Wrapping his arms around Peyton’s slender frame, Ezra placed them in his lap and, between sweet, barely-there kisses, let everyone know how much he loved his spouse, how lucky he was to be chosen by them as a life partner. The black-haired man held Peyton close to him, treating them lovingly, caressing their face and kissing their temples and forehead.
Looking at the scene his nephew and their spouse were offering, Fabian was moved to tears by the demonstration of love between the two young men. Too busy with keeping himself isolated from his family, he only recently found out the details of Ezra and Peyton’s love story and admired them both for the courage, resilience, strength and determination they showed in the face of adversities.
“Hey, daydreamer. Where does that mind of yours wander? It’s the third time I’ve asked you the same question. Three more, and I quit. I’ll assume your answer is no.” Lance’s playful voice brought Fabian back from his melancholic thoughts into the happy present.
“I’m sorry, I should have paid more attention to you, but the scenes from earlier made me think about all the time I foolishly wasted, instead of using it the right way. What was your question, once again?” A sweet, apologetic smile tugged at the corner of Fabian’s mouth, giving him a vulnerable air.
“Will you be my husband? I promise to hold you tight, comfort you and make you happy for the rest of my days. Tasty, nourishing, homecooked food is included in the offer.” Lance was grinning, but the other man could sense the fear of rejection hidden behind the light-hearted tone of his voice.
“Yes. I’ll take you as my husband, with or without homecooked food, because you are everything I didn’t know I needed in my life. Also, I publicly admit I was an idiot who wasted an awfully long time looking for happiness when it was right under my nose. And, in case you still wonder, I love you, Lance Hanson, with everything I have, had and will have.”
As the two men shared their first kiss in public, sealing their pact, from the corner of his eye, Ardan noticed his son Cian, the shiest twin, sweetly kissing Soames, the young guard who was like his shadow, on the cheek, making him blush violently. Right above them, the mistletoe benevolently gave the two its magical blessing, making Ardan smile inwardly.
Lorcan, Cian’s twin, his father’s younger version, was listening to whatever his boyfriend Thorvald was whispering in his ear. The slightly older boy took one of Lorcan’s hands between his own, delicately caressing it, a serene expression on his face. After a short while, they left their seats, joining Riley and Rowan on the dance floor.
I, my beloved Spitfire, Ezra, Peyton, Lance, Fabian, my brothers, their soulmates and all the others—will do everything in our power to protect the innocent and helpless. Lorcan, Cian, Thorvald, Riley, Rowan and the other kids in the bunch will keep the hope alive. Thanks to them, the dream will live forever, and Christmas will continue to be a time of magic and miracles for lots and lots of children.
Ardan’s eyes became incandescent as he looked around the dining room, his heart filled with a mixture of joy and confidence. We’ve come a long way, he thought. Merry Christmas, everyone!
