“What do you mean pre-desert? What trick have you got up your sleeve now?” Abigail said, looking at the Senator.

“Well, this cheesecake is good, but I know something much better and far more satisfying, and I plan to get some of it when we go to bed tonight,” the Senator said as he watched Gail blush.

“Oh, well I can certainly say that you are more than welcome to come to my establishment anytime you’d like sir,” Abigail said, and she smiled and blushed.

  “I just had a revelation.”

“Oh? And may I ask what revelation you just had?”

“Yes, you may. My revelation is that we are going to bed early, there’s an establishment I want to visit, and as you know I am not a patient man,” the Senator said and he stood up and walked over to Gail and took her hand. Gail blushed again as she took her husband’s hand and they headed upstairs to the bedroom, so the establishment the Senator wanted to get into so badly could be opened.

  Chapter 18

  The Game is Afoot

When the Senator woke up and looked at Gail still sleeping like a baby, he got up and walked to the window to take a look at the morning sky. He looked back at Gail to see if him getting out of bed had disturbed her rest or awakened her, not a bit he saw as he turned around to look at her. He felt proud of himself for being able to show Gail he could be the great lover that she married so many years ago, even if it wasn’t on a daily or weekly basis.

While the Senator was feeling good about his prowess in the bedroom, Barry and Karen had already gotten in round two, three and four that morning. They were now eating with Corey and Aunt Ledley. Well with Aunt Ledley, because Corey stopped by to grab a bite and was now driving up and down the street in a Ferrari. He was driving back and forth on the street in front of the restaurant where they were eating. Corey would drive by every five to ten minutes to see if they were looking at him. He was putting on a show. Barry could tell he was in chicken hawk mode as well, not full chicken hawk mode, but he was chicken hawking. Aunt Ledley and Karen were talking about a few shops they wanted to visit while Barry sat there and watched people and Corey go by. Corey’s latest drive-by got a response from Aunt Ledley, while they all wondered where he got glasses from that fast.

“Oh lord, this fool has lost his mind, riding up and down the street. He’s lucky we ain’t in America, they would have pulled him over by now, and they probably will here too,” Aunt Ledley said as Corey raised his shades to look at them as he went by.

Karen and Aunt Ledley went back to their conversation as they both watched Corey almost rear-end another car while he was trying to talk to a lady walking down the street. They both looked at each other, shook their heads, and started looking at shops they wanted to visit on each other’s phones. Barry watched Corey turn the corner still pleading his case to the young lady in tight jeans. Barry went back to people watching and drinking his coffee when a young woman approached him and asked him if he would take a few pictures of her and her boyfriend. He saw Karen and Aunt Ledley look up to see what was going on and went back to what they were doing.

“Sure,” Barry said, and he pushed his chair back so he could stand up.

“Thank you so much,” the lady said, and she handed him her phone and went and stood by her boyfriend.

Barry nodded his head, and he snapped a few pictures, and they moved to another spot so he could take pictures of them there as well. He heard them talking about taking a picture by the fountain, which meant he would have to walk down to the fountain with them, so he let Karen know.

“Hey, I’m going to walk over to the fountain and take a few pictures, I’ll be right back.”

  “Ok, have fun.”

“Yeah have fun being Olan Mills,” Aunt Ledley said, and she and Karen laughed.

“Oh, God that’s funny, I wish I would have thought of it,” Karen said, laughing with Aunt Ledley while Barry walked away, mumbling a little.

“Oh yeah, I’ll have loads of fun I’m sure,” Barry said, and he walked to the fountain to take more pictures, but his reply fell on deaf ears because Aunt Ledley and Karen were already back into their conversation.

