The Reject Rescue Page 8

by George H. McVey

An hour later, Jackson had Roxy in his arms his lips pressed to hers. When he let her up for air, she put her hand on his cheek and said, “I knew you’d find me, Just like you promised.

He lifted her into his arms like a groom carrying his bride, which he was. Placing his lips close to her ear, he whispered for only her to hear. “I will always come for you my love. Do you know why?”

  “Why?”

“Because I couldn’t live without you. I love you now and forever my beautiful bride.”

Then his lips were devouring her again proving his words as true.

  The next day

Jackson woke with a start then he sighed at the weight of his Roxy’s pretty blonde head laying on his chest. It took another hour to asses the flight crew's injuries and get everyone loaded into the helicopter. They had flown everyone to the hospital in Vancover, which was slightly closer than Anchorage and after Phil, Joe and Susan had been admitted. Roxanne was cleared to go home. Gordon and Rudy wasted no time sending one of the resorts luxury helicopters to bring Jackson, Roxy and Pinga home.

The rest of the day had been them fending off questions from the press, talking to Roxy’s parents who were suddenly singing their new son-in-law’s praises. And finally sinking into the large garden tub and washing each other clean before cuddling in the bed together.

Jackson and Roxy spent several hours celebrating the miracle of Roxy’s plane crash. There were so many unbelievable things to their story that the press decided not to run with it. But Clarice and Evelyn came by the next day with a funny-looking balding man they introduced to the Cornilus’ as their favorite clean romance writer. He’d been signing books at the book store and had overheard Clarice telling Evelyn all about the miracles that seemed to pile up around that rescue. Apparently the author had his own run-in with Bob the rooster and the Ryder family and asked very politely if he could tell Jackson and Roxy’s love story. He promised to change their names and protect their privacy.

Roxy was so excited to have her romance told to the world that she had begged Jackson to agree. They had and the strange man smiled when Evelyn asked what will you title the book?

“Oh that’s easy,” the writer said pulling a coonskin cap out of his back pocket and placing it on his head. “Why the title all but wrote itself didn’t it? It could only be called ‘The Reject Rescue’.” Then shaking Jackson's hand and giving the three women a quick hug and a copy of a book he’d written titled “The Adventures of Bob the Rooster. That he’d signed of each of them. He’d left the island.

Jackson lay there watching Roxy sleep, and he started to wonder. Which was the Reject, Roxy or he and whom had really rescued who? But those are questions better left unanswered because Jackson is indeed a man of strength, and this author wouldnever answer for risk of running into him again.

  The end.

  About the Author

George McVey always wanted to be a superhero; sadly, no radioactive storms or animals have been a part of his life. One day while spinning a tall tale for his family, some suggested once again that with all his experiences in ministry, and his imagination, he should be writing books. This time it was like lightning struck him and he decided, why not.

Since then, George has been hard at work using his creative imagination and writing several books. He's still adding to his bibliography to this day. You can find them all on his Amazon.com page https://www.amazon.com/-/e/B007E39QUG.

George lives in the wonderful state of Almost Heaven, West Virginia, in a lovely creekside trailer with his wife of 33 years, Sheri, and a service dog named Daisy Mae.

If you ever come to visit him, you will probably find him sitting in his recliner or at his desk in the office working on some writing project. If he isn't working on a novel, he will be working on a short story or blog post. If he isn't doing either of those, then he is either asleep or eating, his other two favorite pastimes.

You can reach him by email at [email protected].
