The Right Way Page 23

by Ashey, Katie

“You’re far too good at this,” I panted. He pulled away for a moment to grin up at me. “No, no, don’t stop! Make me come.”

“You’re awfully bossy for someone who didn’t want me five minutes ago.”

Raising my hips, I cried, “I’m sorry. Just keep tongue fucking me.”

“You have such a dirty mouth,” he mused as his fingers traced the moisture though my outer lips.

“If you make me come, I’ll put this dirty mouth of mine all over your cock.”

With a grunt, his head lolled back for a moment. “Seriously, I think I could blow my load with you just talking.”

“Mm, I’m getting wetter just thinking about how I’ll suck it deep inside my mouth.”

“Fucking hell,” Jonathan muttered before he buried his face in my pussy again.

“Thank you,” I cried as I began wantonly rubbing myself against him. It might’ve taken us a long time to finally become intimate, but it was worth the wait. He always took his time with me. Most guys his age couldn’t find a clit, least of all make you come, but Jonathan could. God, could he make me come so hard. And man, did he love using his mouth to do it.

Just as I started to tense up to go over the edge, the bedroom door flung open. “Mommy!” Evie cried.

At the sound of her voice, I jerked the sheet and duvet over us before clenching my thighs around Jonathan’s head. He grunted from both frustration and I imagined suffocation.

By the time she reached the side of the bed, Jonathan was buried under the covers. I forced a smile to my face. “Morning, baby.”

Evie’s brows creased as she surveyed the room. “Where’s Daddy?”

He’s currently being strangled between my legs. “He’s in the bathroom with a tummy ache.”

“Seriously?” Jonathan muttered against me to which I squeezed harder.

Glancing past me at the bathroom door, Evie wrinkled her little nose. “Gram E says it’s time t get up.”

Leave it to Gram E to be an orgasm denier. “Okay. You can go back downstairs and tell her we’re getting a move on.”

  “I want my pwetty dwess.”

Shaking my head, I replied, “You’re not going to put your dress on until we get to the church.”

Evie’s expression darkened as she crossed her arms over her chest. I’d seen this mad face many times over the years, but each time I did, I couldn’t help thinking how much she looked like Jake. He had the same expression when he got pissed. “I wanna be a pwetty pwincess!”

“And you will be. But not right now.”

Just before a tantrum could erupt of which I was sure Jonathan’s true location would be revealed, I said, “Daddy and I brought you a special cupcake home from the rehearsal dinner last night.”

With her interest piqued, I said, “If you go downstairs, you can have it for breakfast.”

Her eyes popped wide. “I can?”

“Yes, today is a fun day for Maddie and Noah, so we’re going to start celebrating right now. You can celebrate with a special Flower Girl cupcake. Just go downstairs and tell Gram E you can have it.”

Jumping up and down, Evie squealed before turning and racing out of the bedroom. I didn’t relax my grip around Jonathan until I heard her little feet pounding down the stairs. Once I widened my legs, Jonathan wheezed out a breath before climbing up me.

“Did you really have to tell her I was taking a shit?”

Giggling, I replied, “It was the only way to keep her from hunting you down in the bathroom.”

“I don’t know if that’s worse or the fact Mom is going to know exactly what’s going on up here since you bribed Evie with a cupcake.”

I swept my hand over my face. “I think I’ll go with your mom knowing we were having sex.”

“Attempting to have sex,” he corrected.

  “Whatever. It’s still mortifying.”

“Come on. We better get up or she’ll be back yelling at us that Mom said she can’t have the cupcake,” Jonathan said.

Sliding my hand between us, I gripped his slackened cock in my hand. “We could always have a quickie in the shower.”

Jonathan groaned. “I’ll go tell Mom it’s fine, and then meet you in the shower.”

  “Deal.”

He shot out of bed and raced into the bathroom to grab his robe. After he threw it on, he sprinted out of the bedroom. I’d barely gotten the water running and slipped out of my T-shirt before he back at my side.

