“You feel so good,” Emma said.

Her desire grew even more and craved friction and release, but she wouldn’t allow herself to think too much about her own need while she was watching Keira come undone beneath her. Keira’s body began to convulse as Emma felt strong muscles clench around her fingers. She pressed deeper and moved herself into Keira’s ass, no longer able to resist pressing her body against Keira. She knew it wouldn’t get her the release she craved desperately now, but she also knew it would feel good just being that close to her. Keira’s legs parted wider as Emma settled against her and used her hips to push her fingers inside harder and faster until Keira could no longer hold back. She came as Emma’s fingers curled inside and pressed outside against her clit. Her hips moved on their own back against Emma. Emma could no longer hold back herself. When she felt Keira begin to come down, she lifted one leg over the back of Keira’s, keeping her hand buried inside her girlfriend, and pressed her center into the top of Keira’s thigh just below her ass.

“Fuck,” Keira rasped out as Emma’s wetness coated her skin and Emma’s center pressed into her. “Harder,” Keira insisted, and Emma gave it to her harder.

She removed her hand from Keira’s clit but kept the fingers inside her body. Emma pressed herself more fully against Keira and enjoyed the immediate feeling of a building release. She thrust inside Keira in time with her own grinding, and the build grew quickly as Keira began to climb again. Keira lowered herself; no longer on her elbows. Her face buried in the pillow and her hips held her ass high in the air. Emma held onto Keira’s hip with one hand while sliding against the back of her thigh and curling her fingers inside Keira.

“Keira, I’m–” Emma couldn’t get it out because the orgasm overtook her mid-sentence. Her fingers inside Keira went still, but Keira kept moving back and forth against her, causing Emma’s orgasm to reach new heights while allowing Keira to feel the push and pull of Emma’s fingers inside and go over that cliff only moments later. “My God,” Emma exclaimed once she was finally back in her own body.

“That,” Keira let out and flopped down against the bed, forcing Emma’s fingers out of her body. “I agree with that,” she added with a rolling laugh. “God, I needed that.”

“Me too,” Emma revealed and moved to Keira’s side.

“I’m not done with you though.” Keira turned only her face to Emma. “Give me a minute, and then you’re all mine again.”

  “As you wish.” Emma chuckled.

A few minutes later, it was Emma’s wish that was granted as Keira slipped inside her while applying teasingly light pressure with her tongue to her still sensitive clit. It didn’t take her long to come again. Once they were both sated, Emma watched Keira’s tired eyes close and she fell asleep. She joined her moments later, after setting the alarm on her phone for a two-hour nap. She knew Keira needed the sleep, but she also knew she had work to do and would only tolerate a couple more hours off before getting back to it.

  CHAPTER 31

  “You ready?” Keira asked Emma.

“I literally just opened my eyes, so no,” Emma replied groggily.

“Babe, come on.” Keira threw back the comforter covering Emma’s body. “I have to be there in an hour.” She stared down at Emma wide-eyed and smiled. “Oh, and good morning.”

She walked out of the bedroom fully dressed and ready to go, leaving Emma to ready herself for their day. Emma emerged from the bedroom dressed for the wedding in clothes borrowed from Keira since she’d stayed there the night before. She looked almost as exhausted as Keira felt. Luckily, Keira had made them all coffee. Kevin and Tracy had emerged only moments earlier from Kevin’s bedroom to grab cups. Tracy had then gone into the bathroom to get ready while Kevin returned to his bedroom to put on his clothes.

“I’m here,” Emma declared, still with the look of sleep in her eyes.

“Do you need the bathroom? Tracy’s in there, but she should be out soon.” Keira poured Emma a cup of coffee and placed the milk next to it. “I filled it halfway with coffee, so you can pollute it with the milk now. Sorry, I don’t have tea.”

“You’re hilarious,” Emma returned sarcastically. “I just need to brush my teeth. I brushed my hair in the bedroom.” She took the cup in both of her hands.

