse. I’m gonna put in a written request to get the originals from the prison. You know how Orleans Parish is though. Poor thing will probably be locked up a year before they even get back to me. I might need your help,” Elise said.

“Okay. What can I do?” Lyric asked.

“If I can get a judge to sign off on it, I can get the records a lot sooner. You think you can get Mr. Malone to pull some strings to make that happen? It would really help out a lot if he can,” Elise replied.

“Yeah, that shouldn’t be a problem. I wonder why he’s lying to his mama like that though. She’s getting herself all worked up and his ass is playing games.” Lyric frowned.

“I’ve seen this happen a million times. Some parents like to turn the blind eye to what their kids are doing and some kids hide who they really are. No worries though, I’ll do my very best to get to the bottom of it,” Elise promised.

“Thank you so much Elise. I’ll talk to Mr. Malone in a minute. Keep me posted on everything,” Lyric said.

“Sure thing.” Elise smiled before she walked away.

Lyric went to the break room and fixed Mr. Malone’s coffee before bringing it back to him. She talked to him about what Elise needed and he assured her that he would look into it. Once she got back to her office, Lyric talked on the phone with Bronx for a little while before she got started on something that Mr. Malone needed her to do. About two hours had passed and it was almost time for lunch. When her phone rang, Lyric thought that Bronx was calling to say that he was outside. She smiled when she saw that it was Kierra calling instead.

“Hey favorite cousin,” Lyric smiled when she answered the phone.

“Yeah right. It seems to me that Nova is the favorite now. That heifer is moving on up like the Jefferson’s,” Kierra replied jokingly.

“Both of y’all are my favorites, so don’t even go there. And bitch you already got a good paying job,” Lyric reminded her.

“You know I’m just messing with you. I met Nova’s new man honey. He’s handsome,” Kierra said.

“Yeah and he’s a sweetheart. I’m happy for her,” Lyric replied.

“So am I. We’re next cousin. Our husbands are out there somewher
e but I hope mine hurry his ass up,” Kierra laughed.

“You and me both,” Lyric agreed.

“But anyway, I have a surprise for you!” Kierra shouted loudly, making Lyric move the phone away from her ear.

“Damn bitch. What’s going on like that?” Lyric inquired.

“I just got us third row seats for the slow jams concert. You know Mint Condition and a few of our other favorites will be there,” Kierra said excitedly.

“Aww cousin. Somebody already invited me to go,” Lyric replied.

“I know you fucking lying!” Kierra blurted out.

“I’m sorry cousin, but he got the tickets a few weeks ago,” Lyric noted.

“He? You got a man that you ain’t telling nobody about?” Kierra questioned.

“You know how I am Kierra. We’ve only been kicking it for a few months but it’s been cool,” Lyric admitted.

“You really need to stop doing that Lyric. What if something happens to you? We won’t even know who the last person was that you were with. I’m all for being private, but what you’re doing is dangerous. I get that you’ve been burned by friends before but we’re family,” Kierra pointed out.

“Well, I considered Jena family at one time too,” Lyric reminded her.

“Considering a bitch to be family is one thing but we’re blood related. You know I would never do anything to hurt you and neither would Nova. Just stop shutting us out,” Kierra pleaded.

“Point taken cousin. I’ll introduce you if we see you at the concert,” Lyric promised.

“Oh bitch, you gon’ see me. I’m making it my business to come find your ass,” Kierra laughed.

“It won’t be hard since we’ll be on the front row. It just depends on what side you’re on,” Lyric replied.

“Aww man. Now I have to find somebody else to go with. I might see if Nova wants to go. I can’t let her know that she was my second choice though,” Kierra giggled.

“Your secret is safe with me. But, I have to go cousin. I’m about to go to lunch,” Lyric said when she saw that Bronx was calling on the other line.

“Okay cousin, talk to you later,” Kierra said before hanging up.

“Hey boo,” Lyric cooed into the phone when she answered for Bronx.

“Bring your fine ass out here and bring your house keys,” he requested.

“Why? I thought we were going out to lunch,” Lyric replied.

“I already got your lunch, but all I’m trying to eat is you,” he said, making Lyric cross her legs at the ankle.

“I’m on my way,” Lyric replied as she hurriedly grabbed her purse.

She locked up her office and hurried out to his car. Her lunch was only supposed to be for an hour, but she never did go back to work. Once Bronx finished with her, she slept all day and most of the night. She wasn’t complaining though. That was one of the best lunch breaks that she’d ever taken.

  Chapter 22

“Throw that ass back and stop playing with me,” Bronx growled into Lyric’s ear while pulling her hair.

Lyric had ass for days and he loved to watch it jiggle as he hit it from the back. He was watching her through the mirror and her fuck faces were the sexiest that he’d ever seen. Lyric had her hands up against the wall as Bronx stood behind her and put in work.

“Not too loud Bronx. Somebody might hear us,” Lyric replied.

“Man, fuck these people. I’m trying to get it,” Bronx said as he lifted her leg up and went even deeper.

“Oooh shit, baby. I’m gonna cum again,” Lyric moaned.

Macy’s fitting room served as their makeshift love nest and they had been in there for about twenty minutes or more. They were supposed to be shopping for the concert that was in two more weeks, but they never made it out of the first store. They had already purchased what they wanted to wear from Saks but Bronx wanted to go to Foot Locker too. They entered the mall through Macy’s and had been there ever since.