After closing the shower door, Jonathan flashed a wicked grin at me. “As much as I’d love to go back down on you, I think we’re going to skip straight to the main attraction.”

“I’m pretty sure I’m still wet,” I teased.

A low growl came from deep in his throat before he pounced on me. After sliding his arm under my knee , he jerked my leg up. With his other hand, he guided his cock to my center. Now that I was once again on birth control, we didn’t have to worry with condoms. He thrust inside me, causing me to gasp as he stretched and filled me.

With his hips pumping furiously in and out of my pussy, he dipped his head to suck one of my nipples deep into his mouth. “Harder,” I panted.

He abandoned my breast to grab my other leg and hoisted me up where I could wrap my legs around his waist. I wrapped my arms around his neck, pressing my breasts into his chest. “Fuck Presley,” he grunted.

“Yes, please, fuck me,” I murmured as pounded into me. I welcomed the sting of my back banging into the tile. I raked my fingers through the corded muscles on his back as my breaths came in harsh pants.

“Mm, just like that. Leave your mark on me,” he instructed.

Placing one hand behind my head on the tile, Jonathan gripped my waist harder with the other. His hips kept up a maddening pace. The friction of his movement sent me over the edge, and I came crying out his name.

As I rode out my orgasm, his dick continued pumping in and out of me. I clung to him as he strove closer to his release. When he did come, he groaned into my ear. Fuck, I loved the sound of his pleasure.

When he came back to himself, he gently eased me back onto my feet. With a loopy grin, he said, “That was amazing.”

I laughed. “I thought so, too.”

“See? Admit it, Pres. You needed that to help get you started for the day.”

I rolled my eyes at that one. But, I couldn’t say he was wrong. It was always amazing with Jonathan. I knew how good I had it. Daily.

As he reached for his bottle of body wash, he asked, “How long do you think we have before Evie is pounding on the bathroom door?”

Grinning, I grabbed my shampoo. “We might get lathered up, but I doubt we’ll get rinsed.

He shook his head. “I guess it could be worse.”

  “And how would that be?”

“She wouldn’t want to be around us all the time.”

“You’re right. There are worse things than being adored by your child,” I mused as I massaged the shampoo into my scalp.

“That’s our cross to bear. Meanwhile, I think Mom’s cross to bear is Evie starting Pre-K next month.”

Once again, a wave of guilt overcame me. “It’s the best thing for her,” I stated more for myself than him. It was only three days a week until noon, but you would’ve thought I was shipping her to boarding school where Evelyn was concerned.

Jonathan kissed my forehead. “You’re right. As an only child, she needs to be around other kids.”

“You think Evelyn will ever forgive me?”

“I’m sure she already has.” With a wink, he added, “As long as you let her pick Evie up every day.”

I laughed. “I don’t think that’s a terrible set-up. I’ll need the time for school and studying since I’ll be in the nursing program.”

After two years in school, I’d just passed the exams to be officially admitted to the nursing program. I was ridiculously excited. Of course, I couldn’t have done it without the love and support of the Nelsons.

  A mischievous
glint flashed in Jonathan’s eyes. “You know, I think it’s past time you wore your costume for me.”

Along with a celebratory dinner, Jonathan had bought a sexy nurse costume to commemorate my achievement. “One day, I promise. For now, I’m too afraid of Evie busting in on us.”

“You could always tell her you were playing dress up like she does.”

“Oh, I’d love to see your parents’ faces when that little tidbit accidentally came out.”

Jonathan laughed. “Forget any pre-k angst. I’m pretty sure Mom would keel over with a heart attack.”

  “We can’t have that happen.”

  “I have the perfect solution.”

  “What’s that?”

“We’ll just have to go away for the weekend for you to model it.”

Shaking my head, I giggled. “Fine. It’s a plan.”

  * * *

Three hours later found Evie sitting deathly still in the chair as the stylist put the finishing touches on her hair. I held back my laughter because I’m not sure I’d ever seen her so still. She usually went non-stop until she fell over with exhaustion.

