Preface
All Comes Down
Pit
Voices ring out with laughter and a bunch of shit talking. Engines rev around me, excitement is thick in the air. I’m in my element as the adrenaline pumps through my veins. I get off on the power of a good drag race.
This isn’t for everyone and not everyone should try it. Each driver here tonight knows the risks. Some take it serious, others, not so much.
Me, I’m tasting the reward. It’s time to pay my tuition and this race is going to cough up the purse to make that happen. The beast I’m leaning against is going to ensure that. My Viper has been feeding me well in the last few months.
My father can suck a dick with his threats to cut me off. I don’t want shit from his drunk ass anyway. One day none of us will need him.
I’ve raced everyone here before. Well, with the exception of one. I narrow my eyes on the newcomer.
“Pit,” Abby growls, punching me in the arm.
“What?” I turn and snap.
“Why the hell do you keep staring at her?” she snarls pointing her finger.
“Maybe it’s because she’s the only girl out here trying to drive. Or it could be because she’s black. Where the fuck did she get the money for a ride like that. She better have the money to cover the fucking purse,” I mumble the last part and cross my arms over my chest.
Abby’s blue eyes nearly pop out of her head. She looks at me like I’m shit. “You’re such a fucking asshole,” she hisses. “God, what do I see in you?”
“My fat eleven inch cock for starters. Not to mention the money you suck out of my pockets when you finish draining my dick,” I say and shrug, turning back to the black chick with the sweet pink and black Aston Martin.
“Fuck you, Pit. You’re such a dick.”
I don’t turn to watch her storm off on those too high heels as they click loud enough to announce her exit. She’ll be back. She always comes back.
“Better have my cash, Pitman,” Kelex crows as he walks pass.
Joshua Kelex. I hate his fucking ass. Entitled sack of shit. His family has more money than they know what to do with. He’s also the only one out here who could threaten me walking away with my money tonight.
“Fuck you.” I flip him the bird.
His laughter fills the air, but I’m already focused on the black chick again. Seth is the organizer of this shit. He doesn’t let just anyone drive. This girl must of either wet his dick or she has skills.
I lower my eyes to her fat ass and thick hips. Yeah, she wet his dick. Lucky bastard. Never fucked a black chick, but I’d definitely slide in that ass.
Just as the thought crosses my mind, she turns and looks over her shoulder. Oh shit, she’s gorgeous in the face too. This is the first time my view of her features hasn’t been blocked. Yeah, I’d totally fuck her.
“All right, all right,” Seth calls out. “Let’s get this party started. I got studying and shit to get to.”
The crowd whoops and drivers start to climb in their cars. I push off the driver’s side door of my ride and go to climb in. That is until one guy starts to spew his own shit.
“She’s not racing with us. She has no business out here,” he growls.
“Doesn’t matter either way. Your ass is still going to lose,” Kelex claps back.
“Fuck off, pretty boy. No one’s talking to you,” Jeremy replies.
I can see this shit is about to get heated. I don’t like Kelex, but of all these assholes out here I loathe Jeremy. He’s a self-centered, reckless prick. If you ask me, he’s the one that shouldn’t be on this track.
Fucking douchebag.
“Well, I’m talking to you,” I say rounding my car. At six three, 220 pounds, I’m not the first guy Jeremy is going to swing on. “Shut the fuck up and get in your car.”
“Hey! All of you can shut the fuck up and let your engines do the talking for you,” someone hollers behind me.
I’m already headed for Jeremy to kick his ass. I don’t get halfway to his car before he pulls a face and starts to climb into his vehicle. Just like I thought, bitch.
When I turn back for my
own car, the black chick catches my eye. “Thanks,” she mouths.
I shrug and get in my ride. I didn’t do it for her. I did it so we can get this show on the road. I have my own books to hit.
We pull up to the start line. Deacon Clarke shoots in front of me and sticks his arm out his window to flip me off. Asshole.
“Yeah, fuck you too,” I mumble and shake my head.
Jeremy and Kelex box the new girl in before I can pull up beside her. I pull up on the outside of the three cars lined up and Luke Reynolds takes the other end. I don’t fuck with his ass either, but he stays to himself and that’s fine with me.
I turn to look down the row. This will be a piece of cake. Abby will be on her knees sucking my cock while I count my money within the half hour.
I snort. I’ll probably be picturing the new chick. Those pretty lips bobbing down my length will be a great fucking view. Damn. I shake the thought off.
Head in the game, Pit.
I turn back for the two chicks Seth has strutting around in heels and booty shorts. I laugh at their skinny asses trying to look sexy. They take their time giving a show to the crowd before they get to flagging the damn race.
By the time the flags drop, my scalp is tingling with anticipation. I bare my teeth and step on the gas. Tires squeal, smoke billows behind us and we’re off.
I keep my focus on the finish line, eating up the road before me. We’re halfway down the stretch as I glance to see a few of us have pulled away. The new chick, Jeremy, Kelex, and I are all neck and neck. Deacon and Luke are hot on our heels.
I’m timing my move. I’ve got this. New girl starts to creep ahead, and I grin. Nice ride, but it’s not beating my baby.
I put the pedal to the metal and leave them all in my dust. I laugh my ass off as I cross the finish line. That is until the sound of a collision greets my ears.
I squint into the rearview mirror. “What the fuck?”
It’s like it’s happening in slow motion. Kelex’s car flips through the air, bouncing on its sides a few times. The back side of new girl’s car looks like she took a hit. It’s facing toward the starting line, while Jeremy’s ride is facing the other way. The front of his car is completely smashed in and catches fire.
I’m stunned for a few moments before I turn my car around and head back to the scene. I get there just as new girl struggles to pull open the driver’s side door of Kelex’s turned over car.