“I like your hair pulled back like that,” Keira told her, approaching her and toying with the ends of the hair Emma had in a ponytail.

“So, you’ve said before.” Emma was clearly not awake.

Tracy emerged from the bathroom dolled up, with her hair curled at the ends and makeup, giving her complexion a spotless look. She smiled at the two of them before heading back into the bedroom to finish getting ready.

“You’re so beautiful,” Keira told Emma while Emma poured her milk.

“Thank you?” Emma questioned with a coy smile in Keira’s direction.

“You don’t even wear makeup. You just look this good all the time,” she added and moved to place a hand on the small of Emma’s back. “And you look hot in my clothes,” she whispered into Emma’s ear before nibbling on the lobe.

“You cannot do that to me when I don’t get to be alone with you for the next fourteen hours.”

Keira laughed as she pulled back, allowing Emma to take a drink of her coffee.

“We’re leaving in ten minutes,” Keira instructed. “Ten minutes, Kev,” she yelled through the closed door of Kevin’s bedroom.

  ◆◆◆

Keira had been nervous about this wedding, but only for a few moments. Then, she was in her zone. She ushered everyone to their proper places and created a text group on her phone for everyone helping out today. She messaged Emma, who was already at the reception, to check in. Emma reported back that everything was fine. She and Hillary had the wedding under control. They watched as the bride headed toward her groom.

Keira was staring at the groom; a handsome man in his mid-twenties. The elation on his face as he watched his soon-to-be wife walk down the aisle was more than evident even before his eyes began to well up with tears. When the bride finally made it to him with her father in tow, he used two fingers to wipe at his eyes and then smiled at her before taking both of her hands in his own.

“I want that,” Keira said mostly to herself.

  “What?” Hillary asked.

“Oh.” Keira turned to see that Hillary was paying attention to her. “That. I want that.”

The priest was beginning the ceremony, and the only other sound in the church was Joanna’s camera clicks as she moved through the space, snapping pictures.

“The bride?” Hillary lifted her eyebrows. “I think she’s taken.” She turned back to watch the ceremony. “And I think you are too.”

Keira resisted laughing so as not to disturb the ceremony and replied, “Not that bride, but a bride.”

“You suddenly have the urge to get married?”

“Not suddenly, and not tomorrow. But, yeah, I want to get married,” Keira shared.

“And seeing the bridezilla get married has you feeling it more than usual?”

“No, being with Emma has me feeling it more than usual.”

Hillary turned to her then and said, “You just met her.”

“She’s it, Hill.” Her smile grew. “I feel it. I know it.”

“You’re sure? You guys haven’t been together that long.”

“I just do.” Keira turned back to the ceremony. “One day, I hope that’s us.” She pointed at the couple that was about to exchange their vows. “I only hope I don’t mess it up first.”

Emma was in a groove. She bounced from vendor to vendor and then to the DJ, who had set up in the space next to a band they hadn’t known was coming until Keira found out from the bride’s sister an hour before the ceremony. Indy appeared to be flirting with the female bartender Keira had found. But they were both mixing and prepping, so she didn’t have a problem with it as long as the work got done. The male bartender Keira had hired hadn’t sho
wn up. Emma was going to call Keira to let her know, but Indy assured her that the two of them could do it without him just fine. She saved her girlfriend the worry.

“Hey, babe,” she greeted Keira on the phone after seeing to the cakes.

“Hey, the ceremony is over. They’re doing pictures at the church now, but the guests are going to be there in about twenty. Is everything ready?”

“Yeah, we’re good over here. How are you?” Emma nodded at Indy, who gave her the thumbs up.

She passed Tracy and Kevin, who were working on getting the buffet line ready along with the sous-chef Katie had loaned Keira for the day. Everything seemed good to go there.

  “I love you.”

Emma stopped walking toward the door of the venue.

“That doesn’t answer my question.” Emma moved to push open the wide double doors for when the guests began showing up.

  “It does, actually.”

When the doors opened, Emma saw Keira standing there, holding her phone to her ear.

