Tina looked at him and kept a straight face, “It’s okay Alex.”
Alex panted and dropped the gun. The man smiled and opened the door.
“I mean it! Follow me and she gets it!”
He pulled Tina out of the house along with him and closed the door.
“I’ll be damned!” Alex murmurs.
As soon as the door closed, Alex ran, grabbed his gun, and rushed to the door, but Chris grabbed his arm.
“No.”
Alex snatched his arm from Chris’s grip, “What the hell do you mean no?”
“Not this way. He’s going to be looking for us. We need to go out the back.”
Alex swung the door open and looked for Tina, but she was nowhere to be found. Alex started breathing heavily and Chris walked behind him to calm him down.
“Alex, we will find her.”
“We have to find her! Where is he taking her?”
“I don’t know, but we will find her.”
Alex scoffs and walks away.
“Where are you going?”
“To the camp. If anyone’s there, we can get help and find her. Before it’s too late.”
“Why not go now? We can sneak up behind him and take him by surprise.”
“He’s going to kill her if we do!”
“He might do that anyway.”
The man kept yanking on Tina, but she was resisting him; snatching her arm from him as he struggled to keep her close to him. He turns around and points the gun at her head,
“Be still!”
The sound of zombies roared through the sky and that frightened the man, forcing him to drag Tina into another house. As he runs into the house, Tina finally gets free of his grasp and tries to run, but he grabs her arm and throws her into the house.
“Get the fuck in the house!”
Tina falls on the floor and gets up, running up the stairs and screaming to the top of her lungs. The man looked behind him and watched her run upstairs. He slams the door and looks for Tina, but he doesn’t know how many zombies they had just attracted.
Alex continues running towards the camp, but Chris can’t keep up with him. While running, a zombie noticed Chris and screeched into the air. Alex looks to the side and sees many zombies headed towards them.
“Chris, come on!” he shouts.
“I’m trying!”
They ran closer to the camp, but the closer they got, the closer the zombies were. Alex turns around and shoots the zombies in the head, but Chris kept running. He had a gun in his hand, but he didn’t want to turn around and shoot. He just wanted to stay alive for the moment. Upon entering the gate, Alex looks for a way to climb up the gate, but there was no one there to open the gate. Chris looks behind them and exhales loudly as he starts shooting the zombies to buy them time.
“Hey!” Alex hits on the gate, but no one was near it.
Alex looked at the post and noticed someone had to be in the neighborhood. Suddenly, Alex heard noises coming from inside the gate, but there was no time. The zombies were closing in fast.
“Fuck it!” Alex says as he begins to climb the gate.
He finally gets to the top of the gate and looks around. People stared at him and did nothing. Alex ignored the chatter behind him and reaches for Chris.
“Get up here now!” He shouts.
Chris runs out of bullets and jumps up to reach Alex. Chris climbs, but he didn’t go fast enough. His life ended at this moment. A moment that will guilt Alex and the civilians in the neighborhood for the rest of their lives.
“So, you want to try and save this woman?” Sam asked.
“Yes. Her name’s Tina. Maybe you know her?”
Sam's eyes widened in relief. With surprise. With confidence. This news made Sam feel great inside. There was finally something to fight for and he began to shake.
“Tina?” he asked nervously.
“Yeah, why? You know her?”
“That’s my mom!”
Alex got excited also because he knows that Tina has been giving up hope, but will get the good news that her son is alive,
“She wanted to come find you, you know. She was going to find a boat and come looking for you.”
“Where is she?”
“I don’t know. He can’t be far though.”
Alex walks out of the house and goes towards the gate, but people surrounded the gate, shooting down at the zombies surrounded the gate. One of the people came up to him,
“I hope you’re not planning on leaving.”
“Why not?”
“Can you not hear? They are surrounding the gate. There’s nowhere to go!” He explains.
“There’s always a way out. Do you have weapons?”
“Yes, we have a tent around the corner where we stashed weapons. I can show you.”
He handed Sam a machete, “This will do some use for now.”
“Thanks.”
Jess and the others, including Alex, walks behind him towards the tent. The man opened the tent and there were weapons everywhere. There were two tables in the center with guns on them and melee weapons laid beside the tables.
“Choose what you like.”
Sam looked around and spotted an ACR laying on the table in all its glory. Sam picks it up and holds it in his hand, “Nice.”