He made it over to the fountain where the young couple was deciding where they wanted to sit or stand and take the pictures, they finally agreed on a spot, and he snapped a few pictures for them. They thanked him as he started to hand the boyfriend the phone back and it seemed like the boyfriend was getting ready to say something but stopped as he looked behind him. He turned around to see Corey with his shirt half torn off running up the street with five guys chasing him. He took a glance at Karen and Aunt Ledley, who were watching the scene unfold with their mouths open a little. Corey was running full stride and looking back over his shoulder which is probably why he never saw the low hanging tree branch he was about to run into, until he hit it, with a loud crack. Barry thought Corey tore his head off because his head was looking straight up at the sky, fully bent back, but he never broke stride, his arms and legs were pumping as fast as ever, but he was looking straight up at the sky. The whole thing looked like a scene from a movie.

“Excuse me, I have to go help my friend,” Barry said, and he put the phone in his pocket and jogged over to where the guys who had chased Corey were now circling him.

Barry saw Karen and Aunt Ledley grabbing knives from the table and getting up, but he waved them off. He didn’t realize it, but the boyfriend had followed him. He looked at him a bit surprised because he knows that most people will run from a fight, but there he was and his girlfriend too.

“I’m Talon, and you look like you may need a hand.”

“Thank you, Talon, I’m Barry, and the hand is much appreciated,” Barry said, and they walked through the small crowd that had gathered and into the circle of guys surrounding Corey.

“Oh yeah, now what’s up? I got my boys now, y’all ain’t so bad when it’s not a seven on one,” Corey said, still breathing hard from the chase.

“It’s five,” Barry said, looking around to be sure he hadn’t missed anyone.

“I put hands on two of them, that’s when the rest came out,” Corey said, looking at Barry for a moment, and then back at his would-be attackers.

One of the guys tried to rush them but got met with a foot in the face by Talon, which put him flat on his back and got some oohs and ahs from the crowd.

Barry, Corey, and Talon were getting ready for the next sneak attack when they heard Aunt Ledley’s voice and saw her hit not one but two of the guys in the head with her purse.

“Go on!!! Get out of here!!!” Aunt Ledley said, and the guys decided they wanted no parts of her or her purse and ran off covering up while she swung on them again as they ran away, making one guy fall and hit his chin on the sidewalk.

“That’s what you get!” Karen said as she kicked him right in the crack of his ass which made him fall and hit his chin again on the sidewalk.

They stood there watching the guys runoff, and the guy Karen kicked in the crack of his ass run and pulled out the wedgie he got from the impact of Karen’s foot. They made their way back to the table and even got a few applauses from the crowd. When they finally sat down, Aunt Ledley went right in on Corey.

“Didn’t I tell you to stop acting a fool? Now, look at you, sitting there with your shirt all tore up looking like you the Incredible Hulk, what happened?”

“And where’s the car?” Karen asked, looking at Corey and then down the street.

“Oh Lord, you done got the car took,” Aunt Ledley said, shaking her head and using one of the napkins to wipe the sweat from her face.

“No, I didn’t, I got the key right here,” Corey said, proud of himself holding the key up so everyone could see it.

“What happened?” Aunt Ledley asked, still shaking her head and rolling her eyes.

“I went around the corner and old girl finally stopped walking so I could talk to her, that’s when I got out of the car and locked it. Old girl started walking again, so I followed her. I was chi
lling talking to her when some dude and his boy came up to me speaking Europe, so I told him to step off before I take his dollar-fifty looking ass and make change,” Corey said, but he stopped talking to take a big drink of the water the waiter brought to the table.

“So, what happened then?” Karen asked as everyone was looking at Corey, waiting to hear the story.

“Man, that fool stepped up to me, and I made change,” Corey said, stopping his story again to take another drink of water.

“You made change?” Talon asked a little confused, saying what everyone was thinking.

“Yeah, I changed that fool from conscious to unconscious, you should have seen me, I was like Tyson,” Corey said proud of himself while he swung his arms in the air like he was boxing somebody.

“So, when did all the running start, Tyson?” Aunt Ledley asked as everyone listening to the story started laughing.

“Oh see, there you go, I was putting hands on them fools, those fools were scratchin’ and clawin’ at me. They were coming out of the woodworks, so I had to break camp and get some backup.”

