  She blushed. “Maybe a little.”

  He smiled again. “Then I dub you a Knight of the Prairie, Mrs. Brock. We are a secret organization of matchmakers.”

  Her eyes went wide.

  He held his finger to his lips and locked gazes with her. “Shhh. Do not tell a soul.”

  She stared at him. His eyes were mesmerizing. “I won’t.”

  “Good. Now go, enjoy the festivities. And when the time comes, do your job. Do it well and there will be much reward.”

  She nodded, eyes rounded to saucers now. “Okay.”

  He smiled again. “You are a fine woman, Mrs. Brock. But never let on who you really are.”

  She nodded, turned and headed for the church doors.

  Markhel sighed as he watched her go. “My first recruit.” He headed for the doors himself. “I will never hear the end of this.”