“There. All done,” the stylist pronounced.

Leaning forward, Evie admired her reflection in the mirror. “Don’t you look pretty, sweetheart,” I cooed. She did look like an angel. Her dark hair contrasted against the white, poofy flower girl dress.

Giving me her best Jake Nelson smirk, she replied, “Tanks, Mommy.”

I held out my hand to her. “Let’s go show Daddy.”

With a squeal, she hopped out of the chair and slipped her hand into mine. We made our way past the other bridesmaids in their plum colored dresses. We headed out of one the church’s preparation rooms and out into the sanctuary. Standing at the altar, the groomsmen and Noah were getting their pictures taken.

It had been a year since Evie’s adoption had gone through, which made Jonathan legally her father. Jake’s name remained on the birth certificate just like many biological parents in an adoption. Since we didn’t want to make it traumatic on her later in life, Jonathan and I made sure to show Evie pictures and videos of Jake and explained he was also her daddy. She liked to call him Daddy J, which I thought Jake would’ve liked.

At the sight of Evie racing towards him, Jonathan’s face lit up. He broke out of ranks with the others and hurried over to meet her. “Don’t I look pwetty, Daddy?”

Chuckling, Jonathan replied, “You’re the most beautiful girl there ever was.”

As usual, she preened under his compliments. She was so much like Jake when it came to attention.

Jonathan swept his gaze from Evie to me. “You know what? You’re the most beautiful girl there ever was, and Mommy is the most beautiful woman there ever was.”

Heat rose in my cheeks at his compliment. He never ceased to make me feel loved and desired. “Thank you.” I ran my hand down the front of his tux. “I have to say you look handsome yourself.”

“We clean up pretty well, don’t we?”

  I laughed. “We do.”

We were interrupted by the photographer calling Jonathan back to get his pictures done. Patting his shoulder, I said, “You better run along before you get demoted.”

Jonathan grinned. “Noah would never take away my Best Man stats.”

  “I would hope not.”

Reaching in his pocket, he pulled out a shiny platinum band encrusted with diamonds. “There’s also the fact I have the ring.”

I waved my hand in front of his face where Noah’s soon to be band was sliding somewhat loosely on my thumb. “Same.”

Although I’d known Noah would ask Jonathan to be his Best Man, Maddie floored me when she asked me to be her Maid of Honor. Considering she had asked five of her family and friends, I imagined there was someone else she was closer to. She’d already paid me an enormous honor by asking Evie to be a flower girl along with Noah’s half-sister, Emma Grace, who was Evie’s age. I could only imagine the potential trouble the two of the them could get up to.

After giving Jonathan an air kiss so I didn’t leave lipstick on his cheeks, I said, “I love you, babe.”

  “I love you, too.”

As I made my way back to the preparation room, a tiny ache burned in my chest at thought of how I wished this was our wedding. Sure, the idea of being married at twenty-one and twenty-three was somewhat ridiculous. We’d had many talks about how I wanted to finish school first and get a job before there was a ring on my left finger. Not to mention the fact, Jonathan was just starting his career. Living with the Nelsons was great to save money on housing as well as childcare, but at the same time, I was ready for my own my place. Or my own place with Jonathan and Evie.

At the same time, life was short, and you needed to live in the moment. Jake’s death had certainly taught me that. In the end, all that really mattered was I loved Jonathan and he loved me. I couldn’t ask for more than that. It hadn’t started out the right way, but I’d found more happiness than I’d ever imagined.

  Epilogue: Jonathan

As I stood with Noah at the altar of the enormous First Baptist Church, I fought the urge to pinch myself. It was a hell of a surreal moment to be acting as Best Man for one of your best friends. Especially in your early twenties. But in many ways, Noah felt more like my brother, so it was hard to believe my little brother was getting married.