She gets it open and drops to her knees to climb inside. Jumping out of my car, I run to her side.
“Get back,” I demand. She’s too small to get a big guy like Kelex out.
When she pulls her body back out of the car, I see the blood dripping from her head. “Shit,” I say, tearing off my shirt. “Put this on your head and get back.”
A loud sound comes from the front of the car. I’m running out of time. I glance toward the crowd who had been gathered to watch the race. They’re all bailing. Except for one car heading our way.
“Shit,” Luke curses on the other side of the car. “We need to get him the hell out of here.”
“My leg, my fucking leg,” Kelex screams inside the car.
I duck inside to see flames have started to eat through the floor of the car and are burning Kelex’s right side. Fuck. I have to get him out. He’s awkwardly reaching for the seat belt with his right hand. That’s when I notice his left arm is bent at an odd angle at his side.
“Please get him out. He was protecting me,” the chick sobs outside the car.
“Dude, I need you to relax. I’m going to get you out,” I say to Kelex.
His panic isn’t helping me get him out of the seat belt. Luke’s bitch ass has disappeared. I work to get the seat belt loose by myself. I reach into my boot for my knife.
I flip it open and take my words back about Luke when he reappears with blankets. He tries to throw them on the fire around Kelex’s legs. Finally, I cut Kelex out of the seat belt.
“Fuck, fuck, I’m on fire,” Kelex bellows.
“Help me get him out,” I yell.
Deacon appears at my side and starts to help me pull Kelex free. Luke rounds the car with the blankets in hand. Frantically, he beats the fire off Kelex’s legs and side. The entire time Kelex continues to scream and plead for help.
I’m sweating like a motherfucker. I know we’re working with seconds here. We all need to get away from this car. This is one of those times I should’ve minded my own business like everyone else.
An explosion goes off. We all duck down, Luke with his martyr ass, throws his body over Kelex’s. I’m all about covering my shit.
I look at the car we just scrambled from but it’s not Kelex’s car that’s up in flames. It’s Jeremy’s. This is about to get bad. Dead bodies are never a good thing.
“Oh God, he was still in there,” the girl cries out. I turn to see one of the potheads who comes to campus has shielded her with his body.
“Fuck him,” Deacon snarls. “He caused this shit.”
I clench my jaw tightly. I didn’t see what happened but if Deacon is right, that fucker put everyone’s life in danger. Karma’s a bitch, ain’t she?
“Let’s get him in my car. We all need to get out of here,” I say as I scoop my arms under Kelex’s.
“We have to take him to a hospital,” new girl says.
“You need to get the fuck out of here. Anyone connected to this shit is going to jail. Go,” I bellow at her.
“Shit, you’re bleeding,” Luke says.
“Shit,” I mutter.
Deacon and I rush Kelex into my car. He’s no longer conscious. We get him in the back seat, and I turn for the girl.
“Can you still drive your car away from here?”
“Yeah, that guy only clipped me after. He took the impact for me,” she replies, pointing at Kelex in my car.
“One of you follow her to somewhere safe. You on the call list?” I ask her the last part.
Seth has a call list for all of the drivers. We’re all saved by nicknames. I’m thinking fast as the sirens sound in the distance.
“Yeah, I’m Skittles,” she says.
If this shit weren’t so serious, I’d burst into laughter. I continue to bark out orders as a plan forms in my head. “I’ll get someone to you for your head. I’ll have them text you. All of you, get your cars out of here. Lie low.”
“And you?” the chick says.
“I’m going to be the lowlife my father says I am. None of you were here. None of you know what the fuck happened. I’ll get him to the hospital. This is all on me, I’ll take this one.”
“You can’t do that,” she says.
“Already done, sweetheart. Now get your ass the fuck out of here before I change my damn mind.”
Chapter 1
We’re Through
Pit

Two months later…
“It was nice having you here, Pitman,” the CO says as I walk past him. “We’ll see you again soon.”
I toss up my middle finger. “Tell your wife daddy’s on his way home,” I call over my shoulder.
“Son of a bitch,” he mutters.
It’s been two months in this hell. These fucks have been trying to break me from day one. Wrong motherfucker.
I’m ready to get my ass out of here and go home. Home. That is if I have one of those. I know for a fact I’ve lost my apartment.
I shake my head and focus on the old man with the gray hair waiting for me at a bench table in the yard. My last visit before I get out of here. I stop before him and place my knuckles on the table, letting my muscle flex as I lean in.
His guys go to move in, but he lifts a hand to halt them. I have no beef here, but I want to make it clear I’m not intimidated. When I leave these walls, I’m not taking orders from no one, just as I haven’t in here. If I have to fuck them all up to make that point, I will.
“You wanted to see me?”
He gives a light chuckle. “This is why I like you, kid
. You have balls and I honestly don’t think they come from your daddy’s pull,” he says and watches me closely.
I narrow my eyes. “I’ve never said who my daddy is,” I reply.
“You know who I am. You don’t have to tell me shit. I’m here because of that son of a bitch.”
I straighten to my full height and fold my arms over my chest. I never know what I’m going to get once my father’s name enters the picture. The district attorney himself is a slimy bastard with more skeletons in his boozed-up closet than a serial killer.
My father is as dirty as they come. Dropping his name can save your ass one day and have your head the next. He’s right, I haven’t relied on my father or his pull while in here.
Lord knows, he hasn’t offered any help—until now that is. I’m finally getting out of here. Two fucking months and the bastard has just decided to remember I exist. I bet he thinks this is some type of fucking lesson.
“So, is this your way of saying I’m not getting out of here because of some debt he owes or some shit? Sins of the father and all that. Fuck him, I’m not that son.”