“What the fuck are you doing to me, Lyric?” Bronx questioned as her eyes met his in the mirror.

“Trying to make you fall in love,” Lyric said with a smirk.

“Too late,” he replied seriously, not returning her smile.

Lyric couldn’t pull her eyes away from his. There was something in them that she couldn’t quite recognize. They were talking without words and their connection was amazing. When they both came, it seemed as if they were one and that was the best feeling in the world. For Lyric, it was also scary.

“I need to find a bathroom. I can’t be walking in the mall with your cum draining out of me,” Lyric laughed.

She was happy that nobody was in the fitting room when they walked out of there. She purchased a pair of underwear and used the feminine wipes that she kept in her purse to freshen up. Once they made a few more purchases in Macy’s, they went to Foot Locker to get what he needed. As soon as they walked through the door, Lyric wanted to walk right back out. Standing there holding the hand of a pencil thin white girl was her ex-boyfriend Bradley.

Lyric stared at him for a while, wondering what the hell she ever saw in him. Brad was built like an old man and his hairline looked like one too. He was dressed like a retired golfer and he wasn’t even thirty years old yet. Lyric was hoping that he didn’t see her. If he did, she was praying that he wouldn’t say anything to her. She was too embarrassed for Bronx to know that he was one of the men who had broken her heart in the past. That was over five years ago, but Brad looked so much better to her back then. He treated Lyric like a queen, so maybe she was leading with her heart and not her eyes. Sex with him was good but, then again, he was her first. Maybe she thought he was so good because she didn’t have anyone else to compare him to.

The girl that he was with looked just as plain as he did. She had on a pair of black rimmed glasses that she kept pushing up on her face. Her floral dress looked too big and she had to be no more than one hundred pounds on a good day. Her back and her ass connected like they were one and the same and her chest was flat like a little boy. Bronx was holding Lyric’s hand tight and she was happy that Brad’s back was turned. As soon as they walked by him, he turned around and Lyric’s eyes connected with his.

“Lyric?” he asked like he wasn’t sure.

It was as if someone had called Bronx’s name too because he stopped and turned around before she did. The fact that Brad even spoke to her had Lyric in her feelings. She didn’t fuck with him and it had been that way since the day she found out that he was sleeping with her girl, Jade. Lyric wasn’t surprised to know that he’d done Jade the exact same thing. Last she heard, her former friend had dropped out of college and was being a punching bag for her baby’s father.

“Fuck off,” Lyric snapped after a while.

“I see not much had changed over the years. You still got that same ghetto mentality with the mouth to match,” Brad snickered.

“Who the fuck is this nigga?” Bronx asked Lyric.

  “He’s nobody,” she replied.

“Bradley Johnston is the name. I’m Lyric’s ex-boyfriend,” he said proudly as she cringed.

His girlfriend looked Lyric up and down and tugged at her dress self-consciously. She and Lyric were total opposites, right on down to the color of their skin.

“Get the fuck outta here. You used to fuck with Urkel. I can’t even see it,” Bronx said as he laughed uncontrollably.

“Okay Bronx. Don’t keep reminding me,” Lyric smiled as she tried to hold back her laughter.

“Why am I not surprised that you ended up with a thug?” Bradley questioned.

“You know you don’t want these problems, so chill out slim. Seriously though, baby? The nigga got on a long sleeve shirt with tight shorts and flip flops. The fuck is really going on,” Bronx said as he fell out laughing again.

“Come on, so we can get your shoes and go,” Lyric replied.

Her heart started beating fast when Bronx walked over to Brad and stood directly in front of him. Brad looked scared out of his mind,
even though he tried to play it off. When Bronx braced up to him, Brad flinched and so did his girlfriend.

“Pussy ass nigga jumping more than his girl. Go next door to Old Navy and buy you some more flip flops. Foot Locker is a man’s store,” Bronx laughed as he grabbed Lyric’s hand and walked away.

Brad almost ran out of there and his girlfriend was right behind him. A few men who were watching everything unfold clowned him as he was leaving the store. Brad wasn’t a street nigga, so he was probably pissing in his pants by now. He came from a wealthy family, so he didn’t know anything about the streets.

“Did you really have to do that?” Lyric asked Bronx with an amused smirk. She was actually happy to see Brad get punked and she wished she would have recorded it to show to her cousins and mother.

“Fuck that nigga. I can’t believe you even dealt with a lame like that,” Bronx said, shaking his head.

“I was young and didn’t know any better. I’m sure you have a few people from your past that you want to forget about.”

“Nah, not really. I only fuck with bad bitches,” Bronx replied.

  “Nigga please.” Lyric frowned.

“None as bad as you though. You got everybody beat and that’s real shit,” Bronx said as he looked her up and down lustfully.

“Whatever Bronx,” Lyric said while rolling her eyes.

“Why do you always doubt everything I say? You always think a nigga lying.”

“That’s because all you niggas do is lie,” Lyric countered.

“Don’t put me in the category with them other niggas. See, they were the pots and pans but I’m the chef,” Bronx said.

“Stop always spitting that bullshit Bronx. I don’t need you to tell me; I need you to show me. I could care less about what you say to my face. Be loyal behind my back if you want to impress me,” Lyric replied, giving him a lot to think about.
