BEAUTY AND THE BADGE

“Please, please,” I beg, my only thought about how badly I want to come under his tongue. Unwrapping his arms from around my waist he moves his hands down and grabs my ass. Controlling my movements, he picks up the intensity as I rock against his mouth.

“Yes, oh, right there!” I cry, coming so hard that I forget pretty much anything that isn’t my name or his.

I’m still quivering when he taps me on the hip. “Turn around,” he says, his voice gravelly. “You’re going to suck my cock while I make you come again. After that, I’m going to give it to you slow and deep.”

I was tentative about the whole sixty-nine thing the first time he had me do it, but like everything else he’s introduced me to, I love it. That’s why I don’t argue when I turn, awkwardly, to face his beautiful cock. Once I’m comfortable with my position I wet my palm with my tongue and then wrap my fist around his length. He inhales sharply as I ever so slowly begin to pump my fist up and then down his cock. Leaning forward, I trace my tongue over the tip.

“Good girl,” he praises, his voice rough.

I repeat the motion several times, making sure that he’s good and wet before I take him into my mouth. I pop off and lick the head again but lose my train of thought for a second when he grips my ass and guides me back onto his wicked, amazing tongue. Needing him to feel as good as I do, I take him back into my mouth and begin working my head up and down. He groans as he sucks my clit and just that little bit of a vibration sends liquid fire racing through my veins. I work faster, making sure to swirl my tongue over the head of his cock every time I come back up. When he slides two fingers into me, I know it won’t be long before I come.

Determined to make him feel as good as I do, I stop sucking and focus on what I know will bring him close to the edge. Shuttling my fist up and down his cock, I wiggle my tongue against the vein below the head. The grip his hands have on my ass grows firmer with each movement of my tongue. The minute his fingers start rubbing against my special spot I know my time is about to be up. Sucking my clit back into his mouth, he lashes at the hood with his tongue. Arching my back, I tilt my head and cry out as I peak.

He doesn’t wait for me to come down from it. Instead, he turns me so that I’m facing him. “Ride me,” he says as he guides me down onto his cock. I let out a sharp breath as he fills me, my sex still spasming from my orgasm. Setting my hands on his chest for balance, I start rocking up and down.

“Fuck, you’re beautiful,” he groans, his heated eyes focused on my tits and the way they bounce as I ride him.

When he reaches up and starts tweaking my nipples, I start to move faster. Moaning, I clench around him as I get closer to coming.

“Your pussy feels so fucking good. Love the way you take my dick, baby.”

  “God, Tyler.”

The things he says in bed are incredible. I feel stimulated in every way. His filthy mouth, the smell of his skin, the way he tastes, the feeling of him inside me, and the intensity of the expression on his face make me wild. When he reaches between us and starts rubbing my clit with his thumb, I cry out as the most incredible release slams into my body.

I’ve just started to come when he flips me over so that I’m on my back. Hands on my hips, he holds me in place as he slams into me. Raking my fingers down his back, I let out a silent scream when I feel the heat of his release inside me. We’re both out of breath when it’s over.

Eventually he rolls onto his side, taking me with him. With my head on his shoulder, I relax and enjoy the way he holds me. Once again, I feel treasured.

Being with him and feeling the way I do is something I want to experience for the rest of my life.

  CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

  ASHLEY

I’M SURPRISED WHEN Boo isn’t at the door when I let myself into Tyler’s house. Shrugging, I figure she’s probably down at Millie’s being spoiled with snacks and belly rubs. I swear the dog has bionic ears where Tyler’s truck is concerned. It’s been about six weeks since I started coming over every night, so she’s probably still getting used to my car.

Heading into the kitchen, I open the fridge to take out the steaks we bought at the market last night. I want to put the spice rub on so that they have time to marinate before he gets home. We normally leave work at the same time but there was a call from the marina about two cars with bashed in windshields, so he went to take the report.

