Hunter's Revenge Page 24

Mel wasn’t back at work, but she was well enough to attend the service. Jane stood to make sure she got a seat.

Heinrich Reinbold was there. Now he was the only surviving member of his family.

Superintendent Graham Miller, MBE, volunteered to give the eulogy. He spoke for thirty minutes, without notes, remembering George and his contribution to fighting crime in his adopted country. It was a fitting tribute.

“Thanks for delaying the service, Boss,” Jane said to Hunter. “It means a lot to Rache and me to be here.”

“Of course, I understand, Jane,” Hunter smiled.

  “And me, Boss.”

“Mel, are your parents ever going to forgive me?”

“You, yes. Saleh, not this side of Hell,” Mel laughed.

“George will be buried here, so we can visit him, if we need his guidance,” Meera said.

“At least I know the old bastard is dead and gone. May he rot in hell,” Heinrich said.

“George didn’t deserve that,” Meera said to Hunter.

“No. But Merkel, Saleh, Squires and The Lizard deserve absolutely everything that’s coming to them.”

“And the single Scottish Police Force comes into being next month. Exciting times.” Meera smiled.

Hunter sighed. “Yes it does. I’m not sure I’m ready for that much excitement.”

  Hunter’s Force will follow soon.
