“Seriously, Serena, you’re ruining it for us. Dance,” says Remi, as she turns to me.

I slowly start to sway my hips back and forth to the rhythm of the music. I usually love to dance but tonight, here in front of all these people, it just feels dirty. I close my eyes hoping to lose myself in the music and forget I’m here when suddenly our cage is pulled back behind the curtain.

“It’s your lucky day, ladies. Record timing, you only lasted three minutes out there. Lex and Remi, you two are together as always, six thousand split in half, minus the house commissions of course. And new girl, Selena, is it?” asks the man who was MC on stage.

  “Serena,” I answer.

“Yeah, well you made quite an impression… five thousand just for you, that’s already excluding commission.”

“Must be beginners’ luck,” sneers Lex.

“Five thousand, for what?” I shout, but he ignores me.

“Luke, it looks like Cruz didn’t give this one orientation,” sneers Remi.

“Ugh, I hate when he does that, then I have to waste my time explaining everything. Well, you two better get going, this one doesn’t like to be kept waiting. Room 5,” says this guy they call Luke, handing them a key card.

“Good luck, new girl,” says Remi as she and her sister walk away leaving me alone with Luke.

“Well, new girl, looks like you’re coming with me.”

We step into a brightly lit hallway and I can finally see Luke clearly. He has shaggy dark hair and piercing green eyes hidden behind dark smudged liner. His bottom lip and right eyebrow are both pierced, and a small diamond stud fits perfectly in one ear. He looks like a modern-day pirate dressed in a black V-neck shirt and black leather pants.

“Look, there’s been a misunderstanding, I’m not really supposed to be here, I actually...”

“Oh, don’t worry love, he only paid for a little fun, some sweet pecking, minor petting but nothing else.” He says with a wink. “He can’t touch you in any other way. He didn’t pay for that, well unless he wants to upgrade, then you’re looking at least two-grand extra.”

  “No, I…”

“You’re in here, Room 2. He’s a bit of an addict, but easy on the eyes so there’s that. Don’t worry, I’ll be right out here if you need me,” he says, sliding the key card in the slot, opening the door, and pushing me inside. I nearly stumble as the door shuts and locks behind me. I can hear loud breathing coming from behind me, but I’m terrified to turn around.

“My, you are even more beautiful up close,” he says, and I instantly recognize his voice. I slowly turn and find Professor Macallan standing behind me. “Who would have thought I’d find you here? I guess a girl from the wrong side of town always gets caught up in places like this. Tell me, is this your first night? You looked pretty frightened out there.”

“You, you paid for me?” I say, stuttering slightly.

“Just for the company, and whatever else you’d like to give.”

  “I… this… how?”

He laughs slightly as he approaches me. He looks different, dressed in dark pants and a white buttoned shirt with the sleeves rolled up, his glasses are gone, and I can see his eyes are a light hazel brown. Not like the same man I see in class every morning. The way he’s staring at my body sends a shiver of fear through me. He gets closer to me as I back away until my back hits the cold metal door behind me. He has the look of a predator going after his prey and it horrifies me.

“You can’t do this, I’m your,” I say, but he shuts me up with a demanding kiss. I squirm and try to wiggle out of his grasp, but his lips are tightly pressed against mine. I taste something spicy, minty almost, and bite down on his lip hoping he’ll release me. He groans and pulls away.

“You bit me,” he says, wiping the blood with his finger then bringing it to his mouth to suck on. “You’re kinky, I like it.”

“Let me go!” I shout, trying to push him away, but my arms and legs suddenly feel weak. I look up at him, but my vision is slightly blurred. “What did you do to me?” I say as I sway in his arms.

“Just a little something to lighten the mood, make you more agreeable and get the real fun started,” he says, lifting me up and carrying me over to the couch setting me down on him so I’m straddling his thighs. He caresses my arms and back, running his hands all over my body and it feels amazing.