After setting the steaks on the cutting board I pull out the meat tenderizer and hit them a few times on either side. Once that’s done, I set the steaks on a piece of tinfoil, season both sides with the rub and then seal it up so that the flavor will be stronger when Tyler comes home and puts them on the grill. Crossing to the fridge I open it and bend down, pulling the crisper drawer open so I can take out a few ears of corn. Closing the door, I let out a muffled shriek when I come face to face with Rita, who is standing a mere three feet from me.

My anger is immediate. Throwing the corn onto the counter, I point at her. “Are you crazy? Why would you just walk in here?”

The way she grins is unsettling. “I didn’t walk in,” she says, her tone cocky.

God, she’s always been such a bitch with her stupid games and the way she draws things out. “Let me guess, you flew,” I say, my tone snippy.

The way she smiles is very Cheshire cat. She’s playing with me, and she’s enjoying it.

  “Actually, I crawled.”

Something about the way she says that makes my stomach clench. “What?”

“Are you stupid? I said I fucking crawled,” she snaps.

My brow furrows as I try to make sense of her words. “You seriously crawled?”

“Came in through the dog door,” she answers, her smile smug.

My heart starts beating faster as what she’s just admitted works its way through my head.

“You came through Boo’s door,” I say, my voice flat.

“I did. Tyler overcompensated with that, by the way. He could’ve done with a smaller door. If he had, I might’ve had a harder time getting in.”

Smiling, she looks me over. “Of course, you’d have no idea what that’s like. No matter the size you wouldn’t have been able to get your fat ass in. I’ve been eating a thousand calories a day since high school, so it was easy for me.”

I can’t wrap my mind around the fact that she’s standing in front of me in Tyler’s kitchen talking about doggy doors and calories. She’s always been a nightmare, but until this moment I’ve never actually feared her. Crawling into this house and boasting about it freaks me out. A lot.

“Oh, don’t worry,” she says, like she’s answering a question even though I didn’t ask one. “I only gave the dog half a sleeping pill.”

  “You drugged Boo?”

She shrugs like she just told me she forgot her wallet or something trivial. “I had to. I’ve been watching the two of you out there with her at night when you walk her. Animals are loyal to begin with but Malamutes are pack animals. She’d fight to protect her pack, and I can’t have that.”

I’m not freaking out anymore. I’m officially scared.

  “Why are you here, Rita?”

I do my best to sound calm, but even to my own ears the wobble in my voice is obvious.

“Tyler Jameson ruined my life. I’m here to return the favor.”

“By breaking into his house and drugging his dog?”

The smile that spreads across her face is chilling.

“No. That was just one of the things I needed to do to get you alone. Like having my mom smash car windshields over at the marina so that Tyler would be out on a call.”

When I take a step back, she takes one forward. I take another, and she comes closer.

  “Stop fucking moving,” she bellows.

I’m about to defy her and move back, but when she raises her right hand, I see that she’s holding a knife. It’s the kind hunters use. My grandfather and Rob’s dad had similar knives fo
r their yearly vacation to Montana to hunt deer.

“Yeah, now you see,” she boasts, her expression full of pride. “Your man thought he could come up against me, but I’m not taking things lying down. I gave Ronald the best years of my life and how did he thank me?”

I shake my head, not knowing the answer.

“He left me out of his will,” she spits. “Do you know how hard it was to pretend to enjoy riding his gross dick? Or what it felt like to have to give him head on demand?”

Seeing that she wants me to respond, I shake my head again. “No.”

“It was awful,” she says, her voice stony. “I gave myself up for money and in the end, I got none. My mom suggested I move back to this dump and find another sucker. It wasn’t a bad plan. It’s tourist season, and I should have been able to work my way into one of the mansions on the good side of town by now.”

Stopping, she lets out a frustrated scream. Startled, I take another step back. “I said don’t move!” she shrieks.

I stop, putting up my hands in supplication. “I won’t do it again.”

  “See that you don’t.”

Bringing the hand with the knife up, she traces it over my jaw. She’s not rough about it but she’s not careful, either. I hiss when she nicks me, my fear ratcheting up another level.

