  ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

Thanks to Colleen Dunn Bates and Dorie Bailey for their work editing the book, and especially to Colleen for publishing this. Thanks to everyone at Prospect Park. You’ve been great to work with. Thanks to Steph Cha, Lisa Brackmann, Denise Hamilton, Phoef Sutton, and Patricia Smiley for writing advance praise.

Thanks to the California State University Channel Islands library, which has a rich archive from the Camarillo State Mental Hospital. I would not have been able to write the psych hospital chapters without the use of that archive. Notably, the archive houses the memoir They Call Them Camisoles by Wilma Wilson. Don’t take any similarities between the fictional Wilma Greene and the real Wilma Wilson too seriously. Wilma Greene is not based on Wilma Wilson. The character’s name is simply a tribute.

Additionally, no writer works totally alone. We all need communities to help us through drafts. Thanks to my community of writers, in particular Jim Ruland, Todd Taylor, Mickey Hess, Patricia Geary, Brad Monsma, Mary Adler, Bob Mayberry, and Scott O’Connor for helping me in a variety of ways to see this book to publication.

Most of all, thanks to Felizon Vidad for everything.
