Sweet Love Page 30

by Lolah Lace

“How convenient.” I stood. I was over this.

“I know you don’t believe it but I’m proud of you too.”

I walked away from the table. I took long strides into I was outside the farmhouse. She was standing there, the warden.

“Did you get what you were looking for?”

“I believe so. The rest of the funds will be in your account by morning.”

  “Thank you, sir.”

I walked away from her and to Charlie. He opened my door and I got in the truck. If this was closure it didn’t feel like a good thing.

  Epilogue

  JAGGER

Forgiveness. That was something I couldn’t do. I wasn’t there yet. I didn’t wish death on my biological father. He was addicted and I was addicted. I could’ve been him. I could’ve found myself in a situation. I had people that were willing to lock me in a room, get me professional help and show me love. He didn’t have that. Maybe my mum would be alive if he did. It was easy to blame people for her death. It was hard to just accept things the way they were.

I didn’t know if having contact with Daniel Paul was the right thing to do. Forgiving my aunt was an easier task. Her actions weren’t intentional. She wanted to spare me this burden and after having my son I understand exactly why a parent or guardian would want to shelter a child from painful things.

After the tour was over Toxic Shock decided to do solo projects. I trusted all the band members and they knew about my son Nox. Katrina let me name our son Lennox Jayson Sweet Adkins. It was a mouthful but I was so pumped I wanted to give him six names. I didn’t have that same trust for anyone else in the music industry so Nox was still a secret to the masses. I wanted Nox to grow up normal. If he wanted to follow in my footsteps I wanted him to be old enough to make a proper decision.

I spent most of my time in Naperville trying to talk Katrina into having another baby. Nox needed a sibling. I think she thought I was going somewhere and she would be stuck with two kids. I loved her and I wasn’t going anywhere. I would marry her tomorrow but she wouldn’t even consider that option. I had forever to convince her otherwise.

It felt so unbelievable refreshing to stop living in the past and completely live in the present where I could prepare for a future with my family.
