Adversary - An OUTER HELLS Dark Urban Fantasy (The Tome of Testaments Book 1) Page 5

by Jeremiah Kleckner

A jogger ran along the path toward his car, a lean and fit woman in her fifties. She ran past his passenger window and continued uptown. Alvaro watched her and grew a little jealous of her ignorance. A part of him wanted to get out and run alongside her, just to talk.

He was lost in this thought when his phone buzzed again. He looked over at the seat, convinced that it must have been the Handler. They rarely wasted time and this one seemed to be as punctual as the rest he'd known. He picked up the phone and read the Handler's message. It was a location, nothing more.

Alvaro looked back up at the jogger, but she was gone along with the fantasy he had built around her. Just as well. There was little time in his life for distraction.

He took one last look at the row house on Hudson Street, then started the car and drove away. He had a lot of work ahead of him and Damon Nero was an adversary worth pursuing.