“That feels so good,” I whisper against his lips. Why am I enjoying this? I try to push him away, but I can’t fight this feeling. “Don’t stop,” I moan breathlessly, throwing my head back as he moans into my neck.

  “Oh, I don’t intend to.”

What feels like hours, but I’m sure is merely minutes, go by as Macallan continues kissing me deeply and caressing my body. I can feel him growing beneath me, and instead of terrifying me as it was moments ago, it’s exhilarating. I start to grind and rub against him as he moans into my mouth, when suddenly I hear loud shouting coming from outside the door as it’s kicked open with a loud bang.

  THIRTY–ONE

  SCARLETT

“Get your fucking hands off her!” shouts a deep voice as a dark shadow steps inside. He is fuming, his expression blurred but I can sense he’s filled with rage as his hands sit fisted tightly at his sides.

“Ace,” I say as I fall back onto the couch.

“What the fuck did you do to her, Macallan?” shouts Ace, rushing toward us.

“Just a little Devil’s Kiss to get her in the mood,” says Macallan, mockingly.

“You’re done, Macallan, I swear if you set foot in here again.”

“Oh, quit it, Ace, you know you have no control over that. He was right. This was a test and you failed. This girl is going to be a problem for you. Besides, you can have your little girlfriend back, I’m done with her. I got what I paid for.”

“You son of a bitch,” Ace yells, launching at him, but he’s instantly pulled back by two guards.

“You watch yourself, kid, you have no power around here, not yet anyway. You still have a lot to learn. You need to keep this girl on a shorter leash, or we’ll have to fix her for you. See you two in class on Monday,” he says as he walks out the door.

My head is spinning as I fall back on the couch beside me. A fire coursing within me, flowing in my veins and heating everything within me.

“Eternally the menacing little angel aren’t you, Red?” Ace says as he approaches me.

“Ace,” I moan as he reaches down and sits beside me, placing a calloused hand on my thigh and it’s exhilarating.

He chuckles lightly but I hear it.

“Move it higher, Ace. It feels so good.”

He listens to my command and moves his hand slowly up my thigh. I turn my body toward him, throwing my legs over his and straddling him. He stiffens beneath me as I wrap my arms around his neck. I grind into him and feel him hardening beneath me, so I increase my pace.

“Ace, fuck, touch me. I need you to touch me,” I moan louder.

“Fuck, Red, I shouldn’t take advantage of you like this but fuck if you make it hard.”

  “Please, Ace, I need…”

“I know what you need,” he grabs me and flips me, my back now flat against the couch, his body hovering over me. He lowers his lips to mine and whispers softly against them.

“This is just about you, baby, you need release.” He slips his hand down my stomach to my waist until he finds my hot wet center underneath my bodysuit. “Red,” he grunts, as he slips the material to the side and his fingers slide across my hot wetness. “You feel so good, so hot, and wet. So greedy and ready.”

  “Ace, please.”

“Slowly, my angel, all in good time. I’m nowhere near done with you.” He slicks his finger back and forth along my folds and then sticks one into me.

“Ahh,” I moan, curving my back off the couch.

“Such a sweet sound, baby.” He continues to move in and out of me inserting another finger as he moves th
e top of my suit to the side and teases my nipple with the other. My sex is gripping around his finger as my hips sway to meet his hand. He knows I’m close as his pace quickens.

  “Ace, I…”

“Let go baby, let go for me.”

“Ahh,” I moan as I reach my climax and explode around his fingers.

“So beautiful,” he says, coming back up and kissing me, taking me in for another mind- numbing kiss. I can’t believe I orgasmed so quickly with just the touch of his fingers inside me.

“Now, now, beautiful, I’m here. You’re safe.”

I can’t help but chuckle lightly at his assurance. “Safe,” I mutter against his lips. “There’s no such thing. Saved from one devil only to be claimed by another.” His body stiffens beside me and I think I’ve struck a nerve.

“Not tonight, Red. Tonight I’m the good guy, your guardian angel.”

