  Acknowledgements
/>   Many people helped with this book and my fulsome thanks go out to them all. First and foremost is Klaus Heymann who was, inevitably, the primary source for so much detailed information. His reputation for an unbelievably rapid response to email queries was more than validated through this process of researching, writing and checking. His accurate recall of facts and figures was almost equally unbelievable; fortunately I think he also enjoyed the opportunity to reflect on the past twenty-five years, since he is, by nature, the kind of man who rarely looks in the rear-view mirror.

Secondly, thanks to my editor Genevieve Helsby, who had the challenging task of working through my sometimes artistic (sketchy) grasp of grammar and occasionally wayward accuracy. There were thousands of tiny points to confirm, to question, to change, which she did not only with unfailing patience and diligence, but also while simultaneously running her busy Naxos editorial department.

The book had its beginnings in many discussions with David Patmore, the record historian and Naxos writer, who helped considerably in its emerging shape, particularly with regard to the history of the classical record industry which he knows so well. I am also grateful for interest expressed by David Shelley – deputy publisher of Little, Brown UK – in the history of Naxos, and his offer to publish this book.

All the Naxos contributors mentioned in these pages also responded generously with their time and knowledge. Performers, administrators, salesmen, editors, publicists, producers, engineers from Hong Kong to Sweden, from Korea to the US, from Australia to Hungary – they all rose to the challenge of answering many and sometimes odd questions, having little idea what would happen to the answers. Of course, having been part of Naxos for nearly two decades myself, I knew many of these people already, and had visited a lot of them in their offices or seen quite a few in concert! But contact over the book showed again what a remarkable group of highly capable people they are – passionate about their work and committed to the label. In the end, it is the contribution of individuals, starting with Klaus Heymann, that has made Naxos. After twenty-five years, it is very far from being a corporate entity!