“What are you doing here?” She dropped her own phone from her ear and placed it in the pocket of her borrowed black slacks.

“Hillary stayed with them for the pictures. I came over here to check on everything.”

“Well, everything is fine. We’re ready for the onslaught of hungry and thirsty guests.”

“I love you,” Keira repeated and moved to stand in front of her in the open doorway.

“You said that already. What’s going on with you?” Emma smiled and offered a little laugh.

“I just want to make sure you know that.”

“I do.” Emma took one of her hands, pulling her into the building. “And I love you too. You’re extra sappy today,” she teased as they made their way inside.

“I guess I’m just a sucker for weddings,” Keira revealed. “Hey.” She pulled Emma back to her. “When do you leave for LA?”

  “Monday night. Why?”

“What if I came with you?” Keira offered.

“You want to come to LA with me?”

“My parents are down there. I’m due a visit. I could hang out with them and try to figure out the whole job thing while you do what you need to do.”

“Your parents, huh?” Emma’s eyes grew concerned.

“I don’t have to tell them you’re there with me.”

“What? No, that’s not what I meant.” She placed a hand on Keira’s cheek. “I just get nervous around parents. I guess I was assuming you’d want me to meet them, which you might not, so–”

“Actually, I would. If you’re up for it, maybe we could do dinner or something.”

“I can do that. I just might return to the Emma you first met; the bumbling idiot.”

“You were never an idiot.” Keira laughed. “And I liked you like that. I thought it was adorable, remember?”

“I’m in, but you need to prep me on what your parents are like so I know what to expect.”

“Deal.” Keira gave Emma a quick peck on the lips.

“This may be the wrong time to mention this, but how do you plan on paying for your flight?”

“Oh, my parents have been begging me to come for a visit. My dad offered to pay for a flight down there for me.”

“Will you let me take care of it instead?”

“Emma, he can totally do it. It’s not that expensive to fly from here to LAX, and–”

“I know that, but I actually have miles I can use. I got a bunch when I was flying around a lot for my last job. I still have some left. I’d like to do this for you.” She waited nervously for a response.

“Okay,” Keira gave in. “Now, the hard part starts. What do I need to know about?” She took a look around the space.

  “Nothing,” Emma replied.

  “Nothing?” Keira questioned.

“Nothing,” she repeated. “Indy’s set at the bar, the DJ is ready to play, and so is the band. But I’m guessing they’ll just be playing a lot of White Stripes or The Black Keys.” She laughed at her own joke. “The food is all set. We’re just waiting for the guests to get here. Both cakes are ready on the tables. I’ve already enlisted Tracy to help me cut it when the time comes.”

“You’re cutting the cake?” Keira lifted an eyebrow.

“I’ve been to a lot of weddings recently. I know how this works. The bride and groom both cut their pieces, do that lame smash the cake in each other’s face thing, and then a lowly party worker actually cuts the rest of the cake for the guests.” She pointed at herself. “I am that lowly party worker. Tracy is my assistant.”

  “Lame, huh?” Keira asked.

  “What?”

“The cake smash thing. You think it’s lame?”

Emma stared at Keira and then looked around the room for a moment.

“I think there are certain wedding traditions that I wouldn’t want at my own wedding.”

Keira smiled at her, and Emma knew then that she’d answered that somewhat obvious test question correctly.

“I guess I can agree with that.”

“For example, I’m not doing that whole garter belt thing on a dance floor surrounded by everyone I know.” Emma leaned in. “I would consider doing it privately with my wife after the ceremony in a fancy honeymoon suite though.”

Keira’s eyes lit up at the whispered implication. Emma watched her throat move as she swallowed hard.

“Good to know.” Keira took a step back. “I should get to work. The guests will be here soon.”

“I’ll save you a piece of cake.” Emma winked at her.

“Okay. Great.” Keira turned and walked off while Emma laughed silently.

