During the next two and a half weeks, all of the girls’ free time was devoted to researching ways to banish paranormal presences. Fortunately, they had no more trouble from the poltergeist during that period. Unfortunately; however, Carrie and Paydon would have to attempt this task without the use of candles or incense, as was expressly advised, such items were banned in the residence halls at Marietta College. Paydon made due by reacquainting herself with minerals and herbs that could prove useful. Carrie was put in charge of acquiring the religious artifacts.

The evening before Halloween, the girls prepared a protective circle of herbs and placed the religious relics and minerals inside. Shortly before midnight they turned out the lights and performed a protection meditation within the circle. All they had left to do was to wait.

At the stroke of midnight, a roar erupted inside the room and drawers began opening and slamming shut. Terror was reflected in Carrie’s gaze, but they had planned for Paydon to do the commands as she was better able to keep her cool.

“Unknown being so bent on terrorizing, I command you to show yourself!” Paydon’s voice rang out loud and clear. This angered the being even more, as reflected in the furniture that had begun to fly about the room. Somehow the furniture managed to avoid the circle and the two girls within it.

Paydon gripped a silver necklace in one hand, and Carrie’s wrist in the other, and commanded, “I said, show yourself.” The poltergeist responded with a loud and terrifying roar.

Carrie interjected, “Show yourself, you coward, SHOW YOURSELF!”

Maniacal laughter peeled out as a dark and sinister figure with razor-sharp talons began to manifest itself. The next moment, the figure began trying to break through thier circle of protection.

“NO!” Paydon reprimanded, “You will NOT hurt us again! You will not be able to enter our circle! You are FORBIDDEN within this circle!”

That announcement merely irritated the being more. Carrie responded by splashing holy water on the figure, it hissed in seeming pain.

“NO! You will no longer be allowed within this world!” Carrie had taken over, “You are not wanted, you do not belong here! You are being sent to the netherworld where you will remain for eternity.”

For the first time, the figure made an almost articulate sound, “NOOOOOOOO!”

Paydon nodded the signal and the girls joined hands to banish this creature.

Their voices rang out in unison, “By the power of us and the power of all we believe in! You are not a part of this world! You do not belong here; you no longer hold power over us! Henceforth you shall be banished from this world, never to return! You are banished! No longer in this room, no longer on this earth will you terrorize, you are BANISHED!

The creature let out a pain sound as Paydon and Carrie began to chant. “By the power of us and the power in our hearts, we are sending you back to the abyss where you belong; never to return, never to terrorize, you no longer have power! You will no longer terrorize, no longer harm, you will no longer exist in this world. You are banished and powerless, you are banished, you are BANISHED!” With a blinding flash, the being was removed from existence.

Paydon Mallory and her roommate, Carrie, recounted their exciting tale to the R.A. and the rest of the first floor Elsie girls the following morning. As the story goes, room 103 in Elsie Newton hall has never had a problem with a poltergeist again.