“I had what I needed to make living in this town easy as pie,” she says as she drops her hand back to her side. “All anyone had to do was stay out of my way. It was working until you came along and ruined it. Because of you, Tyler and his piece of shit sidekick Ben decided to confront me and that’s when things turned bad.”

The look on her face when she mentions Tyler and Ben is chilling. Seeing my reaction, she smiles.

“Ah, yes. Benjamin Gates. I’ve got a little something up my sleeve for him, too. Once I take care of you, his little crush is next. By the time I leave tonight, this town will be in ruins.”

“So you’re…” I swallow, unable to get a full sentence out. Taking a breath, I try again. “You’re going to what? Kill me? Kill Meghan? You won’t get away with it. You aren’t a murderer, Rita. Yes, you’re angry and yes, you want to lash out, but I don’t believe for a minute that you’re a killer. You don’t want to go to jail.”

“You sound so certain that I’m not a murderer,” she says, her tone thoughtful. “Today you’re going to learn that people are capable of things you’d never expect. This isn’t my first rodeo, A-cup.”

I’m dimly aware that blood is dripping down my neck from where she nicked me but right now I’m so busy staring at her in astonishment that I can’t be bothered to lift my hand and wipe at it.

  “Your first rodeo?”

“I was through with Ronald. Done with his gross pubes, the stench of Paco Rabanne, and the way he insisted on leaving the door open when he took a shit. Animals have better manners than that pig. I wanted to keep the money but be rid of him. It seemed so easy… I should’ve remembered to make sure I was in his will. If I had, everything would’ve been perfect. He was allergic to peanuts. Fucking peanuts, for chrissakes. It was almost too easy to slip a little powdered peanut butter into the shitty, full-of-sugar-and-calories milkshake mix he used every afternoon at work,” she boasts, smiling at the memory.

“I made sure his Epi pens got left behind when I sent him off for the day,” she says, her tone prideful. “The plan was perfect, but there was still risk. How was I to know he was fucking around with an intern? He died while she was on her knees under his desk blowing him while he drank his shake. His business partners made the scandal of a partner going at it with a twenty-year-old intern from the wrong side of the tracks go away, which suited me just fine. No one ever asked why he didn’t have his epi pen. They didn’t ask where he got the shake from. In the end, it was like taking candy from a baby. I literally got away with murder.”

I’m appalled and terrified but also blazingly angry. “You won’t get away with it this time,” I tell her. “No one is going to clean up after you, accidentally or otherwise. Tyler and Ben will hunt you down and when they do, you’ll spend the rest of your life in prison.”

“We’ll see,” she says, laughing darkly.

As she laughs, I hear something in the distance. It takes a few seconds for me to place that it is the sound of a police siren being switched off.

Tyler is coming. I can feel it. I keep my expression neutral, hoping that she didn’t hear it too. When she doesn’t react, I know she didn’t. All I need to do is stall her long enough for him to get here.

When she abruptly stops laughing and focuses on me, the hairs on the back of my neck stand straight up. “This was fun but now you’re boring me, A-cup. I’ve got someplace to be after this. Poor Meghan’s been tied to a bench in my mom’s attic for a few hours. I’ve got to get back before she dies of natural causes and ruins all my hard work.”

I’m out of options, so I take a giant step back. Rita reacts quickly, coming at me with the knife held high. Ducking to the left so she misses me, I grab the meat tenderizer from the counter. I let out a scream when she stabs at me again, this time making contact with my arm. Holy shit. She just stabbed me. I’ve been stabbed.

Raising my leg, I kick her in the stomach. It isn’t hard enough to make her lose her balance and fall, but it was still worth it. All I needed was a second to get a firm grip on the meat tenderizer. When she lunges for me again, I bring it up and slam it into her face. There’s a sickening sound of something cracking, and the blood curdling scream she lets out, nauseates me. “My face!” she wails.

