Married to the Alien Admiral of the Fleet Page 28

Jei looked at Jane and said, “I can’t. All must be in attendance for the entire procedure. Jane please.”

Jane turned then and looked at her daughter and pleaded with James mentally to have Ellie taken out. She knew James could hear her thoughts.

  James just shook her head.

Jane closed her eyes as she thought about this. If she did this in front of Ellie, she would never forget it and it would possibly damage her forever. But maybe she was damaged forever from what had already happened that day, but all of that she could blame on the Empire and their strange justice system. This she would be doing voluntarily and would definitely look like she was enjoying it. She knew Jei would want to put on a show. His reputation had been damaged. If she allowed this to happen Ellie would forever remember her mother as the Alliance whore. No amount of explaining would change that.

Jane opened her eyes searching the arena looking for some kind of way out of this situation. She couldn’t think of any. Jei had the bracelet posed over her left hand. He was waiting for her to acknowledge her consent. Then she remembered the dream with Babette, and she wondered if she would really be made into a goddess.

Jane took a deep breath and stepped back from Jei. She made eye contact with him but didn’t speak for a minute then she said, “I cannot marry you here with my daughter in attendance.”

Everyone began murmuring that it went against the gods and that she must. She had proven herself worthy. Everyone wanted to see them happy. People began shouting for their marriage.

Jei almost had tears in his eyes, “Jane, Jane, my lovely Jane. It’s nothing. It’s sex. What are you talking about?”

Jane tried to explain, “My daughter is here, and humans don’t do this. We can’t.”

“The gods have put your daughter here so that you will prove to us you accept the Alliance in every way. Do you?” the High Priestess asked.

Jane looked at Jei with tears welling up in her eyes, “No, I cannot do this.”

“Mom, no, do it!” Ellie cried out.

Jane shook her head and looked at Ellie and said, “No baby, you be a good girl. I’ve always loved you so much. Remember what I did here today. And you remember, I’ve never been a traitor to humanity. I’ve always tried to balance both worlds.”

Jane got down on her knees then and put her hands behind her back.

Jei took his sword out, but before he struck her, he whispered in her ear, “Jane my sweet Jane, I will make sure that no one ever forgets you.” He stood then and said loudly, “Today I must kill my true other half as she refuses to be completely Alliance in the eyes of the law today. However, let the gods look upon her kindly as she knocks on their palace door. Let this be a new beginning.” Jei struck Jane down with one blow. He had killed so many times, but he felt like a good part of him died with Jane too in that moment. He got down on his knees and held her bloody body in his arms. He had loved her so much. He picked her up with her blood dripping everywhere and brought her over to her human daughter. “Say goodbye to your mother,” he ordered her gruffly. “She did this for you.”

Ellie screamed at the sight of her mother’s dead form being held by her murderer in front of her.

“Say goodbye,” he commanded her again and she did it only for fear of him.

Then Jei carried Jane’s body outside to Doctor Rea who was waiting with equipment to save the fetus and have it transferred into an artificial womb that would be looked after on the Kzi.

No female babies would be lost no matter what.
