Anything For Family Page 16

by Lola StVil

Wyatt takes Logan for a walk around the block to cool him off and also to make fun of him, I’m sure. In the meantime, I pull my wife into me and whisper, “It’s been too long since I’ve been inside you. Let’s fix that…”

She smiles and bites her lower lip. My cock twitches. Damn, here we go again.

So much has happened since I became a Hunter. For one thing, Roger was killed in prison. They suspect one of the people he was working for arranged his murder. Gage wasn’t surprised. He said they would consider Roger a loose end. I felt bad, but I knew that in the end, Roger was to blame for the predicament he got into, not me.

The other thing is that when he died, we weren’t divorced yet, so all the money came to me. I had over one hundred million dollars and property all around the world. Gage didn’t want any of it, and neither did I. In the end, we did what we thought was best. We set up scholarships for over two hundred kids in the USA. We adopted two villages in North Africa. And all the properties that belonged to Roger have been given away to various women’s shelters around the world.

Gage and I went through a rough spot where I felt bad that I couldn’t give him any kids. But then he pointed out that we had supported over one hundred and fifty kids around the world. I realized he was right. I had kids in my life, and they made it amazing. And the joy I felt when I would go see them was the same joy he felt. I didn’t feel empty anymore. Instead, I felt privileged to have a purpose and a means to provide help.

Also, Gage finally opened up a safety deposit box that his sister had left him—it contained one more treasure hunt. We followed it together, and in the end, it led to a playground in midtown. When I asked what was special about the place, he told me it was her first school and the first place she was bullied. He saw the kid who pushed her. Gage ran after him and made him say sorry.

She said that whenever he was missing her, he was to go to the playground so he could stand on the same spot she was on when she learned her brother had her back. It meant the world to him. I gave him a watch for our wedding. So after he got that note from Rose, I took the watch and got the coordinates engraved on it. So now he can take her everywhere with him.

Gage led an op that ended up getting some guy caught—some guy they were looking for for the last ten years! He got a major promotion. But that also means he’s out of the country—a lot. It was hard to get used to at first. I missed him like crazy. His mom and I hung out all the time and planned events around the city, but I was really lonely. Then one night, I think he could hear just how much I was missing him. He sent a woman to my door.

“Can I help you?” I asked.

“Hi, my name is Marsh Wells. I’m a pilot,” she said.

  “You’re a pilot?”

“No, Mrs. Hunter, I’m your pilot. Your husband bought you a jet. And when time permits, I’m to come and get you and bring you to where he is. That is if that’s okay with you.”

It was the best one-year anniversary gift ever! I also got a gift from Mr. Hunter, Gage’s dad.

“Rose left this for me to give to the first woman who married into the family. And that’s you. She didn’t tell me what was in the note and I didn’t ask. But she told me to have you read the note and keep the contents of this box.” I thanked him and opened the letter.

  To: The new Mrs. Hunter,

I’m sorry I won’t get a chance to see your face or the light you bring into my brother’s eyes. But if he has chosen you, I know that you are good and kind. I also know that you must be a strong woman to deal with him.

I’m going away soon. I’d like to think that my family will be looked after. I know the boys will look after our parents. But who will look after them? They act big and bad, but they have hearts—big ones. And it hurts me to know that I won’t be here to look out for them. That is why I’m asking you to do it for me.

Don’t let them love without making sure she’s worthy. And don’t let them jump without making sure they have a place to land. I’m leaving you the items in the box so that you can keep an eye on them—whether they want you to or not. They’ll hate you for it sometimes or act like they do. They did that to me. But it’s just an act. They need someone to watch out for them, and Mom can’t do it all on her own.

So, dear sister-in-law, I leave you with my heart: Gage, Cash, Jackson, Logan, and Wyatt.

  Protect at all costs.

  Your friend,

  Rose Hunter

I looked in the box, and inside I found five sets of house keys…
