“Madison, no!” screamed Aden, rising to his feet.

Maddie did not waver. She planted a foot into Aden’s chest and catapulted him away from her. Mr. Y Leiro had emerged from his state of unconsciousness, and his eyes now grew round as she advanced on him.

She pistol-whipped him across the face, knocking him to the ground. “You bastard!” she shrieked. Maddie kneeled and struck him in the face again and again, then she placed the gun against his ear.

She squeezed the trigger, once, twice, three times.

Red mist shot backward onto Maddie’s face.

She ignored it. Her senses were trained on two sounds: A cry of shock behind her, and the front door slamming open. She looked around but did not see Ihtisham. Aden had not secured him.

Maddie rose up, an angel of vengefulness. She looked into the living room to see Ihtisham running out of the door with something black and small in his hand.

  The phone!

“NO!” screamed Maddie, sure that it was now going to be all for nothing. In desperation, she whipped out the hand holding the gun. Aden barreled into her just as she pulled the trigger. A cry of pain indicated a hit, but Maddie knew it was not enough.

“Aden, get off me. She’ll trigger the bombs!” Maddie sent a right elbow into Aden’s face and fired her borrowed gun sideways. She felt the hot burn of the ejected bullet casing strike her face but ignored the pain.

She missed Ihtisham completely. She scrambled to her feet, desperate to prevent the terrorist from triggering the bombs. Maddie took aim from inside the house, tapping the trigger this time as calmly as when in a three-gun competition. The bullet struck the male teen in the shoulder. The hit whipped him around and sent him to the ground.

Maddie exited the house and strode over to her former friend. Ihtisham was desperately pulling himself across the grass toward the cell phone. Maddie did not have time to reach him. She did not really want to.

  Maddie took aim.

“Madison, don’t!” Aden yelled from behind her.

Maddie could not hear him over the sound of the six gunshots she sent into the young terrorist’s body.

Aden ran past her, stopping to look down at the person he knew as Tiffani. Horror filled his face. “Oh, Maddie, what did you do?”

She looked him in the eye, face calm and resolute.

“You can call your dad now. We’re gonna need the bomb squad.”

  About Kiara Ashanti

I’m a writer based out of sunny Florida. Believe or not my first name is a unisex name in several languages. Italian, Irish, Hindi, and is also an African name; though the meaning—black—is a bit on the nose. Stories are my life. My dream job really be one that pays me a boat load for reading great books. Since that job doesn’t exist, I’ve decided to write them instead. I love reading thrillers, fantasy, sci-fi, anything with a decent vampire, and I’ve got stories planned in each genre. Besides being an avid reader, I’m an occasional hunter, and archery aficionado.
