  Even his small gestures were topnotch, like his flawless speed sketch of her Arclight armor the night of the carnival. His note stated So glad I was wrong.

  J-Tom felt herself blushing and covered her face. She knew this tryst couldn’t last, but god, was it so fun.

  Another text drew her attention.

  Briezilla: Dinner at 7? Higuera Street Grill?

  Jordana: I’m down.

  J-Tom: Can’t. Got plans.

  Briezilla: BOO! You’re always busy J.

  Jordana: You’re as bad as Bogota.

  The jab stung. J-Tom grimaced, racking her brain for a compromise.

  J-Tom: Let’s meet Monday night.

  Briezilla: Can I invite G-Mama? She’s my new favorite human.

  J-Tom: Obvs! Grace is magic.

  J-Tom placed the phone down to avoid the coiling grossness filling her stomach. Hiding her secret life from the girls weighed on her each day. But betraying Jodie, a long-time friend, had been unbearable.

  Just like Spencer betrayed her.

  J-Tom shook her head, pulse quickening. “I’m not like Spencer.” She’d remind herself until it stuck. Pushing Spencer from her thoughts made her long for Hugo’s company. But his last text irked her. Why was he with some random girl unless…? J-Tom instantly texted Jordana.

  J-Tom: Did something happen with Bogie?

  Jordana: Ugh. I’m avoiding his calls.

  J-Tom: You tell him about the other situation?

  Jordana: No. I’m such a chickenshit.

  J-Tom: You so are.

  Jordana: Ouch! I thought Brie was the bitch.