Jess and the others picked up weapons also. Jess got two pistols, David picked up a shotgun, and Faith picked up an AK-47. Trace picked up an assault rifle and chuckled while admiring the gun.
“You guys ready?” the man asked.
“Yeah. We’re good.”
Sam and his group walked up to the gate, but the people in front of the gate stepped in front of them.
“What the hell are you guys doing?” one man asked.
“Open the gate!” Sam yelled.
“But they will get inside!”
“No, they won’t!”
The men moved to the side while one of them walked towards the gate.
“As soon as the gate open, get ready. There is plenty of us to kill all of them!” Sam explains.
Everyone nods their heads as the two men brace to open the gate. As soon as they opened the gate, the zombies came rushing, but Sam and his group fought back. Brain by brain, the zombies’ heads exploded by the shots Sam and the group fired. The other two men helped and they finally killed every zombie outside the gate. They made a big pile in front of them and the civilians within the camp just stared at them. There were some people murmuring and whispering to themselves, thinking how a small group of young people could take out that many zombies in a second. Trace and Michael walks up to Sam,
“Hey, Sam. We’ve decided to stay here. We could protect them while you’re gone.” Trace said.
“You sure?” Sam responded.
“Yeah, these people aren’t that bright. They need people who’ve been through it a lot longer.”
“It’s only been about a week.”
“Yeah, but look at what we have been through in just one week.”
“Okay.”
Sam ran out of the gate and looked around for Tina. Alex stops midway and stares at Chris’s body, but it was barely recognizable. Alex starts to blank out again, but Sam kept him from doing so,
“Hey! Come on.” He says.
Later, Sam runs to the nearest house and goes inside of it. Everyone gets inside and Alex closes the door.
“Why are we in here?” Faith asked.
“I need to know where she was last time you saw her.”
“Uh…it was about a block down from here.”
“Okay. You will lead us there.”
Alex nods and they continued to run through the streets. Minutes later, they finally make it to the spot Alex last saw Tina.
“Okay, he had her right here. Then he just…took off.”
“Where did he go?”
“I don’t know, but I’m pretty sure she went that way.” He pointed.
Sam continued walking to where Alex pointed and the rest caught up with him. He lo
oked around, worrying where he might be and anxious to finally see her after all he’s been through. The sound of zombies alerted them to be careful, but suddenly they heard screaming.
“What was that?” Jess asked.
Sam ran towards the sound, but the rest of them tried to stop him. Sam looked at the house that the sound came from and figured Tina was in there. The house was above five houses down, but the zombies were seen running ahead of them.
Tina runs into a room and closes the door quietly. The man walked around the room carefully and listened for any noises.
“What is this shit? Hide and seek?” He shouted.
He began to walk upstairs, stomping on every step. Tina panics and rushes to the window. She begins to open the window, but the man burst inside and runs to her.
“Leave me alone!”
Tina hurries up, shoves the window up, and crawls out. She falls on the roof of the house, but the man grabs her arm and pulls her towards him. She struggles to get away from him, so she grabbed the window and slammed it on his arm multiple times. He screamed in pain and alerted Sam that someone was in the house.
“Cover me!” he yelled at them.
Jess and the others stood in the street and waited for the zombies to get close before killing them.
Sam kicks the door open and runs upstairs.
“Mom!” he murmured.
“Sam!” Jess shouted.
The zombies drew closer to them and they immediately started shooting them. As they were shooting, Alex noticed that many more of them were coming.
“Get in the house!”
Alex pushed all of them inside and closed the door.
“Be quiet!” he whispers.
Sam ran into the room and seen the man struggling with Tina.
“Mom!” he shouted.
Sam rushed to the man and forced the blade through his back. Tina gasps when she saw a knife burst out of his chest and looked into his eyes as he coughs out blood on Tina. Sam pushes him out of the way and smiles at Tina. Tina's eyes glowed with happiness when she saw Sam, but at the same time, shocked. She never knew Sam would kill anyone in his life. He was too good for that. A part of her was frightened by at the same time.
“Sam?” she cries.
Sam pulls her back inside and they hugged. Jess runs into the room and watched Sam and Tina stand there hugging each other. They ignored the outside world. This was a moment that they wanted to themselves.
“I thought you were dead.” She cried.
“I’m not giving up that easily.”
Tina laughs and lets him go. She rubs his cheeks and smiles at him, but Alex ruined their perfect moment,
“Uh, guys! They’re coming!”
Alex looked at Tina, “You’re okay.”
