Megan returned with two more glasses and another bottle of wine. After handing both of them a glass of wine, she returned to her seat.

“We wanted to thank you for your assistance, Megan,” Barbara said.

“I’m not sure you should encourage her,” Erica said. “But I will agree that she was helpful.”

“I hear congratulations are in order?” Barbara said to Lauren.

  Lauren smiled. “Perhaps, all around?”

Matthias chuckled. “Another sleuth in the family?”

Caitlyn looked confused and turned to Megan. Megan pointed at her own ring finger and nodded at the mayor with a smile.

“Oh! That’s a nice ring Mayor Vance, er… Mayor Reynolds?” Caitlyn said.

“Thank you. I believe Mayor Reynolds has a nice ring to it,” Barbara laughed.

  Megan’s Recipes

  Fruit Cocktail Cake

  1/2 cup shortening

  2 cups sugar

  3 cups flour

  2 teaspoons baking soda

  2 eggs

  1 can fruit cocktail

  1/2 can fruit cocktail juice

Mix all ingredients. Bake in 13x9 greased pan at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes. For topping, sprinkle 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup chopped nuts on top first before baking. Or, after cooling cover cake with whipped topping from a tub.

  Rhubarb Custard Pie

  4 eggs

  1 3/4 to 2 cups sugar

  4 tablespoons flour

  2 cups milk

  4 tablespoons margarine, melted

  1 unbaked pie shell

1 generous cup diced fresh rhubarb or sliced peaches

  2 teaspoons vanilla

  Cinnamon

For this recipe, use a large, deep dish pie pan and line it with one unbaked pie shell. Megan rolls the crust a little thicker for custard pies. Place eggs, sugar, flour, milk, and melted margarine in a blender and blend until smooth. Place fruit in unbaked pie shell and sprinkle with vanilla. Pour the blender mix over the fruit and sprinkle with cinnamon. Bake 350 degrees for about one hour. Let cool. The custard will continue to set as it cools. Refrigerate when fully cool. If using peaches from a can, drain before adding to the unbaked pie shell.

  Lemonade

  1 cup lemon juice

  1 cup sugar

  6 cups water

Lemon juice is sold in bottles, usually in the juice aisle but may also be found in the refrigerator section. Squeezed juice from fresh lemons could also be used. Add all ingredients to a large pitcher and stir. Add sliced lemons, if desired.
