"Neither did I. I promised to love you for the rest of my life and I will do it."
For the first time since we met, I made a promise I knew I would never break. Because it was finally time to keep my word and be the man she needed me to be, for her and for the baby growing under her heart.
She was more than the light that made my whole world brighter. She was my heart that I couldn't live without; my soulmate and my hope – a hope for the future that I could have never imagined without her.
"There are only two times that I want to share with you, Rhea: now and forever…"
EPILOGUE
Two years later
"Shut up everyone!" Kameron stood up and adjusted his tux. "First of all, I'd like to thank you guys for coming to celebrate my birthday with me. I wanted to spend it with my wife and my daughter, but you just wouldn't leave us alone." Everyone laughed. "So thank you for that. Second, I want to say that I have the best friends in the whole world. Liam, Stanley and Jeffrey – you are my favorite wise-ass band on the planet. I feel truly blessed to have you in my life, to share the best and worst of it with you, knowing that you will be there for me, no matter what. You are my family, my big, crazy family. But I wouldn't want to have a different one. I love you guys. Not as much as your wives do, of course. But still… You are the brothers I always wanted to have."
"To us!" Liam said and everyone cheered.
"And to the women who willingly agreed to stand all of your shit for the rest of your lives," Crystal added.
"Watch your language, girl!" Elizabeth said. "Kids can hear you."
I looked at the precious little cuddle sleeping in my wife's arms. Our son Callan got his mother's eyes and my smile. Rhea once said he would become a heartbreaker. Though I promised I would teach him how not to repeat his father's mistakes and be a truly wonderful man.
"Just lo ok at us…" Liz said. "Who would have thought our stories would end up like this, right?" She looked at her husband and smiled lovingly at him.
"True," Stanley said as he wrapped one arm around his wife's shoulders. Ivy touched his face and kissed him. We all admired her ability to 'see' the world in full color, even though her eyes were never meant to see the sun again.
"True they say – you always gain by giving love," Crystal said. She put her head on Liam's shoulder and added, "I'm glad I let my love show me the right path to follow."
"And it led you straight to me," Liam responded.
Our stories were different. But all of them were filled with love and all the things that cannot be seen, or heard; the things that make you feel like you have wings on your back and can make any of your dreams come true. The things that are worth fighting for, falling many times and then rising every single time; moving forward and hope for the best, even when there's no light at the end of the tunnel.
Now I knew what made my life so complete. It wasn't money, or power that I used to put above the rest. It was the inner peace, followed by the understanding of happiness that filled every small part of me. I didn't know if I deserved it, considering the number of wrong choices I made. But one thing I knew for sure – I never wanted to be anywhere but here and now, with the woman who loved me despite my flaws; who carried her love for me through the time and never let it fade away…