“Yeah, we saw you coming for back up,” Aunt Ledley said laughing while she pretended to be Corey from earlier moving her arms like she was running and looking over her shoulder.

“So, is the car still there?” Karen asked, while she wiped tears from her eyes and tried to catch her breath from laughing so hard at Aunt Ledley’s impression of Corey.

“Yeah, it was there when I ran past it, I mean last time I saw it,” Corey said as everyone started laughing again.

“Well, let’s go get the car,” Barry said, while he was wiping tears from his eyes and trying to catch his breath as well.

“I can go with you, I take it that it’s not far from here,” Talon said still laughing a bit himself.

“Nah, like a block, maybe a block and a half at the most,” Corey said looking in the direction of the car.

“That is if it’s okay if my girlfriend, uh Ann, stays here with you ladies until we get back.”

“That’s probably a good idea, the three of you going instead of just two, in case they are looking for another fight, and yes Ann is welcome to sit with us,” Aunt Ledley said, moving her purse, so Ann had a clear spot to sit.

Barry thought about it, and it did make sense to have the three of them go, especially since Talon had shown some real fighting skill in the brief moment of opportunity that he had.

“Okay, let’s go get the car,” Barry said, and he got up from the table.

Barry, Corey, and Talon said their brief goodbyes and headed up the street to get the Ferrari Corey had to abandon in his hurry to break camp. They walked and talked as they rounded the corner and headed to the next block, with a few people looking at Corey’s torn shirt. Talon was there on vacation with his girlfriend, Ann from Australia. Talon was talking about a restaurant they had to try when Corey saw the Ferrari, sitting exactly where and how he left it. Corey got excited and ran over to the car and pressed the alarm to unlock the doors.

“Ok, what’s the plan?” Corey said, and he started the car, looking at Barry and Talon.

“Talon and I will walk back to the restaurant; you go ahead and take off.”

  “You sure?”

“Yeah, I doubt those guys want any more problems. We’ll be fine. See you in ten or fifteen.”

“Okay, I’ll let Karen and Aunt Ledley know what’s up, my head is bangin’, I need some Tylenol like yesterday,” Corey said, and he drove away rubbing on his forehead where the tree branch introduced itself earlier.

“The adrenaline is wearing off he is going to feel that hit he took from the tree branch,” Talon said while he and Barry started to walk back to the restaurant.

“Yeah, I bet,” Barry said, taking a quick look around the area to make sure things were still clear.

“By the way, you still have my phone.”

“Oh damn, do I? I’m sorry,” Barry said, patting himself down and then retrieving the phone from his pocket.

“No problem, I needed to give it to you anyway.”

“Yeah, but picture taking time is over,” Barry said, trying to hand Talon the phone.

“Look at the text message; it’s for you.”

“For me?” Barry asked, still stunned.

“Yes, I mean you no harm, I’m just a messenger who got off track by today’s events,” Talon said as he watched Barry start to retrieve the message.

Barry was shocked but not as much as he thought he would be, which was a surprise to him as well. He realized the Senator was powerful and this just proved it to him that much more, erasing those last shreds of doubt. He stopped walking so he could read the message thoroughly, and as expected, it was the Senator.

“Sorry to interrupt your vacation, but I need you to come back stateside for a little unfinished business, some things have come up that forces the timetable to move faster than anticipated. You will leave this evening and return the following day; I will have a driver pick you up at six o'clock sharp. The game is afoot, give my regards to the wife,” the message said. Barry handed the phone back to Talon, and they started to walk up the street again. When they finally got back to the restaurant, Talon and his girlfriend said goodbye and disappeared into the crowd of people on the street. Barry sat down and figured he would use Aunt Ledley as a shield from Karen, at least for the moment.

“Corey said everything was okay and he was going to go get some Tylenol,” Aunt Ledley said while Barry poured himself some water from the pitcher on the table.

