Crashing Heat Page 26

by Richard Castle

  “Dude ranch in New Mexico?”

He scrunched one eye in temptation, but shook his head. “Nope.”

She arched one brow, giving him a seductive smile. “Reykjavík.”

  A statement, not a question.

He melted before her eyes. Or maybe it was her melting before him. He loosened the black bow tie around his neck. He really was ruggedly handsome, and God, he wore a tuxedo well.

She crooked her finger, beckoning him to her...tempting him...but staying just out of reach.

Rook followed her like Odysseus, who, tempted beyond reason, was seduced by Circe. “Are you toying with me, Captain?”

Nikki wagged her finger at him. “Jamie, oh, Jamie. You know me better than that, don’t you? I don’t play games.”

“Au contraire, my fair lady. There are games you play quite well.”

She smiled, knowing just where he was going with this. “Do I?” she asked coyly as she hailed a cab to take them home.

He nodded sagely. “Games in the dark, Nikki Heat. With those, I must say, you are quite adept.”
