Conni's husband Ray took to Dax immediately, and the two of them spent a lot of time together. When it was time to go back to Florida, they all promised to be there for the wedding in February.
Christmas was a huge family affair at the Daring household, with Uncle Tom and Aunt Jo and their family joining them. Angela fit right in with the rest of them, and when it came time for the big Euchre game after dinner and gifts, she was in the thick of it.
Finally, it was February, and the time had come for Angela and Dax to pledge their vows to each other.
They had their beautiful beach wedding on St. Valentine's Day as they had talked about. It had all come together quite easily with everyone pitching in to help. Angela's family as well as Annie's had made the trip south for the big event.
It was a beautiful day, and everyone could see how happy and in love the couple was. They had chosen St. Augustine Beach for the ceremony. The sun was shining brightly, and even though the air was slightly chilly, they couldn't have asked for a nicer day. Angela wore a knee-length white dress, a simple sheath style with a cowl neck, and Dax was decked out in khaki slacks and a white shirt. Conni and Annie both wore pale blue dresses as they stood up with Annie, while Dax and Ray were dressed like Dane, only with pale blue shirts.
When they had been pronounced husband and wife and had shared that traditional first kiss, Dax took her hand and they ran into the ocean, braving the icy water for another kiss while their family and friends cheered them on.
After that, they went to a nice, upscale restaurant in the historic district for a reception dinner. In attendance, were their families and Annie's family; even Ray's family had made the trip down. Coworkers from the construction company and the law office were also there.
And finally, it was time for their honeymoon trip. They had decided to travel up to Georgia for a week at one of the romantic spots there, the Chateau Elan.
It was a perfect week.
"Are you happy, Mrs. Daring?" Dax asked as he handed her a glass of wine.
"I am ecstatic, Mr. Daring. The wedding was gorgeous. This week has been relaxing and romantic. And tomorrow, we are going home to our new house. What more could I ask for?"
"Oh, I don't know, see what you can come up with," he teased.
Angela thought for a moment. Then, she set down her glass and put her hand in his. "I think, Sir, I would like to have a spanking before we go home to start our new life together."
Epilogue
Five years had passed since the Daring Doms had worked out both of their relationship problems and had become happily married men.
Annie and Dane were able to take that second honeymoon they'd saved for and just in the nick of time, too. After a lovely, relaxing cruise, Annie discovered that she was pregnant. Eight months later, she delivered a healthy baby boy. They named him Drew, and he was the light of their lives.
Not long after that, they dipped into their savings again. The mechanic shop that Dane managed had come up for sale, and after much discussion, he and Annie decided to buy it. Annie was ready to leave her job and wanted very much to stay at home with baby Drew. By helping Dane with the business, keeping the books and working from home, she could accomplish that as well as save some money by not having to hire someone else to do the job. Ted and Uncle Tom had each chipped in, and they were silent partners in the business.
There were very few arguments in the Daring household, and Sunday night maintenance had proven to be a success. Annie and Dane were more in love than ever.
They were already talking about when would be the best time to give Drew a baby brother or sister.
As for Dax and Angela, well, their life was better than either of them had imagined it could be. Dax was still working for the construction company, having been promoted to Vice-President, and Angela had remained at the law office.
They had enjoyed decorating their brand-new house together. Unlike Dane and Annie, who had bought a remodeled older home, they'd opted for the company Dax worked for to build their dream house. They returned to their romantic spot in Georgia every year for their anniversary and had just recently begun talking about starting a family.
One Saturday night, they were all gathered at Brenn and Ted's for dinner and a game of cards.
"Do you remember when I asked you where you saw yourself in five years, little brother?" Dane asked during the course of conversation.
"Yes, now that you mention it, I do," Dax replied, squeezing Angela's hand. "I'm happy to say that I'm right where I want to be. I may not have been ready to admit it five years ago, but marrying my beautiful baby girl was the best decision of my life."
"Mushy," Ted said with a laugh.
"Too much information," Uncle Tom threw in.
"Sweet," Aunt Jo and Brenn both said at the same time.
"Right," Annie added then went on to explain, "It's right. You two were made for each other. It just took a lot of things happening to make you both see it."
"Well, the two of you had some things to work out, too, if I remember," Dax said.
Dane looked at his wife and grinned. "But once we worked them out, there was no going back."
Annie and Angela went to the kitchen to bring out the snacks for the card game.
"Any regrets?" Annie asked.
"None. I should have trusted Dax more from the start. What about you?"
"I may have moved here for Russ, but what I've found with Dane is the real thing. Russ was the stepping stone to getting me where I needed to be. Oh, I hear Drew. I'll help you carry these in, then I'll go to him."
When they reached the others, however, Dane had already gotten his son up from his nap.
"Honey, do you want me to take him so you can play the first game?" Annie asked.
"Nope, my boy and I can handle these characters in a simple game of Euchre, can't we, Drew? He's been changed, and I'll just get his bottle. We'll be fine. You enjoy your girl talk."
And so, it was a Saturday night with the family, like so many others. The women were talking and playing cards at one table, the men at the other. And none of them would want to be anywhere but where they were at that moment.