“No such thing,” I mutter breathlessly before my eyes betray me and close shut. My body feels like gelatin as I sense Ace picking me up. He mumbles something to whoever is beside us as he carries me out of the room. I manage to muster what little strength I have left and wrap my arms around his neck, while he keeps his hands under my ass and on my back as we step through the hallway I was brought in through.

“Hey man, where are you taking her? She’s not done for tonight,” says Luke as we pass him. I open my eyes and see he’s standing with two men who are dressed all in black. They look like bodyguards but I’m guessing they’re the club’s security.

“Move out of my way, Prescott,” snarls Ace.

“I can’t do that, Servite. Nothing personal, but she doesn’t belong to you.”

“Fuck that, of course she belongs to me, and I swear you better get the fuck out of my way or you’ll regret it.”

“The boss won’t be pleased. She was with one of his most valued clients,” he answers.

“Mind your words, Prescott, you forget who you’re talking to. And you tell your boss that his valued client just drugged up my girl. A girl who doesn’t fucking work here, so you bet your ass that someone better tell me why the fuck she was in a cage tonight.”

“My apologies, sir, I will question Lacey and Cruz immediately.”

“Now get the fuck out of my way and give these to Ivan. Tell him to bring my car around to the northeast exit, we’re not going through the front.” He continues walking and heads through a back corridor which I assume leads to the exit he mentioned to Luke.

“Ace, what’s wrong with me?” I ask into his neck.

“Nothing, baby, you’re going to be okay. I’ve got you now.”

“Ahh,” I groan as my head falls back, a piercing ache hits my temples.

“Shh, I’m here now, baby. Red, why did you come here?” he says, his voice deep and raspy, making the hairs on my neck stand up.

“I wanted to know why you were being such an asshole and so secretive.”

“Yeah, well now you know my dirty little secret.”

  “Ace, my head, it’s pounding.”

“Just close your eyes, baby. Soon everything will be okay.”

And my body and mind succumb to his command as I lose all consciousness.

  THIRTY–TWO

  ACE

That son of a bitch. How dare he put his hands on what is mine? I swear if I ever get the chance to get Macallan alone in a room, I will end him. He put his filthy hands on my girl. He laid his poisoned lips against her lips, on her body. My body. It infuriates me just thinking about what I saw when I barged into the room. She was straddling him, her hot cunt grinding against his dick. I saw red, rage flowing through me, and knew that I had to get him the fuck away from her. I had to get her off of him.

He drugged her, of course he fucking drugged her. Why else would she be willingly surrendering herself to him? At first, I was angry at her for allowing him to touch her that way, to touch what she often says isn’t mine. I wanted to swing her over my shoulder and show her just how much her body, her mouth, and that tight, pink, and plump little cunt belongs to me. But then I saw it. Her head fell back, and her body grew limp against his. I knew then she wasn’t doing it out of her own free will. And as many times as I tempted her, kissed her, and made her want me, I never forced her to do anything she didn’t want.

My mind is confused, full of unanswered questions. Who knows what would have happened if I hadn’t walked in when I did? How far he would have taken it, what he would have done to her if I had gotten there too late. How did she get in? If she followed me here, then why? And how the fuck did I not notice she followed me?

I step out onto the balcony of my beach house, staring at the water before me. It’s peaceful out there among the vast waters and gentle waves. The ocean limitless and seemingly endless, the outside world beyond the horizon oblivious to our world and all its glorious, fucked up issues. It fools us into believing we can escape our reality. Making us believe we could flee this world we live in, our personal hell. But it’s all just an illusion. We can’t escape, I can’t. I must remember my place in all of this, I was born to wash away the sins of those who poison the world we live in. I was bred to rid our town of the evil that threatens to consume it. To cleanse our empire from sinful forces on the outside who want to control it, or worse destroy it. I repeat the mantra constantly, hoping I won’t forget its value.