  ◆◆◆

“I don’t think I’ve worked that hard in years,” Hillary offered the group as they all sat at a large round table with a now dirty white tablecloth bunched up in the middle of it.

“I do this every night, but I can see how it’s hard to people who aren’t used to it.” Indy topped off Hillary’s wine.

“Bragger,” Greene accused. “I had fun.”

“That’s because you just had to play the violin for a few minutes during the ceremony,” Kevin stated. “The rest of us actually had to work today.”

“Hey, I helped the DJ,” Greene pointed out.

“You stood next to the DJ, and then behind her while you looked over her shoulder,” Tracy shared. “And did I see you exchanging phone numbers?”

“Greene,” Keira exclaimed and took a sip of her own wine.

“She wasn’t a guest. She was an employee, and one you weren’t in charge of. We’re going for drinks next week,” Greene answered.

Keira sat next to Emma, who had her arm around Keira’s back over her chair. Her friends were gathered around the table, laughing and relaying stories of their parts in today’s event. The guests had all departed, leaving them alone in the now vacant hall. It was going on three in the morning. The reception had gone well thanks to her friends. Keira was counting the minutes until the bank opened so she could deposit the check into her account. Her fee would be enough to help her make rent next month, and that was about it.

“Can I just say thank you so much?” Keira asked. “You guys saved my life today. I’ll never be able to repay you.”

“Key, you don’t have to repay us,” Kevin stated. “I actually had fun today.”

“Me too. I also now know that I never want to be a cater waiter in my life.” Tracy placed a hand on Kevin’s knee. “But I do have to work tomorrow, so we should go.”

“Me too,” Kevin shared. “Tracy’s place is closer. We’ll stay there tonight.”

“Unfortunately, I have to go too,” Greene stood. “I have a lesson to give in a few hours. That should be interesting.”

“And I have an early class. I’m out too.” Hillary stood.

“I’ll see you at the office tomorrow?” Joanna stood and asked Emma.

“Actually, I’m working from home tomorrow,” Emma offered.

  “You are?” Keira turned
to her.

“I am. I need to focus on some stuff before I leave tomorrow night.”

“Well, I’ll see you when you get back then.” Joanna waved.

“I’ll walk out with you,” Greene told her.

Hillary waved at them and followed close behind.

“I had a blast.” Mason stood and gripped the nearly empty bottle of wine with his hand. “And I’m taking the train, so I’m going to finish this on my way there.” He lifted the bottle in a salute and headed out with the rest of the group.

“I got your ticket for tomorrow night, by the way. I was able to get us on the same flight tomorrow, but not on the flight back. The plane was booked. I got you on the next flight out there, and it’s only forty-five minutes later. I figured I’d just wait for you at the airport and–”

“What? When did you do all that?” Keira asked when they were alone.

“While we were working,” Emma explained.

  “How?”

“There’s an app for that, Key.” Emma laughed. “Come on. You’re exhausted. Are we done here? I want to get you home.” She stood.

“Yeah, we’re done.” She stood and allowed Emma to help her out the door by wrapping an arm around her waist.

“Are you sure you’re okay to go to LA? Do you have work you–”

“No, I don’t have anything else coming up. I figured I’ll hang out with my parents and look for jobs online while you’re working. Then, we can do dinner with them one night and dinner just you and me the other.”

“You’ve put some thought into this.” Emma pushed open the door. “I’m driving. You look like you’ll fall asleep at the wheel.” Emma reached into Keira’s purse and felt around for the keys.

“Not a problem,” Keira agreed. “And I haven’t put a lot of thought into it. It’s just a three-day trip. Pretty easy to plan it.”

“How far are you parents from my hotel?”

“In LA time? Probably about an hour.”

“You’re staying with me though, right?”

“Of course.” Keira turned to her as Emma opened Keira’s passenger side door for her. “They’ll understand.” She slid into the seat and waited for Emma to get in before finishing her thought. “I’ll have my dad come and pick me up after you go to the conference on Tuesday. He’s retired and has tons of time. You can just come to their place when you’re done with work.”
