Unearthly Realms Page 4

by Ron L. Carter

When they first arrived at Maggie’s house they went inside, but she wasn’t home. Ty told them he was going to wait for her to return. Markus told him they would wait with him until she got home. Not wanting to give Ty any hopes of staying with Maggie, Markus told him that when she did get home they would wait for him outside until he was ready to leave. Ty began to move through the house, just to check it out, as Markus and Holly followed. They went into the spare bedroom and saw all of Ty’s trophies he had from high school and junior college sitting on a dresser. Holly said, “Impressive. I didn’t know you’d been such a good football and basketball player during school.” Ty just smiled and replied, “Yea that was a long time ago.” They made their way into the master bedroom and went into the closet and saw that all of Ty’s clothes and shoes were still right where he’d left them. Even his toothbrush was still in the little holder above the bathroom sink. It had only been a short time since Ty had passed into the spirit world but since time had no meaning in that dimension it still seemed like it was only yesterday to Ty. Holly was smiling when they came out of the master bedroom and Markus approached Ty. With a boyish laugh he said, “So that’s where you did your magic.” Ty seemed to be irritated as he just looked at Markus and replied, “Come on man, grow up.”

Markus immediately changed the subject and starting talking about the trophies in Ty’s spare bedroom. When Holly asked him about them he began to tell them how he played varsity football as a wide receiver starting his sophomore year. He also played varsity basketball as a guard his junior and senior year of high school. He told them that that he also played football during college as a starting wide receiver for a few years. He was there until he broke his ankle during his second year. It took almost a year of therapy for him to ever get back to normal. He told them that injury ended his career as a college athlete. None of the pros wanted him after he broke his ankle because they feared he may do it again. They felt they would’ve given a scholarship to a possible sidelined player they weren’t able to use. Even though he had a college degree he decided to pursue a career as a firefighter.

They hadn’t been in the house very long when Maggie came through the door of the garage and set her purse on the kitchen table. Markus and Holly immediately excused themselves and told Ty they would wait for him outside. Ty could tell that Maggie was depressed by the way she walked in and just sat her things on the table. Also by the way she carried herself. She seemed lifeless and lethargic.

She left the kitchen and went directly into the bedroom and lay down on the bed. She curled up in a fetal position and began to quietly sob. Tyler followed her to lie down on the bed next to her. He desperately wanted to hold her and caress her and let her know he was there with her. He tried over and over again to get her to acknowledge his touch and his voice. He touched her hand and gently kissed her cheek, but he couldn’t get any type of response from her. Even though she couldn’t hear him, he spent some time with her telling her that he would always be there when she needed him and that he’d be watching over her. He felt that, although she couldn’t hear him, it was helping him understand the true magnitude of problems he was going to have keeping his promise to make contact with her. After trying in vain for quite some time he decided at that point there was no way he could make contact with her on his own. He knew he would have to leave her for now and find another kind of outside help or intervention. Maybe he could get it from a physic or medium.

He told Maggie good-bye for now and reluctantly joined Markus and Holly as they waited patiently outside for him. They both had their heads down and Markus looked like he was kicking dirt as Ty approached them. He said, “You were right Markus, I couldn’t make any kind of contact with her. It’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to go through, just watching her and knowing there was nothing I could do or say to her to get her attention. I’ll just have to come back once we all find out how to make contact with our loved ones.

Ty told Markus and Holly, “Before we go anyplace else and since we’re already here, I want to show you guys Cho’s kitchen. It’s where I used to hang out a lot when I was younger and it’s where I met Maggie.”
