  Though we don’t speak about marriage, I’m sure neither of us has any intentions of going anywhere. Why would we when we’re so happy together?

  I’m glad Curtis finally went full-on batshit crazy and tried to kill me. At the time, I was terrified, but that shooting incident led me to the man I think I wouldn’t mind staying with for the rest of my life. If not for the shooting, Seth and I wouldn’t be a couple now.

  Sometimes I sit and imagine how different my life would have turned out had Curtis not tried to kill me. Most likely I would’ve taken him back—I always seemed to do that. And, if I’d taken him back and he hadn’t tried to shoot me, we would still be arguing about what clothes I wear, with whom I can talk and what friends I’m not allowed to have and why.

  If I ever do see Curtis again, I believe I’ll thank him.

  My accidental protector has now turned into my purposeful lover.

  I would have it no other way.
