“I’m sorry I can’t remove those chains completely, but I promise that tonight I’ll make you forget they exist.”
He drew his face closer, and my lips parted, welcoming the warm touch of his. A shiver run down my back, weakening my whole body. He threw off his jacket, then took mine and dropped it on the floor, then he pressed his body against mine, taking my breath away. My hands run up his chest, and while my fingers were undoing the buttons of his shirt, his hands slid under my blouse.
“I don’t think I’ve shown you my bedroom yet,” he said into my ear in that low voice that always made me feel like I was his, and his only.
Two hours later, we were still in bed, and I moaned from the thought that I had to pull myself out of his arms and get up.
“Nate, it’s nearly eleven, we have to go back.”
“We’re not going anywhere.” He leaned over me. Sliding his hand up my thigh, he kissed me, and my eyes closed. “I promised you no chains tonight.” I felt his lips smile. He got up. “I just need my phone.”
He pulled on his underwear and went downstairs. I got out of bed, found his shirt, and put it on before following him.
“What are you doing?”
“Sending a message to Bree,” he said, getting the phone out of his jacket pocket.
“Great.” I shook my head. “What are you going to tell her this time?”
“Only the truth.”
“Huh?”
He sat on the couch, and I dropped down next to him. Nate typed the message, pressed send, and handed me the phone. There were only a few words.
Don’t worry, she’s with me. Don’t wait up.
“Oh my God, are you crazy?”
“We’ll find out in a minute.”
The phone lit up, and he bent over to read the reply with me.
No potions. And don’t break anything, I like that cabin.
“Really?” I rolled my eyes. “I need to remove myself from that friend finder.”
“Don’t. It’s much more fun this way.” He chuckled. “Do you want anything? Food, drink?”
“Do you have those things here? We didn’t bring anything with us this time.”
“I promised we’d come here for training, so I filled this place with everything we need a couple of days ago.”
“Do you think Gran can see us too?” I asked jokingly. “Because I would love a glass of wine.”
“You want me to cast a cloaking spell?” He raised a brow.
He kindled the fireplace, then turned off the lights, and with a swing of his two fingers, lit up about a dozen big candles sitting around the room.
“I love it when you do magic,” I smiled.
We sipped wine while listening to the drops of rain drumming against the big backdoor windows. Then he threw the blanket on the floor over the carpet, and we lay down in front of the fire.
“Are you ready for the next round?” he said, bending over me and running his hand over my belly.
“Nate,” I murmured, my hand gliding up his chest, “I was ready for every round the moment I laid eyes on you in the parking lot. You take my breath away just by looking at me.”
He closed his eyes. “I feel the same way every second I’m with you. And the moment you leave, all the lights turn off, and I’m left alone in the dark, with flickering images of you in my mind.” He brushed his lips against mine.
“I’m right here, and I’m going to say it now.” His heart hammered under my hand. My fingers slid up his strong arms to his neck and sank into his hair. “I love you, Nathan Cain.”
He opened his eyes, and from the way he looked at me, I knew he was mine, and mine only.
“And I love you, my Nicky.”
