  About the author Kiki Ward

I was very fortunate to have been selected and hired as a flight attendant by American Airlines in 1986.

I was initially based at Chicago and transferred to Dallas Fort/Worth a year into my flying career. From Chicago and Dallas/Fort Worth I flew domestically and also to destinations within Canada and Mexico. I was proud to be awarded “The Professional Flight Attendant Award” by American Airlines and was also selected to work aboard professional sports team charters and to represent American at numerous celebrity and charity events around the country.

I was among the inaugural group of flight attendants asked to open American’s then new Honolulu, Hawaii base in 1990. From the Honolulu base I flew internationally to Australia, New Zealand and Europe. An entire new world of opportunity was opened to me the day I was hired as a flight attendant. I’ve met and worked with so many great people throughout my career and have logged literally thousands of flight hours both while working and while enjoying travel on my time off.

I’ve been truly blessed to have been a part of the magical world of aviation for so many fun and won-derful years. I certainly count among the best times of my life the time I have spent flying all around the world with the elite group of professionals called flight attendants.

  The twenty- four hour clock

All airlines operate on the twenty four hour clock or military time. All operating schedules are in the twenty four hour clock format. As a flight attendant you will have to know the twenty four clock as well as you know regular time. Some airlines will test your basic knowledge on the twenty four hour clock during the interview pretesting.

  Worldwide city codes

Every city throughout the world serviced by an airline has a designated three letter indentifier or city code. These city codes are always used when referring to a specific city. As a flight attendant you must know every city code for every city served by your airline. Trainees are required to memorize these codes as part of their training. It is important to note that not each city code listed will need to be learned and there will certainly be some not listed that may have to be learned. The following is simply an overview of common cities throughout the world to begin to assist you with the process of memorizing them. Some airlines will test your knowledge of common city indentifiers during your interview pretesting.