My arm is bleeding and it throbs like a bitch, but I can’t look at it. Losing focus could mean death, and I won’t risk it. When she drops the hand covering her face, there is blood spurting out of her nose. So that’s what I hit. I broke her nose. When she lunges for me again, I dodge right and hit her arm causing the knife to hit the floor. Just then, the front door flies open. Rita doesn’t hear it, though.

When she bends down and desperately grabs for the knife, I kick her square in the chest. She falls back hard, screaming. I barely notice because the most beautiful sight in the world is right in front of me. Tyler, Ben, Jana, and Riley Dowd, one of the officers who works the shifts I’m never around for, have their guns drawn and trained on Rita.

“Put your fucking hands up!” Ben bellows.

Rita tries, but apparently I jacked up her arm when I hit her with the tenderizer. Realizing that I don’t need to hold it anymore, I drop it onto the tile.

Now that help has arrived and I know I’m going to live, I’m woozy as hell. “Ashley!” Tyler yells as he sprints toward me.

Digging my fingernails into my palms, I force words out of my mouth. “Meghan. She has Meghan at her mom’s house. Attic. Hours. Hurry.”

  And then I faint.

  ASHLEY

I WAKE UP in an ambulance on the way to the Charlotte’s Cove hospital to find Tyler holding my hand. When my eyes open, he lets out a long breath.

  “Thank fuck. You okay, babe?”

I nod, even though I’m confused. Turning, I look at what’s happening on the other side of me. My arm is being bandaged by an EMT I recognize. “Mr. Falls? I thought you retired.”

“I’m too young to retire,” he jokes. “I still work two days a week because it means I get to keep my benefits and I’m not driving Felicity crazy by being home all the time. My guess is that she and Millie will be calling the hospital like mad-women from the time you arrive to when you leave for updates on your status.”

I frown, feeling a little loopy. “Why am I going to the hospi—”

Then it all comes back to me. Rita. Boo. Meghan. My eyes fly to Tyler’s. “Are Meghan and Boo okay?”

“Meghan’s fine. Ben took off to be there with her. Abe is with Boo and the vet is on the way.”

  “Is she all right?”

He nods. “She will be, yeah.”

  I can’t belie
ve that Rita drugged that sweet dog. Then again, nothing Rita does should surprise me after what happened tonight.

“You had your siren on, but you switched it off before you got too close. You knew she was in the house, didn’t you?”

His jaw ticks as he nods. “I wasn’t positive, but I was pretty damn sure. The cars at the marina belong to Mayor Brown and Mr. Yang. There was no way that was a coincidence. I realized you’d be on your own when I took the call, and that didn’t sit well. When I tried to call your cell and you didn’t answer and the house phone was busy, I knew. I pulled up stakes at the marina and took Ben, Jana, and Riley with me. I wasn’t taking any chances with your safety.”

  “Thank you,” I whisper.

He frowns. “Don’t thank me, babe. Fuckin’ with her in the first place is what led to this.”

I squeeze his hand. “No, her being crazy is what led to this.”

“Agree to disagree. Proud as hell of you though,” he praises. “Had no idea my woman was so kick ass. You had her on the ropes before I arrived with the cavalry.”

“How bad is Rita?” I ask, curious but not concerned.

A dark smile spreads across his face for a few seconds. “Babe, you jacked her up. Broken nose, fucked up elbow. She’ll be charged and moved from the hospital to the county jail in Seattle before the night is over. I already told them there was no way we could hold her over until trial and there’s no way she’s getting bail.”

“I need to give a statement. She confessed to killing her ex-boyfriend.”

Tyler’s eyes go wide. “She did what?”

Taking a breath, I tell him everything.

IT’S FUNNY HOW the imagination works. When Rita stabbed me the pain was so sharp I’d been sure I was going to require a blood transfusion. Not only do I not need a transfusion, the gash required only eighteen stitches. I took that as good news, but Tyler looked about ready to spit nails when Dr. Nelson said how many he’d used to close the wound up.
