Kassia closed her eyes and lost herself to the sensation. His hands were rough, work-worn, not smooth like Travis’s. Warm and very capable, his touch excited her, his coarse skin stimulating her nerve endings, sending her arousal rocketing.
She tugged at the hem of his T-shirt and he held his arms up above her head as she slid it upwards, revealing his hard-toned chest with a smattering of gray hairs. Beck took hold of the T-shirt and threw it across the room before his hands dropped to his waist and he unbuckled his belt as she ran her fingers across his chest, his hair tickling her fingertips.
Leaning forward, she curled her tongue around his nipple before she slipped it into her mouth and sucked it hard. The breath hissed through his body and his hands cupped her breasts, continuing their torture of her hardened nipples. Heat crept through her body and she ached for him. Her inner muscles clenched at the thought of him moving inside her.
“Make love to me,” she whispered in his ear.
He turned his hand and captured her lips with his. Running his tongue along her lower lip, he pushed for access while he threaded his thumbs into her waistband and pushed her flowing skirt down over her hips. She’d worn a skirt and blouse, borrowed from Martha on their return because she wanted to feel feminine for Beck. But it wasn’t the clothes that made her feel like a woman. It was the man removing them.
Beck ended their kiss, his eyes on her face as he lifted her into his arms and lay her down on the bed, her head resting on the pillow. She grabbed his hand as he let her go and pulled him down to lie beside her before lifting his hand to her mouth and kissing the back of it. His eyes darkened with desire, sparking a fire in her belly that only he could quench.
Spreading her legs apart, she urged him to slide between her thighs. Beck guided himself into her, his thick hard length stretching her inner muscles as he filled her. He pulled back before thrusting forward once more. Harder, faster, his need to claim her overtaking him.
Kassia raked her hands over his back, urging him on as the events of the day and the fear of losing him came crashing down on her. She needed to feel him moving inside her, to know he was here, and he was safe, and he’d never be taken from her. It was as if a dam had split wide open and the emotions she’d walled up behind that dam were suddenly breaking free, swept away in an unstoppable flood.
She kissed his neck, nipping his skin as he impaled her on his hard length over and over. Her muscles ached as he twisted his hips and stretched her wider, the friction between their bodies pushing her arousal higher and higher until she couldn’t hold on.
Her orgasm hit her hard. Smashing into her like the ocean crashing onto rocks in a storm. Tumultuous and yet joyful, her climax came as a release. In that moment of pure bliss, she let go of her past and her feelings for Travis. What did his betrayal mean to her now? Nothing compared to her feelings toward Beck.
She let go of her fears for Beck. He was safe in her arms.
And she let go of her longing for a family and a husband to share her life with. Because she didn’t need to long for them any longer. Her future was here with the man she loved. A good man, a proud man, a loyal man.
Her man.
“I love you, Beck,” she whispered in his ear as his own orgasm subsided.
“I love you, Kassia. More than I ever thought I could love another person.” He chuckled, his voice throaty and low. “You’ve opened my eyes to what is important in life. I’ll never feel the need to wander the world again in search of myself.”
“Well, if you do…” She kissed his mouth. A soft sensual kiss filled with all of her love for this man who had taken over her life and made it new. “Just make sure you take me with you.”
“I promise.” And he’d never break his promise to his mate. She sighed. The love of a shifter.
How lucky was she?
Epilogue
“Harry,” Martha whispered to Hex.
“No,” Hex replied automatically.
Beck smothered a smile and squeezed Kassia’s hand. “How are you feeling?” They were seated at the kitchen table trying to make firm decisions on flowers and bridesmaids and all the other small details they needed to agree on over the wedding.
“Excited and nervous,” she admitted. “The wedding is in three weeks and I’m worried we’ll forget something.”
“Don’t be worried,” Hex told Kassia. “Martha has everything under control.”
“Apart from knowing my soon-to-be-husband’s name.” Martha nudged Hex. “Johnathon?”
“Nope.” Hex chuckled as Martha sighed in exasperation. “Why don’t you have a little patience and wait until the big day?”
“Speaking of the big day, we need to agree on a menu.” Kassia passed around a sheet of paper with sample menus.
“Oh, anything that’s filling,” Beck said. “I’m sure we’ll all be starving by the time the ceremony is over.”
“I’m glad to see you have your priorities right,” Kassia told her mate.
“Hey, I’m helping,” Beck said innocently. “There will be a lot of shifters at the wedding reception and they will need filling. None of that fancy stuff where you take one bite and it’s gone.”
Martha chuckled. “Beck might be right. I know how much Hex likes to eat.”
“I have a good appetite.” Hex grinned. “And you want me to keep my strength up for after the wedding.”
“Food and sex. That’s all our wedding means to you,” Martha’s eyes misted with tears and Hex’s expression faltered.
“No, it means everything to me. I can’t wait for you to be my wife.” He slipped his arms around her shoulders as Martha’s body shook. “You were teasing me.”
Martha nodded and kissed Hex on the cheek. “I just needed to hear you say it.”
Kassia smiled and glanced sideways at Beck, who rolled his eyes. “My little brother never grew up.”
“And here comes our older brother.” Hex looked toward the door leading outside.
“There’s no sneaking around with you guys, is there?” Kassia said as she listened for Mac’s footsteps. It was a full minute before she heard Mac’s approach.
The four people at the table all exchanged awkward glances. Talking about the wedding arrangements around Mac almost felt as if they were flaunting their relationships in his face. Kassia knew Mac was happy for them all. Really happy and yet there was a sadness in the oldest Winter brother’s eyes that he tried to hide.
In unguarded moments when he let his mask slip, Kassia’s heart ached for him. If she had one wish, above a long and happy life with Beck, it was that Mac would find his mate and one day know the same happiness as his two brothers.
“Hey there.” Mac lifted his hand as he walked in and cast an eye around the table. “Is this a war meeting or a business meeting?”
“Wedding stuff,” Martha said and shuffled the wedding menus and the other information they’d been looking at into a pile and covered it with a wedding magazine.
“Don’t stop on my account,” he told them as he walked to the fridge and took out a bottle of soda.
“We were kind of done.” Kassia frowned at the others. They weren’t done, but they had an unspoken rule not to continually talk about the wedding around Mac. Even though, for Kassia and Martha at least, it consumed their waking hours. Dreams of the wedding or, more often, wedding disasters also invaded Kassia’s sleep too.
“Well, if you are, I’d like to talk to the four of you.” Mac placed his soda bottle on the table and sat down in a chair at the head of the table.
“This sounds ominous,” Beck studied his brother as they waited for him to speak.
“It’s nothing bad. I just wanted to start moving ahead with the new houses.” He dug a piece of paper out of his pocket and spread it out on the table, it was a map of the forest surrounding the sawmill. “These are the two locations I thought we could build on. You can argue it out between yourself as to who gets which, but I think they are both prime spots.”
Hex and
Beck exchanged a quick glance before they leaned forward and studied the map. “You’re right, both locations are good.” Beck looked up at Hex. “You and Martha can take first pick.” He looked at Kassia. “If that’s okay with you?”
“Sure, I’m happy to live anywhere,” she replied. “Thanks, Mac.”
“My pleasure. I want you all to be happy. I also wanted this decided before the wedding. I figured we could begin getting plans drawn up and maybe even break ground before you go on your honeymoons.”
“Are you trying to get rid of us?” Hex asked lightly.
Mac’s eyes darkened and he reached for the piece of paper and folded it up before putting it back in his pocket. “No, just the opposite,” he replied with a sad smile. “I’m trying to make you stay.”