Alex walks up to her and hugs her.
“Thank you.” She whispers in his ear.
Sam heard zombies and rushed downstairs. He went up to one of the windows and looked out. Many zombies, far too many to count, were running and shrieking as they focused on Sam looking out of the window.
“Oh shit. Get upstairs! Now!”
The zombies ruptured through the window. Some of them were being cut by the glass while others fell over. Sam ran upstairs with the others, but he stubbed his toe on the steps and fell. One zombie charged after him, but he held the machete up and pierced the zombie through its neck. The blood was gurgling out of its neck and spilling on Sam. He throws the zombie off him and continues running up the stairs. They all ran back into the room and slammed the door.
“Okay, we’re going out of the window. Put that dresser in front of the door!” Sam commands.
Tina thought to herself about what happened last time when someone asked to put a dresser by the door. The memories of Beth dying frightened her. Alex and David slide the dresser in front of the door right before the zombies came hitting the door.
“Shit! Not again!” Alex screamed.
“What do you mean?” David asked.
“I’ll explain later.”
He and David leaned against the dresser to keep them from getting inside while Tina and the girls got out on the roof.
“Move!” Sam said.
Tina, Jess, and Faith moved as Sam hits the window out with his knife and crawls out of the room. He put his hand in the glass and grunts because he cut himself. Alex also starts to experience déjà vu from the time Beth died. They were in this exact situation and that scared him. He didn’t know if he or David were going to make it. David shakes him out of his thoughts,
“Come on! We got to go!”
David runs towards the window and Alex followed. David jumps out and rolls off the roof, but Sam was quick enough to catch him before he fell.
“I got you!”
Alex gets out of the window and moves away from it while Sam held on to David as he dangled over a couple of zombies.
“Come on!” Sam grunted.
Alex and Jess helped Sam pull David up onto the roof and he lets out a large exhale as soon as he got up.
“Thank God. I thought I was a goner just then.”
“You’ll be alright.”
“Uh…guys.” Faith said as she walks to the top of the roof and looks around for a clear spot to run, but they were surrounded. Trapped, yet again.
“There’s no way to go now. They’re everywhere!” she sighed.
Sam looked around and smacked his lips, “Damn!”
The zombies finally got through the door and shoved tried to shove themselves through the window. Sam jumped and moved away from the window as they screeched and swung their hands at them. Everyone went to the other side of the house and Tina grabbed Sam’s hand with fear. Sam looked into her eyes and told her everything was going to be fine. Tina nodded her head and let him go. Alex looked around for an escape plan, but he didn’t have one. Suddenly, he knew a way for all of them to survive, but it was a huge risk.
“Hey, I have an idea. What if you guys can clear a way for me to get inside of the house? That way I can find some towels and alcohol.” Alex explains.
“What?” Sam asked.
“It could work.” Tina realized, “that’s what happened when we met up with another group! They used fire to get away from them. It could work!”
“Even if, how can you get in there? We’re pretty much trapped here.” Jess asked.
“I go back through the window. We can kill them now and I can go in and run to get the supplies.”
“It’s crazy,” David responds, “but it could work. You can’t go by yourself though. I’m coming with you.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah. I can handle myself.”
They all agreed to the plan. Sam and Jess walked up to the zombies in the window and killed most of them in the front. Afterward, they pushed the dead zombies back and killed the next batch. They all came in waves, but Sam and Jess managed. Faith came and helped which made them finish a lot faster. There were no more zombies left in the room and Alex and David hopped back into the house and continued downstairs. While walking, Alex moved slowly to avoid being seen by any other zombies that may be wandering around within the house. He moved downstairs slowly and looked around for any zombies. When he saw none, he ran into the kitchen and grabbed a towel. He looked around for any drink while David kept watching.
Sam gave the plan a long thought and he got up and walked to the window.
“What are you doing?” Tina asked.
“We can go. Instead of being on the roof, possibly get ourselves trapped again, we could just go out the front door and fight them then. It seems like they’re all gone from inside the house anyway.”
“He has a point,” Jess agrees.
“No! I can’t let you do this Sam.”
“Mom, please. Let me do this.”
“I can’t lose you again.”
Sam grabs both of her arms and stares deep into her eyes, “Mom, you won’t lose me and there is no time to argue. We do this now!”
Tina get
s up and walks with Sam as they went inside the house. Jess and faith followed them afterward. Sam walked into the house quietly and looked for David.