  “Good,” Karen said.

“You know what did happen on the way back?”

  “What happened?”

“Well, it appears I have to meet some gentlemen coming from Austria. I have to go on a day trip and look at some business plans. So tomorrow you two will be free to shop ‘til you drop,” Barry said knowing Karen couldn’t grill him in front of Aunt Ledley, but she would have time to process him leaving which would take some of the sting out of her response.

“I thought you told the office no interruptions.”

“I did, but some things came up, and our timetable got moved, so there’s no way to get out of doing this.”

“So, it’s only for a day?”

“Yes, and I was told to give you a very heartfelt hello.”

  “Okay, that’s not bad.”

“Well, Aunt Ledley and I are going to go get facials and massages.”

“What about me?” Barry said as Aunt Ledley and Karen got up and walked over to the chauffeured Rolls Royce that had just pulled up.

“You get to pay the bill,” Karen said while she watched Barry reached into his pocket and pulled out a credit card.

Barry, Karen, and Aunt Ledley rode to the spa where they got dropped off, and Barry was going back to the hotel to pack for his day trip. On the way back to the hotel, Barry got a text message from Karen.

“I know you have to leave. So I’m not going to worry too much. We have been through enough to know that you will be back safely tomorrow night. Know this will be waiting for you when you get back,” the message read and then Karen sent him another text message, this one was a picture of her crotch. Barry smiled and sent her a text message back that read, “You know as soon as I leave, I will be working to get back to you and my, happy place.”

Barry stopped by Corey’s room to let him know what was going on and Corey seemed to be okay with him leaving for a day, but Corey seemed preoccupied when Barry came into his hotel suite.

  “Everything okay?”

“Oh yeah, you see when I got back, and the valet parked my car he told me that there is an onsite nurse to help guests if need be, but it was close to her time to leave, so I rushed over to see her, she is a super fine honie. So, I’m getting a house call for my much-needed medical treatment,” Corey said then he looked toward the bathroom.

“She’s in the spa, isn’t she?”

“Uh, yeah, asshole naked, but I need a hot spa rub to relax my sore muscles and g
et rid of certain areas of stiffness,” Corey said grinning.

“Okay, I’ll let you get the medical attention you need, I’ll see you tomorrow night, then again maybe I won’t, until your treatments are completed,” Barry said laughing.

“You might be right, I need to rehab, and the room service is bomb as hell, so I may just do like everybody’s been saying and chill out for a few days.”

“Well, tomorrow is a good day, Karen and Aunt Ledley are going to shop ‘til they drop, so you have time to work out that stiffness you’re suffering from,” Barry said, and he laughed, but Corey was shushing him because he was laughing too loud.

“Okay, it’s time for you to roll fool, you got places to go, and I got coochie to see.”

Barry was laughing and getting ready to leave and was startled when he opened the door, and there was room service just about to knock on the door.

“Oh, I’m sorry sir, you scared me,” the room service guy said, and he seemed to be more startled than Barry was.

“No problem, I was just leaving, you want the guy behind me,” Barry said as he walked by the cart and lifted one of the container tops knowing Corey would order French fries and took a handful of the French fries off the plate. Barry could hear Corey while he walked down the hallway, eating the stolen French fries.

  “Mothafucka.”

While Barry walked down the hallway eating on his stolen French fries, Karen got off the elevator.

“I figured you would be here,” Karen said, stepping off the elevator.

“Karen?! I thought you were at the spa,” Barry said, surprised to see his wife.

“You didn’t think I would let you leave without saying goodbye, did you?” Karen said, and she took a French fry.

“No, I guess not,” Barry said, laughing as Karen stole another fry.

“So, how is Corey?” Karen asked, looking at the room service cart getting pushed in his door.

“Corey is getting medical treatment for his stiffness and injuries he suffered today; it turns out that the hotel has an onsite nurse, who may have a few days off and time to heal Corey,” Barry said as Karen took another French fry out of his hand and ate it.