But why had I not realized before that those who turned me into this fiend, into what I am, are the ones that need to be destroyed. I was made into a weapon to use against his enemies. He created the warrior he so desperately needed. And he knows I’ll never turn on him. Before it was because I looked up to him, I wanted to be like him. I blindly obeyed his orders, no questions asked. I was foolish to think he was all-knowing. But now he knows for sure that I’ll never betray him. That I’ll never try to overthrow him, to bring him down. He knows this because of the beautiful, angelic, goddess lying asleep in my bed. Her beauty is beyond compare. I have no words to describe what it is she stirs inside me. But it’s a dangerous thing for her to know everything. If anything were to happen to her it would destroy me. And he’s counting on that.

  SCARLETT

My body aches vigorously. I’m drenched in a cold sweat, chills running across my entire body. My mouth is dry, my tongue is numb. God, I feel like I’m dying a slow and painful death. I try and open my tired eyes, but find they’re nearly glued together by a crusty discharge. I must have been dead asleep for that to happen. I finally manage to pry them open, but the light of the room blinds me.

“Ahh,” I groan, grabbing my head as a piercing ache runs through it.

“Morning, angel,” says Ace as he slowly approaches the bed.

I open my eyes to look at him and fuck if it isn’t the perfect sight to see first thing in the morning. He’s shirtless, his body a perfectly chiseled work of art, with tattoos wrapping around almost every inch of exposed skin. The perfect fantasy come to life. I sit up quickly and notice I’m not in my bedroom. But this also isn’t his bedroom, the one we slept together in back at Servite Manor. I turn and look out the floor length window and see a beautiful panoramic view of the ocean. The beach house. We must be in his room at the beach house. I turn back to him, his eyes gazing intently at me.

“Morning,” I answer slowly. Not having the energy to say anything else.

“Wow, no what the hell am I doing here, Ace? Or why the fuck am I in your bed, Ace?” he mocks with a sly smirk.

“What the hell happened to me last night, Ace?”

“There she is,” he says as he sits beside me on the bed, the mattress shifting as his body settles alongside mine.

“I’m serious, Ace, I don’t… it’s all fuzzy, and my head is killing me.”

“Let’s just say you took something you shouldn’t have.”

I turn to him suspiciously and then it hits me. The events of last night come rushing back to me. The Gallows, the cages, the private room, and the sick son of a bitch who paid
for my company. It all comes flooding back. At least prior to Ace’s arrival.

“Macallan,” I whisper, bile rising in my throat.

“That son of a bitch,” he says, shaking his head, his hands fisting on the bed as he grips on tightly to the comforter.

“I need to go, I need to get out of here,” I say, trying to stand up, but failing miserably. My head’s still spinning, my vision still slightly blurred.

“Slow down now, Red, where are you going?”

“I need to report him, I need to talk to the headmaster, to your father.”

“That won’t do you any good,” he says.

“Excuse me?” I shout back at him.

“Macallan is the academy’s most prestigious professor, besides that, he’s best friends with my uncle, which means he is untouchable. Think of it as a form of diplomatic immunity.”

“That’s bullshit, he assaulted me, drugged me, not to mention tried to buy me for five thousand dollars!”

He raises a brow at me. “You’re worth much more.”

And somehow that stupid comment makes something inside of me flutter. I need to murder those damn butterflies.

“They’ll see it as you broke the law and went to go work at The Gallows. You should not have been there. You shouldn’t even know of its existence. By the way, how did you find it?”

I glare at him furiously, rolling my eyes.

“Never mind that, either way it won’t end well for you.”

“Is that a threat?” I ask furiously.

“It’s a fact, babe. Money buys silence in a place like Hillcrest Hills. The Gallows assures secrecy, privacy, and exclusivity. The top elite of this town, hell of the country, pay a decent amount in membership fees to keep their identities confidential. If you were to jeopardize that, well even I wouldn’t be able to protect you. It’s best left alone. I saved you before he could really do any damage.”
