‘Hold on a minute here. You got an email?’
‘Aye, why? Haven’t—’
There’s a fuckin’ email there! That doctor, the one in the hazmat suit. Swear this country’s health system is mental. The email’s like it’s come from my bank:
Mr Bain,
I write to you to confirm the results of the test for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), which you undertook at our facility on the morning of Friday March 20th, 2020.
I confirm that the test is Negative.
Additionally, I can confirm that our test is certified best-in-class and that international travel is allowed with the usual safeguards as recommended by your airline.
Finally, the symptoms you exhibited appear to be a result of fatigue to the point of exhaustion and excessive consumption of alcohol. Please seek medical advice upon your return.
Regards,
Dr Rosa Santiago, MD.
Cheeky cow.
I hand the moby over to the attendant. ‘Here you go, sweetheart. Safe to travel.’
And fuck me hard and fast. The rest of the world is dying of this fuckin’ bug and I’ve got a hangover.
Bain’s Kitchen
Free short story
Dear Reader,
I hope you enjoyed that third instalment of Cullen and Bain.
There will be a fourth along in October, entitled GORE GLEN, which is available to preorder now. It will be the last to be set around the pandemic, I swear. The fifth will be much more normal. Honest. I hope.
Anyway, I wanted to offer you a free coda to “Hell’s Kitchen”, entitled “Bain’s Kitchen”, in exchange for signing up to my Readers’ Club. If you’re already a member, then you’ll have received an email on the morning of release. If you can’t find it, then signing up again won’t break anything. Promise! And if all else fails, please email me at [email protected]
And how else are you going to find out in advance what happens to Bain’s career?
Get your free book at https://geni.us/EJBainsKitchen.
Hope you enjoy it and please take care of yourselves. It’s still a dangerous world and you’re not as invincible or lucky as Brian Bain.