But for Noah, there was no one else in the world for him but Maddie, and the same could be said for her. They wanted to spend the rest of their lives together, and they wanted to do it under the same name. I had to admit I now understood the feeling. Several years ago, I would’ve tried to talk him out of it, but now I had a greater appreciation for monogamy…and eventual matrimony.

Glancing out into the crowd in the church, Cade grinned at me from one of the pews. I didn’t even have to look to know Avery was at his side. Glittering on her left hand was the engagement ring he’d given her back at the close of our last football season. Since Noah was more of an angel than Cade, I’d been far more blown away when he told me he was going to pop the question. It was the equivalent of finding Maddie’s ring in Jake’s things.

But like with Jake’s mortality, Darion’s death had shown Cade how short life really was. When you experience trauma like we had, you learn to live in the moment and to cling to happiness when you find it. That happiness for us had manifested in the three beautiful, kind, and compassionate women we were in love with.

Speaking of my woman, I turned my attention across the altar to Presley. I wasn’t too surprised to find tears shimmering in her eyes as she stared adoringly at Maddie and Noah. We’d certainly all come so far in the three years since Jake’s death. Maddie was no longer Presley’s enemy—she was her best friend. Even though Jake had been devastated when he’d said goodbye to Maddie, he’d written in his letter there was no better guy for her than Noah. I could only imagine he was smiling down on all of us today.

When it was time for the giving of rings, I passed on Maddie’s ring to Noah and Presley gave hers to Maddie. Once the “I Do’s were said, Maddie’s father pronounced them man and wife, and then Noah sealed the deal by kissing Maddie.

After Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan started down the aisle, I met Presley at the top of the altar. She smiled so beautifully at me through her happy tears I couldn’t resist planting a quick kiss on her lips. “I love you, Presley.”

“I love you, too. With all my heart and soul.”

She slid her arm through mine, and I then I brought my other arm up to cover her hand in mine. I always wanted to be the one holding her hand—now and forever.

  * * *

After the wedding, we headed across town to the reception at the country club where Dr. Sullivan and her husband, Greg, were members. Although they had gone out all with the fancy tables outfitted with crystal and china, a rocking DJ, and fancy lighting, one thing was conspicuously absent.

“No alcohol?” Cade demanded somewhat comically.

  I laughed. “Dude, have y
ou forgotten not only that Maddie doesn’t drink, but her dad is a minister?”

He shrugged. “So? All kinds of religious people drink,” he countered.

  “Well, they don’t.”

  “Bummer.”

Avery rolled her eyes. “I think you can manage to stay high on life, rather than alcohol, for a little while.”

Grinning, he replied, “Of course, babe. I’m the life of the party. Just wait until I get you out onto the dance floor.”

  I laughed. “Spare us.”

After stuffing myself on the delicious dinner of steak and vegetables, Presley dragged me out in the middle of the floor to dance. While I would’ve loved getting down and dirty with her, Pastor Dan seemed to be everywhere. I could almost hear Jake laughing at me while muttering, “You pussy.”

In a sweat from my exertions, I jerked my thumb at Presley. “I think I need some fresh air,” I called over the music.

  “Me too,” Presley replied.

Leading her off the dance floor, we headed out one of the doors onto the patio. Since there were a lot of people standing arounddrinking and smoking, I bypassed them and started down the stairs onto the green.

“Where are you going?” Presley called behind me.

Jerking my thumb up to the patio, I answered, “It was too crowded.”

When we got down the stairs, Presley said, “Wait a minute.”

  “What’s wrong?”

She grinned as she slipped out of her heels. “I don’t want to get stuck in the grass.”

I motioned to her. “I’ll take those for you.”

“Why thank you, kind sir,” she teased.

“I see where Evie gets her sassiness.”

Giggling, Presley said, “I’ll admit she is her mother’s daughter with that.”

“Of course, let’s not forgot what a smartass Jake could be,” I mused.

“You mean, all Nelson men, because she spends a lot time with you, Daddy. She doesn’t stand a chance, does she?”
