Cassie awoke and saw that I had put my leg over her. "Buck?" she whispered. She scrambled out from underneath my leg and again said, "Buck?" She watched as I blinked my eyes several times but I still couldn't move.
"Cassie, is that you?" I mumbled. "I can't see you."
I tried to raise up but only made in part way before falling back on my side. "Cassie, are you there?"
"Yes, Buck, I'm here. Can you see anything at all?"
"Find John."
Cassie raced to her door and stopped in her tracks when she saw the host of animals all facing the pasture. She heard the muffled sounds of sobbing. She approached them and asked, "What's going on?"
"Oh Cassie, Dorcas didn't make it out alive, the ants killed her. Then Methusaleh pointed toward the pasture. Cassie saw that John was watching a fire, and she knew. "Ohhhhh, my poor Dorcas," she cried. "I need John right away, I think Buck may have been blinded."
